Is this really terrible as a days food?

I'm trying to lose weight, well I have lost 2.5st but have lost my focus. I kniw this set good for weight loss, but how about maintaining?

Breakfast - shake, with almond milk, protein powder, frozen banana abd strawberry.
Lunch - salad (massive 😉) of rocket, baby plum Tom's cucumber , yellow pepper, radish, 8 crabsticks, 1 boiled egg. Low fay mayo.

Snack apple

Dinner - chicken Kiev, small jacket spud, peas and sweetcorn. Tiny portion ofchocolatebriwnue abd ice cream (I kniw I shouldn't have and actually couldn't finish it 🤢)

I've had plenty of water to drink, and walked 13000 ish steps sp far (including an actual walk with the DC rather than just shuffling around the house and an hour in the garden)

I kniw the dinner wasn't ideal but I am desperately trying to a)budget and b) eat the same as the DC.

Excuse the typos, hope you get the idea.

Sounds like a good days food to me (also dieting!). Protein, carbs, veggies, fats etc all ticked off. Pudding not what you'd have every day but it's all about balance, you can't deny yourself everything forever 😊

Do you log your food? If you do it'll give you a good idea if it's a maintenance level of calories or not - for me that probably would be a maintenance level.

I don't at the moment, I struggling to get the focus back, just felt dreadful after the pudding then thought actually I dobt think it was too bad a day?

I will start logging again.

OP posts:
Bemyclementine · 01/08/2022 20:08

@JosephineGH yes?

Don't feel dreadful! A bit of chocolate brownie and some ice cream doesn't ruin your days eating at all. Having a pudding one night doesn't take away the fact you had a really good breakfast, lunch and tea. Lots of veggies and healthy bits! If you're looking to still lose some weight, get back into logging if you can - it's the only thing that helps me keep focus 😊 I wouldn't class your days food as a bad day at all - I'd class it as a good day with a tasty pudding! Demonising food and guilting yourself won't ever give you extra motivation imo, it'll just make you feel bad. I never give myself a bad time if I've had something a bit extra, tomorrow is a new day and putting in consistent effort over time will show results - one pudding isn't going to stop that 😊

I think a pudding now and again is fine isn't anything to beat yourself up over.

UnderCaffeinated · 01/08/2022 20:39

It's all about a calorie deficit, if all you ate was within a calorie deficit then you're all good even if that food wasn't great. I lost 3st and changed how I view food and that's what really helped. Rather than thinking of food as 'good' or 'bad' I just view it all as food and you can eat whatever you like within your calorie budget.

It gets a bit more complicated once you think more about what you 'spend' your calories on. I find if I have a good source of protein at each meal, I feel fuller so snack less and feel more satisfied. I love chicken Kievs and as part of a balanced meal, within your calories it isn't an issue. Neither is the ice cream as long as you are within your calories too!

I've always used this calculator to work out my calories and adjusted it for every 7lbs www.jamessmithacademy.com/macro-calculator/ It often seems like more calories than you're used to as we're told 1200-1400 for women, but at my height and weight I can eat more than that and have a sustainable weightloss, and one 'bad' day doesn't undo all your progress! Good luck OP, and don't beat yourself up.

WeAreTheHeroes · 01/08/2022 20:46

Why don't you log today's calories and start afresh tomorrow? As long as today is occasional rather than every day, it's fine.

takeitandleaveit · 01/08/2022 21:11

There are a few switches you could make there.

Breakfast, have bran flakes with the almond milk, and cut out the fruit. Eat the banana as a snack mid-morning instead.

Lunch, either have the crabsticks or the egg, not both.

Dinner, swap the peas and sweetcorn for broccoli and carrots.

Bemyclementine · 01/08/2022 21:37

Thank you all for replying. I was expecting a bit if a bashing

I kniw it wasn't great, but have such a skewed sense of "normal' that I thought I'd seek opinions.

I kniw the cal in/outstuff. I'm just so bored with planning my food. But having coasted for a few months, a few lbs gave crept back on.

I know I could have made "better choices" today buy as I saud, budget and what was I'm the freezer/fridge dictated what we had. I enjoyed the dinner though! Apart from the pudding which was too sickly.

What's wrong with both the egg and the crab sticks? Both are low calorie protein foods and will fill her up . Without protein her salad won't fill her up at all .

Disagree with this. Better to have the protein at lunch, and bran flakes are just processed crap that won't keep you full

Bemyclementine · 01/08/2022 21:55

I added a boiled egg as the crabsticks alone aren't very filling with just salad. They are cheap though!

Also, I have the stuff for the breakfast shakt in, so am using it. I quite like it actually, and it is quite filling.

OP posts:
Bemyclementine · 01/08/2022 21:59

@JosephineGH yes you're right, breakfast and lunch were light on calories, dinner was not! Chicken breast would have been my choice to go with my lunchtime salad.

OP posts:
Rainbowqueeen · 01/08/2022 21:59

I’d replace the chicken Kiev with marinaded chicken breast Other than that I think it’s great.

yes brownie and icecream not ideal but you clearly see it as a treat food

Bemyclementine · 01/08/2022 21:59

The kids love a chicken Kiev.

Didn't enjoy the brownie at all, not even sure why I had it tbh.

Personally I wouldnt have had the jacket spud, lots of calories and carbs for not much benefit. You had carbs in your peas and sweetcorn. The kiev is not only tasty but had fat and protein in it so is good for making you feel full up

Ive ignored the dessert because I assume its not every day.

AhaLyn · 01/08/2022 22:32

Plenty of benefits to spud over Kiev. Full of vitamins.
