Heated throw

Is anyone else considering getting one for winter, or already have one they can recommend?

Do you need to buy one for every member of the house, or just adults wfh and still put the heating on when the dc are home?

How many years does it take to recoup the cost do you think? 🤔

Do it! Best lockdown purchase ever and means I don’t have to put the heating on in saunter when I’m working.

Mine’s a Dreamland fake fur one - was from
Argos but looks like they haven’t got them in at the moment.

We make do with one but if the DC and animals
had their way they’d have one each.

They wash well too.

*winter not saunter

I bought Dreamland throws last winter - one each for me and DS (there’s only the 2 of us). Really pleased with them. DS uses his on his bed at night and I use mine at my desk when I work from home and on the sofa in the evenings. We always use the timer and tend to have them on a low heat for an hour at a time at most.

I prefer a hot water bottle in bed and sometimes in my lap at my desk! Electric throws are a different kind of heat I think - not quite so comforting somehow as a hot water bottle or a radiator.

I’ve no idea about how long it would take to recoup costs but they take pennies to run vs the pounds it would cost to have the heating on during the day. And they’ll last years.

I still put the heating on early evening in winter as we’re on our feet cooking etc rather than sitting down under a throw.

I have bought one ready for winter. I am not going to be able to afford to have my heating on, so making sure I have things in place now to keep me warm.

Heroicallyl0st · 30/07/2022 09:02

Btw Dreamland are also stocked in Lakeland. I bought mine from John Lewis last year but they’re out of stock at the moment. Probably a seasonal product so I’d look out at the end of the summer.

Walkley18 · 30/07/2022 09:04

Mine seems really big, could fit three on the sofa while watching TV. I got one (requested as Christmas gift) after seeing it recommended on here and love it. Kept telling DH off for putting heating on last winter because I would rather snuggle into blanket. Mind you, he was in t shirts when he did it! We both work from home so didn't bother with heating until DS came home from school, I had my blanket on lap, out of sight of Zoom, he used a little fan heater every now and then when it got too cold. The blanket has 9 heat settings and an auto off timer in case you fall asleep.

withiceplease · 30/07/2022 09:06

@Walkley18
What brand is yours please?

cameocat · 30/07/2022 09:07

We have one from lakeland. Gave it to DH as he works from home and didn't want to heat whole house all day. DS and I also fight over it at night on the sofa.

Walkley18 · 30/07/2022 09:09

Here's the throw I got.

RSitf · 30/07/2022 09:16

I’ve toyed with getting one of these for ages! Seems their out of stock in Argos and John Lewis, I’ll keep hunting!

Manekinek0 · 30/07/2022 09:18

They are brilliant and cost pennies an hour to run. I got one from Lidl last year, I'm sure they will come on sale again in the autumn.

Recycledcurtains · 30/07/2022 09:19

Just a word of caution…. I had a heated throw and it was lovely, but I accidentally left it on top of its controller on day for about 30 mins and it melted the controller!

(I appreciate its my own ridiculous actions that caused this)

toastinateapot · 30/07/2022 09:24

No idea of the brand but PILs got us one with a timer which is great (although maybe that’s standard and this is pointless to post, who knows).

AchillesLastStand · 30/07/2022 09:28

You need a Dreamland one. I got a faux fur Dreamland one from Lakeland several years back and I can honestly say it’s the next purchase I’ve ever made. It’s been washed and still works well. I bought a cheaper version and the heat was nowhere near as good and it stopped working within a few months. I wouldn’t wait until the colder weather to get one because they may not be in stock. My mum and sister have just got one each each for the winter. It will more than pay for itself.

Stressybetty · 30/07/2022 09:34

They usually have them on Amazon. Last winter I had a smaller one round my shoulders and another on my lap WFH on really cold days. One per adult on settees downstairs and a normal electric blanket on our bed. We have a gas fire but otherwise didn't have to use the heating at all, no children. I find they are quite expensive, £50+ for a large decent one, they don't last long and you can't buy replacement controllers for them. They do attract dogs however, sitting at my desk I'd find it steadily pulled off my lap and made into a nest on the floor.

Hoolahulahoop · 30/07/2022 09:38

Absolutely love mine. Good for that time of the evening before the heating kicks in.
Also the kids love it after school as they sit on the sofa.

Mine is from aldi and has a few settings.

TheFeistyFeminist · 30/07/2022 09:46

Mine came from Lakeland. It isn't huge, but enough for over my lap while working. The timer is very effective, and I do notice when it has switched itself off. The heating settings are also very effective, I can imagine not needing the higher ones at all unless I had fallen over in deep snow outside and felt really chilled!

whydoesithurtsomuch · 30/07/2022 10:29

I bought one a couple of years ago, the Dreamland faux fur one, and love it. Bought my dd one as a housewarming present and she says she couldn't live without it. Both were bought on offer from Costco - they seem to have them on offer from the end of August

Unforgettablefire · 30/07/2022 10:40

Another here with the Lakeland fur throw. My dd loves it and wants one but they're constantly out of stock.
I got the husky type it was expensive but I know in the winter it will pay for itself for what I save on central heating.
It's roughly the same size as a single bed duvet and it's warm even when it's not switched on.
Wish I'd bought one years ago!

chipsandpeas · 30/07/2022 10:40

i have a dreamland one i got from argos last winter and its great, can wrap it round me while working or lying on the couch, you could even sleep in bed with it, but i have an electric blanket anyway

Unforgettablefire · 30/07/2022 10:42

Sorry mine's Dreamland not Lakeland

SunnieShine · 30/07/2022 10:46

I have the Dreamland one and i love it.

SybillaB · 30/07/2022 10:51

I bough this one in navy after recommendations on here last winter. Bought one for my daughter for Christmas and she says it saved her lots on her bill.

I must have been buying something online and my bankcard ended up under my heated throw and it melted the bank card into a weird shape!

WhatIsThisPlease · 30/07/2022 10:59

Love mine. Makes WFH bearable. Ended up having to buy DC one each too. Best money I've ever spent.

And judging by latest forecasts, I'd say I'll recoup the price of all three in January alone!
