Do you set an alarm to wake up on the weekend when you are not working?

I don’t have to get up in the morning but I just set my alarm for 8am. Dc are teenagers now so I don’t need to be up at a certain time so I don’t know why I do it. I used to love a lie in but I prefer to be up early these days.

God yes otherwise I wouldn’t wake until midday!

And the problem with that is???

garlictwist · 29/07/2022 22:58

I am an early bird and usually up by six anyway. No kids but I like to get up early and make the most of the weekend.

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 29/07/2022 23:01

God no. The weekend lie in is one of life’s great joys. Woke up at 10:50 this morning.

Clymene · 29/07/2022 23:03

Nope. Sometimes I wake up at 6, have tea and breakfast and then go back to sleep until 10 or so Smile

I will probably be up before 8am but I set the alarm just in case. It wouldn’t hurt just to wake up naturally at 10.30 but I never would!

Or..... you could just not set an alarm and let yourself sleep.

I never set an alarm unless I have to get up for something.

Baxdream · 29/07/2022 23:12

Only if I have a gym class booked really

EmmiJay · 29/07/2022 23:12

Only if I need to be out the door early. Otherwise nope. I'll sleep until about 9/half 9 and the child wakes up about 10am😅 its wonderful!

AgentProvocateur · 29/07/2022 23:13

No way. I usually wake up around 7, then go back to sleep until after 11 at weekends. Never put my alarm on unless I have to be somewhere before noon. (Adult kids, 48 hr/wk role)

Eh? Does it really 'make the most of the weekend?'. People I know who get up at that time are falling asleep by about 9:30pm!

People who get up later are awake just as long, they just prefer the evening to the morning. I would think that it was a waste of the weekend if I got up early as I would spend it feeling tired!

Cocopogo · 29/07/2022 23:17

No alarm, naturally wake up at same time as usual for work and if I don’t I see it as a bonus!

Bouledeneige · 29/07/2022 23:19

I set my alarm for 9.30 but I'm always awake before that. But I like to get a coffee and sit in bed for a while - before I head to my elderly Dad's house every Saturday morning. My kids are grown now do they're in bed till lunchtime.....

70billionthnamechange · 29/07/2022 23:22

Can't remember when I last set my alarm but I have annoyingly early rising kids

PeloAddict · 29/07/2022 23:22

Yep, I don't wake up naturally
Well I do but it would be 3pm

It's 'at the weekend' not 'on the weekend' - unless you're American.

Lol. Pointless

fernz · 29/07/2022 23:23

Yes but for the latest possible time I want to be up and then usually wake up naturally before anyway, especially this time of year when it's sunny and light so early.

Passmethecrisps · 29/07/2022 23:27

Nope!! I do have a weird thing though where despite being on holiday all summer I cancel each alarm day by day rather than at once. There is something incredibly satisfying about switching off an alarm at bedtime max

i Tend to wake at about 6am abs then have a lovely few hours dozing. I am extremely lucky in that DH and youngest DC get up together and I have lovely long lies. I have no idea how I will reset back to work

MakeadealwithGod · 29/07/2022 23:38

I nearly put ‘of a weekend’ so what does that make me? 🤓

I'm glad someone else has pointed out the early risers who like to get the 'most out of the weekend' are generally tucked up in bed at 9.30pm! I have friends like this! could never book at table to eat out at say 9pm (gasp) far too late.
I know everyone is different and no-one is right or wrong but I never go to bed before 12.30am and it's often 2/3am on Friday/Saturday so get the most out of the weekend in the evenings not the early mornings.
Of course when you have small children this pattern would never work but once you are free of that then you can do what suits you best. At this time of year I've been known to go to bed as the sun is rising.

Antarcticant · 30/07/2022 00:02

No. I'm usually up by 8 anyway, but if I happen to sleep late I will make the most of it. Alarm goes off at 6:30 am in the week so 8 is a lie-in.

A Northern Lass 😁

Kite22 · 30/07/2022 00:08

Yes, I set an alarm, but I set it for about 10.30, so I don't sleep in until midday.

Not quite understanding setting an alarm for 8am on a non-working day, if you don't have anywhere to be.

Jalisco · 29/07/2022 22:23

8am is early?

🙄

dutysuite · 30/07/2022 00:21

No, I stay up late and therefore I like a lovely long lie in sometimes until 12 ;depends on what I’ve got going on of course.

Shergill15 · 30/07/2022 00:32

Not unless I have to be somewhere in the morning. I'm usually wiped out from the week and left to my own devices could happily sleep til 10am or even later. DD usually has other ideas though 🙄

Oldraver · 30/07/2022 08:33

No, I have cats though
