Oh do fuck off Will Smith

He's trying to make out that he has been wracked with guilt for the last 3 months and that he in no way things his actions were ok and that hitting someone one was in no way an appropriate way to deal with the sudden an intense feeling he had.

Bull.

He was at a massive public and world televised event. He didn't just lash out the second he heard the remark. He walked all the way up to the stage , then up the steps, then across the stage to hit Chris Rock. If that wasn't enough time to rethink his reactions then how long did he need?

So stop trying to make out you actually a decent person that 'just made a mistake'. You are violent. So fuck off Will Smith.

Yes, he’s a dick.
Its obviously affecting his career. He should have grovelled for forgiveness when he did it.

MorrisZapp · 29/07/2022 17:23

What an absolute nobber. Surely he'll never work again.

Bonjovispjs · 29/07/2022 17:23

I agree, he's just wallowing in self pity🙄

Wartywart · 29/07/2022 17:26

I imagine he's being left off the guest list at a lot of parties these days, so this is his attempt to get back on those lists.

BeanieTeen · 29/07/2022 17:26

Definitely. He’s clearly not as ‘nice’ as he’s always tried to portray. If that happened in in front of millions of people watching, what the hell has been going on off camera I wonder?
When I initially heard about it I thought he was on stage with Chris Rock, next to him, and it really was just a spur of the moment reaction. But no, as you say OP, he had to walk from his seat to the stage first… WTAF?? Completely unhinged.

tattychicken · 29/07/2022 17:31

He was applauded and was giving out high fives at the after party, so it was more than a spur of the moment thing. He thought he'd been a bit of a hero at the time and is now backtracking rather speedily and not very genuinely.

IncompleteSenten · 29/07/2022 17:32

He had a very unpleasant smirk on his face on the way back to his seat too.

BeenThereBoughtTheTeeShirt · 29/07/2022 17:39

It's taken him a while. Not sure why he "does not want to feel ashamed" as well as remorseful, not saying he should proclaim himself to be a piece of shit but I would have been ashamed of that action.
Should he be cancelled/publicly shamed forever more? Not if he can grow and redeem himself and give back. He is fortunate that Rock chose not to take it further. A public apology straight off would have felt more sincere however. Should not take 3 months to work out assault = bad.

Tartanshawl · 29/07/2022 17:42

The way he shouted and swore when he sat back down made me cringe.

His son was very proud of his father's behaviour too saying "That's how we roll"....

Such a nice family.

ticktickticktickBOOM · 29/07/2022 17:44

I'd have a tiny shred or respect for him if he'd just come out and said
'since hitting Chris Rock I've realised what a dickhead I am and I'm now doing lots of work on myself to find out what made me think that being violent was ok and to prevent that ever happening again'.

I might even forgive him completely if he also added:
'In order to try and mitigate the harm I may have caused in being a role model to so many children I will immediately donate $300 million dollars and all money I earn from now on, directly to organisations working hard to prevent violence in children which is an epidemic in the US today with child on child gun violence, mass child killings and gang violence being an everyday occurrence'.

I think he thought there was more to come possibly. Chris had said something like, "Oh, that was a nice one" regarding the G.I Jane joke. So perhaps he suspected he was going to be called a cuckold and wanted to stop it. Absolutely no excuse for what he did though. He could have diverted by taking the mile instead.

oopsididitagin · 29/07/2022 17:45

It's also the way he's saying 'cheis, come to me when you're ready' (not verbatim). It's patronising and a highly unapologetic, trying to save his career ''apology''

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 29/07/2022 17:47

He’s prick.

He ended up in Bel Air because he got into a fight.

He has a long history of this behaviour.

BeenThereBoughtTheTeeShirt · 29/07/2022 17:47

Mike not mile.

BeenThereBoughtTheTeeShirt · 29/07/2022 17:54

I agree, not up to Chris to publicly forgive him or help resurrect his career. In fact, he has been very good in not making a routine out of it. Would not blame him if he referred to it at a later date for next tour.

LondonWolf · 29/07/2022 17:55

I couldn't agree more. This is purely to salvage his reputation.

BeanieTeen · 29/07/2022 18:01

Such a nice family.

They all have insanely overinflated egos. The kids live in cloud cuckoo land and are completely out of touch with reality. I think if Will Smith had ever been a genuinely nice and down to earth guy his kids wouldn’t have turned out like that. Their big headed attitude is learned behaviour.

Badger1970 · 29/07/2022 18:09

He's a shining example of what happens when someone's ego grows larger than their talent.

Daisycrown · 29/07/2022 18:09

I'd respect him more if he admitted he thought Chris Rock was a massive prick who has done and said a host of insanely crappy things, but that he was sorry for hitting him with an audience presence.

Covetthee · 29/07/2022 18:11

His apology is very ‘im sorry BUT…’

Hoppinggreen · 29/07/2022 18:14

A Black American friend gave me an interesting point of view.
He says that large sections of the American Black community are annoyed with Smith for playing into the racist “violent uncivilised Black man” trope that is barely beneath the surface in The States.
A sort of “look how they behave” kind of view.
Being neither Black or a man I have no idea how true this is

😂

I've never thought he was any good. Very overrated and not funny at all. His acting was very flat in King Richard and the Bad Boys films are shockingly shit.

How the hell did he even deserve an Oscar? Just Hollywood patting themselves on the back, again.

No wonder his poor mom got scared

"I should have hit him in private not on a stage."

Weird you have respect for victim blaming.

LondonWolf · 29/07/2022 18:29

I find him very one note and an over emoter. He does this thing where he kind of pouts/puffs his mouth out when he is showing emotion or crying, but I suspect it's supposed to be show how strong yet wracked with pain he is. We call it the Pout Of Pain and it makes an appearance in pretty much every movie he's in.
