Best sanitary towel for heavy periods

Crunchymum · 27/07/2022 22:27

I won't even bother to say I'm not a period troll (that's what they all say)

Google seems to have conflicting info. I'm going to be away. In a house with pristine white bedding.

I currently use Always Maxi but they don't always do the trick.

I'm happy to spend £ and I'd consider maternity pads (ones I've used when I was actually post natal weren't great though!)

Always nighttime doubled.

One over the other.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/07/2022 22:32

Kotex night time are good but I would also take a baby's disposable change mat ,like the sort they give you in hospital after having a baby. Have you tried period pants?

Sunshineandrainbow · 27/07/2022 22:32

Have you tried night time pads?
Maybe a puppy pad on the bed too.

I have some granny knicker period pants for another layer of back up

WeDoNotTalktoPennilynLott · 27/07/2022 22:36

When I was going through peri and flooded a lot, I swore by Kotex. They're thick and not exactly invisible but did the job. None of these new thin ones did.
Usually found in budget shops really cheap like Home Bargains and b&m

poorbuthappy · 27/07/2022 22:37

Cheap own brand night time pads. Aldis Asda Tesco sainsbos. Towel on bed or puppy pad. My sisters tip if you find the flow goes up the back - put a square of toilet paper between your bum cheeks. I can't vouch for this personally. She swore by it. Past tense cos she hasn't had a period for like 4 years. Lucky swine

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 27/07/2022 22:41

I wear the modibody maxi 24 period pants complete revelation for night times

PurplePotato · 27/07/2022 22:42

The best would be incontinence pads like Tena Lady as they absorb a LOT more blood than any sanitary pad. Or you could go the whole hog and get their disposable pants, or buy "inco" pads to lie on in case of any leaks.

Passthecake30 · 27/07/2022 22:43

A thick pads like Kotex on top of a maxi ultra winged pad. 2 pairs of knickers and then lie on top of a thick towel.

TooMinty · 27/07/2022 22:44

Primark have period knickers which are pretty decent considering how cheap they are.

jellybeanteaparty · 27/07/2022 22:47

Incontinence pads if really really heavy backed up with period pants for night.

PeloAddict · 27/07/2022 22:48

If you have time to order them (get them anyway) then these reusable
I've never ever had a leak with them and my periods are the "panic when you sneeze" type

They do a night one too

mrsfoof · 27/07/2022 22:48

I'd go for a belt and braces approach.

Use your normal nighttime towel but with disposable Tena pants or reusable period pants designed for heavy flow. This should catch any leaks.

You could always sleep on a disposable change mat / puppy pad / inco pad as well.

PenguinLove1 · 27/07/2022 22:50

Always have a night time towel that comes in a black packaging i think and its the best by a mile. I use a super plus tampax, one of those towels, and also put a towel on the bed when im really bad.

I did get mefanemic acid tablets for mine and it does work

StRaphael · 27/07/2022 22:50

Shame you’re having to even worry about this. Hope you have a nice time.

MummyJasmin · 27/07/2022 22:51

Great timing of thread! 😫

LidlCinnamonBun · 27/07/2022 22:52

I got a product test for some period pants on here and they are fantastic. I would recommend them. It was the ModiBodi ones.
I would use a sanitary pad and wear the pants if your flow is heavy.

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 27/07/2022 22:57

Period pants with a heavy duty pad, maybe a maternity pad for length. Sleep on a changing mat or something similarly waterproof. Can you use tampons/menstrual cup?

If you're really struggling, set an alarm every few hours and wake up to change your sanpro. Not ideal but might keep the bed white

HowcanIhelp123 · 27/07/2022 22:58

May not help for this trip but in general, if you're not adverse to wearing an internal product I recommend menstrual discs. They can hold up to 50ml liquid (double most overnight pads) and I personally prefer them over cups as no suction so doesn't migrate or get stuck! You can also get ones with stems etc for easy removal and can have sex with them in. One of those (with a pad as back up until comfortable) was a game changer for me.

mrs55 · 27/07/2022 22:59

Lil let's maternity pads

cbatopainttheshed · 27/07/2022 23:13

Always ultra night time size 5. I also take a towel with me to put on the bed to sleep on just in case of leakage. I have endo and very heavy periods. It's not fun ☹️

Crunchymum · 28/07/2022 08:14

Thanks for all the suggestions. Need them ASAP (am already away) so I'll see what I can source.

How have I been having periods for 30 years and never heard of menstrual discs? Will check them out.

Bodyform night

when we are away and I’m on my period I put a towel on the bed as I’m petrified of leaking on the sheets, period pants are great too.

LetsGoRound · 28/07/2022 08:31

I know that strictly speaking, they're not sanitary pads, but I find Aldi continence pads do an excellent job for heavy flows.
And at around 79p for 14 they're great value too.

LetsGoRound · 28/07/2022 08:32

And they're not scented either.
