London theatre tickets

I really can't afford £80+ for theatre tickets but would love to take my DC to the theatre. I've sat right at the back before and I'm not sure it's worth spending £50 for not a great view.

Does anyone have any secret tips for how to get stalls tickets for less than £50 please?

Apparently tickets are reduced on the day if you can do last minute?

Greyingmumto3 · 27/07/2022 11:48

Search for see it first . I joined recently and they email offers regularly.

Cherms · 27/07/2022 11:49

Definitely can do last minute as we'll be there anyway. Do I go to the box office or a secret cheap ticket booth somewhere in London?

Today Tix is a great app.... they release some tickets for shows at 10am... you can get 1 or 2 for £25 each, for that days showing. Its only certain shows... they're called Rush tickets

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/07/2022 11:55

Go to Leicester Square on the day and see if there's anything you fancy.

Inmyownlittlecorner · 27/07/2022 11:56

The TodayTix app is great, theatre desk do some great deals & check out kidsweek as there might be some shoes left. Families who love theatre on FB also have really good deals & tips on the best priced tickets.
I always look on seat planner to see how good the view is & then decide on what I’m able to spend. Often the front row is cheap (&Juliet, Back To The Future, Les Mis) because it’s a high stage so restricted view, but we found them all great, including DDs (13 &8). Preview tickets are often cheaper too. We live in central London so don’t have to worry about trains, accommodation etc but we go to a fair few shows a year. We have £15 Dear Evan Hansen tickets for September which DH & DD sat in a few months ago & the view was fine. It can be done, but you need to be savvy!!

Kidsweek runs in August, free kids ticket per adult and additional ones reduced. officiallondontheatre.com/kids-week/

The Leicester Square ticket booth is brilliant. Get there early, and keep an open mind about what you want to see. I got really good seats for Wicked for £52 last month.

minipie · 27/07/2022 11:59

Non west end theatres are much cheaper IME. I’m SW London and go to children’s plays at the Rose Kingston, Battersea Arts Centre, Polka. There’s lots of other options in different areas of London. They usually put kids’ shows on in the school holidays.

Depends if you want one of the big name musicals though.

fatlazycow · 27/07/2022 11:59

TodayTix app is great. They often have offers on and I’ve had some great seats for 25-30 pounds in the past few months.
They also do rush tickets for 25 on the day but I’ve never used those.

Other than that always look round at every seller to see where is doing the best deals. Use seat plan.com to get an idea of seat views :)

Doidontimmm · 27/07/2022 12:48

I just looked direct on the theatre website to book on the day!

I’d recommend this, if it’s in the summer. We got three second row seats for £100 to a show.

viques · 27/07/2022 12:51

If you want to take a chance the National Theatre does day tickets if you get there early enough, they can be absolute bargains, but to be honest it’s not always easy to get two seats together.

Doidontimmm · 27/07/2022 12:55

Just looked at today tix app - brilliant thanks to whoever recommended as it’s not just today you can book in advance!!

balalake · 27/07/2022 12:57

Non-west end theatres are often cheaper.

yes you can book advance tickets too… but the same day rush tickets are always in the stalls so great seats for cheap!

At the National Theatre you can get cheap tickets on the day. They have a booth near the entrance where you can buy them.

Dreikanter · 27/07/2022 13:14

If your DC are aged 12 and above then I’d suggest the Gunpowder Plot immersive show at Tower Hill vaults - tickets start at £35 for 12-15s and £45 for adults. It’s like a cross between theatre and the Crystal Maze with VR mixed in.

OneFrenchEgg · 27/07/2022 14:13

Join Families who love theatre on Facebook - group set up for families to share tips, reviews, ask questions. Loads of friendly advice on there.

Rosiestraws · 27/07/2022 14:20

Another one to strongly recommend Rush tickets on Todaytix - they go on sale for same day tickets at 10am and often appear to sell out quickly but in my experience if you check later in the day you can easily get tickets. And they're often REALLY good seats. I NEVER book in advance or pay more than £39.50 (if I book direct with theatre on the same day, occasionally, and pick rows where they seem to think they're not great views as too close to the front for example) but more often than not I use Todaytix and get same day Rush tickets.

They do also often have deals for £20/£30/£40 tickets or whatever which you can book in advance but these aren't good for getting good seats ime.

I'm always really cautious of recommending the app too much as I feel like it's going to start bumping up the price or making it difficult for me.. but hopefully not!

I've seen in the last year or so - all in great seats and through the app

Tina turner musical
& juliet
Back to the future
The drifters girl
Dear Evan Hansen
Come from Away
White Noise

and many others!

youngestisapsycho · 27/07/2022 14:28

You have to go on the app… find the shows you like under ‘rush tickets’ and then share the link to Facebook or somewhere… this unlocks that show for you. Then at dead on 10 am in the morning you go on there to try and get tickets for that day… usually have matinee and evening availability

whenwillthemadnessend · 27/07/2022 14:29

Last min great idea

ForcingSmiles · 27/07/2022 14:32

Use TodayTix and go for a midweek matinee

ArialAnna · 27/07/2022 14:38

Disney release unsold tickets at £25 for their shows (Frozen, Lion King, Beauty & the Beast) for the coming week at 12pm on Mondays. But it's pot luck as to whether there's seats remaining together.
