London theatre tickets

I really can't afford £80+ for theatre tickets but would love to take my DC to the theatre. I've sat right at the back before and I'm not sure it's worth spending £50 for not a great view.

Does anyone have any secret tips for how to get stalls tickets for less than £50 please?

Today tix app is brilliant, got amazing seats for Tina turner for 30 quid, also easy to book in advance!

You have to go on the app… find the shows you like under ‘rush tickets’ and then share the link to Facebook or somewhere… this unlocks that show for you. Then at dead on 10 am in the morning you go on there to try and get tickets for that day… usually have matinee and evening availability

you don't have to share on social media to unlock rush tickets... there's an option to click "unlock without sharing" which also works

TKTS is the 'proper' ticket booth in Leicester Square. They sell tickets at full price too, so don't assume that all their tickets are reduced. And be aware that reduced price tickets in the stalls (good seats) might still cost more than full-price tickets for cheaper parts of the theatre (eg the balcony).

DD is musical theatre obsessed so we go loads.

I never pay more than £30 a ticket. Some seats are incredible for this price. Sat next to the sound booth at the Arts theatre for Bonnie and Clyde and had a direct middle view of the stage.

The palladium has great cheap seats - we always go at the top, at the back, on the left and have never missed anything.

The only problem we had this year was seeing 'the glass menagerie' and our restricted view tix were restricted. But that was bad luck, often they say that at booking and it's fine.

I always buy from the theatre directly. I am signed up to loads of websites who tell me what's coming out so I can book tix they day they are released which means I always get the best cheapest available (usually the seats behind the next price range above).

Today tix is brilliant though.

Not sure if you’re set on the West End, OP, but there’s the Globe theatre for Shakespeare etc too… it’s a great experience to just be in the building. I just got tickets for a kids As You Like It - £7-£15 a ticket full price.

August is kids month. If you are taking children to certain shows the tickets are half price. Not sure on ratio of adults to children.

What time do the on the day tickets go on sale on that app please?

@Cherms todays tics go on sale at 10.00 am each day, for that days performance.

Doidontimmm · 27/07/2022 19:49

Does anyone know of similar apps for theatres out with London?

MajorCarolDanvers · 27/07/2022 19:56

Use the Tix app.

I regularly get great seats for £25-£50 on it. I've seen Frozen, Wicked and Anything Goes in the last few months.

You have to be up for last minute though.

Cherms · 30/07/2022 21:01

I'm hoping with the train strikes there will be more availability than usual!

There’s a Facebook page called Break A Leg Theatre. The woman who runs it buys groups of tickets at a discounted group rate in band a seats and sells them on.

Cherms · 01/08/2022 22:57

Managed to get some great on the day tickets via officiallondontheatre.com/tkts/

Definitely do the kids go half price in August thing, as linked above - I’m just travelling back now from &Juliet, great seats for £36.50 (and no booking fee), and we’ve booked for Dear Evan Hansen later in August for £25 a seat!

LIZS · 02/08/2022 17:53

Frozen has just released tickets starting at £25.
