Tenby is beautiful. You have to go to Caldey island. You could stay in Saundersfoot and visit Tenby. That's what I do.

Fladdermus · 26/07/2022 20:20

Absolutely love Tenby, been there many times. There's so much to do in Pembrokeshire that you could go for a month and still have things on your list.

Our favourites:
Caldy Island, visit the monks and eat all their chocolate
Pembroke Castle
Folly Farm
Oakwood theme park
Castel Henlys (bit further afield)

Yankydoodledandy · 26/07/2022 20:21

Want somewhere in the thick of it so we can just walk to everything as we drive all week for jobs so just chill and walking time

Tenby is gorgeous and has 3 beaches to choose from. Loads of restaurants. Nearby is Manor House Zoo, Heatherton adventure park, Manorbier castle and beach and lots of cute villages.

TheBirdintheCave · 26/07/2022 20:25

If you go to Caldey Island definitely take bug spray to keep the horse flies away! The island is beautiful but they were everywhere when my friend and I visited 😱

Yankydoodledandy · 26/07/2022 21:59

Thanks all.

Where to eat?

penonpaper · 26/07/2022 22:13

Florentinos.

The fat seagull.

They are my faves but There's lot of very good places to eat.

TomAllenWife · 26/07/2022 22:13

I fucking hate it
Everyone and their dog in Wales goes there or has a caravan there
I refuse to go now

It's very emperors new clothes

ITriedToStopSwearingButICunt · 26/07/2022 22:16

Lovely place, but sooo busy in summer!

brookstar · 26/07/2022 22:19

Parking can be a nightmare so try and book somewhere that has private parking as it makes life so much easier.

I second the comment about insect repellent if you visit Caldy island - I still have scars!

The seal safari is good. Pembroke castle isn't too far away either.

Tenby is lovely - we go every year. The beaches are beautiful.

Arnaquer · 26/07/2022 22:24

Yes it's such a great place for families.

Ditto this ^^

Simplelobsterhat · 26/07/2022 22:26

I love tenby but it does get very crowded in peak season (not the beaches so much as there is plenty of room compared to the size of the town, but the town centre heaving, hard to book a restaurant etc last year). It's pretty though and loads to do in the area.

We've always had a car and stayed outside tenby- either saundersfoot or lydstep, so don't know how easy it is without a car but you can definitely get a boat to Caldy Island and a bus (or long walk on coast path) to saundersfoot at least.

I can't recommend eating places as only been once in last few years and our restaurant booking got cancelled due to short staff but that was a general issue last summer. Have heard good things about Billycan.

Funnyfive · 26/07/2022 22:31

We love Tenby, Folly farm is an absolute must! The boars head just up the road is really nice for food. If you’re a Harry Potter fan then a trip to visit Dobby’s grave at freshwater west should be on the list, even if you don’t like Harry Potter the beach is absolutely stunning!

Sparklingbrook · 26/07/2022 22:31

Everybody raves about Tenby but I was very underwhelmed, and didn't see how it was any better than other seaside towns.
My parents went recently and booked up for meals out before they got there to make sure. They said parking was stressful, and the town was busy, and this was not in school holidays or anything.

WhiskersPete · 26/07/2022 22:38

We went last summer and it was so busy. Every day was a challenge trying to find somewhere to eat for lunch and dinner. It was probably the least relaxing holiday I've been on.

Pbbananabagel · 26/07/2022 22:59

Been going for 30 years, hoping to move there soon!

Park in the sainsburys long stay car park, it’s actually very cheap for a week’s parking.

most Of the best apartments will be booked now for the summer but have a look on Airbnb.

eat at Indie Burger, Sandbar (also drink here), Top Joe’s Pizzeria and for a date night try The Bay Tree. Plantagenet House does an amazing Sunday lunch if they’re open again yet. Buy incredible sandwiches for a beach picnic from Loafley.

Get coffee and breakfast or brunch from the stowaway under the harbour arches or Mor on st Julian’s street.
Drink at Sandbar, Harbwr and the Lifeboat.

without getting in your car - Go to Caldey island (boat trip tickets bought by harbour), climb up to the old fort on St Katherine’s island, visit the monument and the Tudor merchants house.
and so so much else to explore around Pembrokeshire, plan a couple of days to enjoy some of it and don’t spend the whole time in town!

Wideawakeandconfused · 26/07/2022 23:18

If you’re expecting a seaside town akin to one in Cornwall, you’ll be disappointed.

Tenby is it’s own place; small with some beautiful Victorian townhouses. It’s a bit wild around the edges which gives it its charm. It’s better, less ‘commercial’ and crowded than Cornwall.

The beaches are lovely and you can waste a day rock pooling and walking the length of the beach. If you like golf, Tenby offers one of the best links courses in the UK.

There are some lovely shops, as well as your typical touristy places. Rock and sweet shops are easy to find. There’s a wonderful independent book shop opposite the Lifeboat bar (which is bouncing on a Friday night).

Plantagenet for dinner if you get an evening to yourself otherwise there are lots of family friendly bars and restaurants.

Near by is Saundersfoot - walk from this little beach side village to Amroth and enjoy the stunning views along the coastal path.

You’ll never regret a holiday to Tenby.

RicottaCake · 26/07/2022 23:19

Too busy!

Mennex · 26/07/2022 23:22

Great beaches!

mumboss1984 · 26/07/2022 23:23

Love Tenby, it is one of my favourite places ❤️

Folly Farm is worth a visit. For places to eat I would recommend Sandbar and The Salt Cellar.

Enjoy 😊

Yankydoodledandy · 27/07/2022 14:19

Have found accommodation just outside at Saundersfoot.

Fab we had a lovely week there last year, and you can go out tenby as much or as little as you like. What ages are you travelling with / what type of things are you looking to do?

Arnaquer · 27/07/2022 19:11

Saundersfoot has lots of nice places to eat bit need to book.
The Boathouse is the nicest but Harbwr is good.
The Oak does nice food too.
If you can take a walk to the Wiseman's bridge inn through the tunnels they do nice bar meals and have tables right next to the beach.
The nicest beach imo is Coppet Hall, easy to get to. Lots of parking and has toilets and a coffee van
