If you WFH FT and have grown-up kids (or no kids) what time do you get up?

Just that, really. Understandably, people with small children must get up at a certain time because of breakfast, school runs, etc. But if you work from home, and don't need to attend to your children in the morning (or have none), what time do you get up? My alarm goes off at 8:00am and I'm at my desk for 900am. Just curious as to what time others with a similar set up, get up and start working. I usually finish around 6:30pm / 7:00pm.

Not me but DS wakes up at 9:45 for a 10 am start!

Blackdiame · 26/07/2022 11:05

8am to start for 9am. Always make time to do something for me before I do something for anyone else first thing in the morning.

yonce · 26/07/2022 11:05

Normally between 6-7am if my DH isn't travelling, finish work by 5 ish depending on how busy it is (with the occasional super late night until 2am thrown in).

About 6:45 am. We go for a walk to feed the ducks / pet the dogs in the park before starting work at 8am (finish at 4pm)

Strugglingtodomybest · 26/07/2022 11:23

Whatever time I feel like! That ranges between 6 and 10am.

DandelionPocket · 26/07/2022 11:25

Up at 7am so I can go for a small walk and have breakfast before starting at 8.30am.

RebOrHon · 26/07/2022 11:29

6.30 on weekdays; walk dogs, shower, breakfast (mine and animals) and do kitchen/laundry, make beds Start work by 8.30. Usually up by 7 at the weekend.

IRememberXanadu · 26/07/2022 11:30

Those of you waking up before 8:00am - is that because you wake up naturally that early? Or because you set the alarm? If the latter, do you not like a lie in?

Get up around 6.45am in summer to walk the dog together for an hour, come home and have breakfast, chat over the news and tea, then I shower and start just before 9 and work through to 5 ish. DH cooks dinner and we sort our own lunch out.

In winter we get up later as dog not keen on walking in the dark, more like 7.30am.

SheWoreYellow · 26/07/2022 11:30

Are you asking people who can control their start time? You’ll get different answers from those who have to start at nine.

SundayTeatime · 26/07/2022 11:32

I have to start work at 8am -as that is my contractual start time. I get up at around 7:30, though will have been awake since before 6.

IncompleteSenten · 26/07/2022 11:33

Varies. Any time between 6am up to after 11 if I've had a particularly bad night or am in more pain than normal.
But I am self employed and it's up to me how I manage my work hours.

GrilledWatermelon · 26/07/2022 11:33

Missed your additional post...we're both usually awake by 6.30am, always have been. In earlier life we both had outdoorsy jobs that involved starting at 6am, and I did a few years in the city more recently so my alarm went off at 5.40am in that time. We're just used to being up well before 8, that would be a lie in!

monsterastuckiosa · 26/07/2022 11:33

I wake up at 7am. Don't seem to need an alarm - my body clock's reliable.

Walk DDog, bit of a morning yoga / stretch session, then an hour's writing before I start work at 9.

rookiemere · 26/07/2022 11:34

I get up at 7 as I tend to log on at 8 or 8.30 because I do a compressed working week. I'd much rather finish at a reasonable hour - 5 if possible- than work later.

DH is up anyway to walk the dog and DS during term time - although he sorts himself out in the morning as 16.

I wouldn't really enjoy a lie in knowing I'd need to work later because of it. At the weekend we sleep in until about 8 or so.

Motnight · 26/07/2022 11:34

Up around 6 am. Go out for s 45 minute walk, and am at my desk for 8 am.

I got up a lot later for a while and didn't do a morning walk and felt terrible as a result.

GrilledWatermelon · 26/07/2022 11:35

Right now I'm face down on the bed with a worsening migraine (occasionally picking up phone). About to give in and take all the drugs. Thank god for WFH.

ihavenocats · 26/07/2022 11:38

9.30am - 10am

WFH and often work late as I prefer being active in the evening than morning.
Was home educating so child got up similar time.
Occasional early for me for specific deadlines which can be anything from 5am, but they are the odd morning.
Sometimes early for a trip but generally around 9.30am. This is what my body functions best on. I sometimes work until 10pm but enjoy it. When I get up earlier I get tired in the afternoon.

ZiaMcnab · 26/07/2022 11:39

I only wfh 2 to 3 days per week so get up a bit earlier than I would naturally, in order not to vary my waking time during the week (too much!). I set an alarm for 7.30 but, depending on how tired I am, I might not get up till 8 am and then, depending on what I'm doing to get ready (washing hair/ shaving legs or neither) and what I have for breakfast I'll start work anytime between 8.30 and 10am. My start time in the office varies by a similar amount, but half an hour later (and I have to get straight out of bed and get going at 7.30 to achieve that!)

IRememberXanadu · 26/07/2022 11:42

Yes of course, my question is aimed at people who can choose their starting time.

murasaki · 26/07/2022 11:42

8.15 for a 10am start, although i often triage emails on my phone in front of the TV before 10.

emmathedilemma · 26/07/2022 11:47

Usually 7 or 7:30 to start 830 - 9ish. I like to use the days I'm at home to do some chores before i start e.g. laundry / unload dishwasher etc as the days I go in the office i get up and dash out the door.

SundayTeatime · 26/07/2022 11:48

I can’t imagine most people who work from home can choose their starting time. I certainly can’t.

catfunk · 26/07/2022 12:17

Alarm at 8am as a back up but I'm usually awake from 6.30. Scroll my phone for a bit, read the news, shower and coffee etc. at my desk between 8-9 but I can start any time up until 10am if I wanted to.

flipperdoda · 26/07/2022 12:42

Alarm 6.15, gym before starting work at 9. Non gym day I have a backup alarm set for 8.30 but realistically it's rare for me to sleep past 7 or at the latest 7.30am, weekday or weekend. I could choose to start earlier but this way exercise is sorted for the day and the evenings are chill time!
