A villa in Spain Greece or Italy.

thenightsky · 25/07/2022 21:54

Timely thread OP. Me and DH have just retired and are looking at villas to hire for a month next summer in the Costa Brave countryside. Sailing on the ferry from Portsmouth and driving across Spain.

I’d second Italy. Trains are v economical if booked in advance. We did a 3 week holiday visiting Milan, Turin, Pisa, Cinque Terre, lake como… really enjoyed it… departed on Eurostar and changed trains in Paris

bumblefeline · 25/07/2022 21:56

California.

We spent a month in Florida at Easter. Naples was just beautiful and my kids loved Anna Maria Island. We had a fabulous time exploring and I’d love to go again.

I'd pack the dogs into the Van and explore the whole of the UK coast.

LovelyYellowLabrador · 25/07/2022 22:16

im not sure about Greek island hopping, as I find one island so similar to another

Canada - city hop across the country and finish in the mountains - nice resort by a lake and relax for the last week

whiteroseredrose · 25/07/2022 22:26

New Zealand. So much variety.

NeverHadANickname · 25/07/2022 22:31

My first thought was to travel around Italy because I always wanted to do it and knew I'd like to take my time, but the other ideas on here are good too; Australia, Africa, I don't live in the UK anymore so that would be nice too.

Road trip round the top of Australia - start in Darwin, head to Broome via the Kimberleys

Or for a Pacific adventure try the Cook Islands (Rarotonga, Aitutaki, Atiu). Beautiful.

Watchthesunrise · 25/07/2022 22:33

New Zealand in winter is pretty shit.

Pieceofpurplesky · 25/07/2022 22:34

Camper van around Scotland, staying in really remote places.
Have been all over the world but something about the wildness of Scotland keeps drawing me back

TheBikiniExpert · 25/07/2022 22:36

I'm surprised at so many people saying Italy. I live in Italy and I hate the summer! It is currently 33 degrees in my bedroom and I am dreaming of somewhere cooler, maybe Norway or Scotland.

ivykaty44 · 25/07/2022 22:36

france and turn right as south as I can go - stopping on the way

ChipsRoastOrBoiled · 25/07/2022 22:51

For a month, it would have to be Australia for me.

honkeytonkwoman38 · 25/07/2022 22:53

France in the campervan.

HollowTalk · 25/07/2022 22:59

I've just looked at the cost of a ticket on a train from Venice to Rome. It's 520 km and the ticket costs just under 12 euros.

Pieceofpurplesky · 25/07/2022 23:04

@ivykaty44 I would rather be cold than hot though! Smile

When? Most trains cost around 90 euros. I can't find anything that low.

Turkey

Cost of living is so cheap (more than it was but still cheap) - I can stay there for a month and apart from the flight I spend no more than I would at home.

This is what I want to do - maybe after DC does GCSEs and I can budget for a few weeks of unpaid leave

HundredMilesAnHour · 25/07/2022 23:06

Australia. I've been there in their winter before and it's still amazing.
