Aside from buying a house fancy holiday etc, I'd love to go on sites like just giving and donate money for people to reach their targets
I also love random acts of kindness
Reading an article and the person that won the 190 euromillons and thinking what I could do with all that money

i have also been thinking about this. I’d set up a school and finance it in perpetuity if i could for children with ADHD or similar needs to ensure they got the right help. it is just so rubbish for them at the moment. the school would have psychiatrist support and teachers who wanted to make a difference, and a head who knew and used the right educational strategies.

jumpingjackonthelash · 24/07/2022 03:30

if we’re talking BIG money…

Could a huge amount of £ help us towards PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION in the UK…?(i’d like to see a move towards helping struggling people in this country - instead of companies - especially those with lobbyists! Eg PHARMA, UBER, OIL companies etc who line the Tories pockets… )

Id like a subsidised transport network of safe and clean buses and trains to exist even just linking my town to other towns. The difference it would make would be immeasurable.

Also… smaller scale…

I’d like to be able to better fund the arts in my local area to advertise and engage the public with the great pieces they have on display.

Cycle lanes everywhere.

Help underprivileged young people to get a much better start in life, including those with fewer/no qualifications.

wineandsunshine · 24/07/2022 07:36

I would post a £1 million pound cheque anonymously to my lovely friend who has a heart of gold.

I won't go into details but she deserves it!

Maggiesgirl · 24/07/2022 07:36

I woukd start a nursery for children of young parents who didn't finish their education.

As long as they went back into full time education of some sort and could prove it then their childcare would be free. After school care would be included.

I woukd by a block of flats and do them up to be a halfway house for victims of domestic abuse as well. Then provide the deposit for victims to move on to their own homes.

I was the parent in both these scenarios and it was so hard. Would really want yo help other victims and young parents.

rocketfromthecrypt · 24/07/2022 07:38

But loads of land, so people couldn't build on it. Lobby parliament to ban holiday homes.

Tapiocapudding · 24/07/2022 07:44

I would pay for Grannies and Grandads to go to Australia so they can see their kids and grandkids. That programme "Wanted Down Under" upsets me every time I watch it.

MrsDThomas · 24/07/2022 07:45

I would not buy a house as I already live in my forever home. Its been in the family for 4 generations and we’ve put a lot of time and money into it. Its beautiful. The location, my friends are here, i work here. Building a huge millionaire mansion is not something the council would allow! Id renovate (kitchen, bathrooms and garden, new garage, buy a lot more land).

i don’t do fancy holidays. Im not a traveller but id have to go one one just to take the kids.

otherwise, id give a lot away. Definitely no major charities, but small ones, preschools, animal shelters, etc

Kissmycousinkate · 24/07/2022 07:53

I would sit with people who were dying and had no family so they didn't die alone. Also volunteer visiting.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 24/07/2022 08:00

For me it would be about setting up investments for things so they can be sustained long term so a good amount of time with a financial advisor!

This like, I live in an area of high deprivation. What set up would allow long term to be able to fund school fingers for all the kids and things like school trips or at least the year 5/6 residential every year. Rather than just paying outright and then it stopping when I die or move away. Can I generate enough income to allow regular equipment renewal?

Same for my village hall. How can I set up a fund that means they can't squander it but will have their running costs met?

I would want to do similar for a lot of local organisations.

Then I would set up a private practice with my colleague offering our specialist service exactly as we would love to be able to offer it. Except it would be completely altruistic so nobody would have to pay.

UmbaRumba · 24/07/2022 08:02

I'd set up a hostal so that teenage boys as well as girls could stay with their mother when fleeing DV

I'd invest the lot of it. £195m invested with a return of 3% (very achievable) gives you a yearly pre-tax income of almost £600,000. No point squandering the principal amount when you could have that and be set for life. When my kids were older I'd split the principal into separate trust funds for them which would eventually be split for their children etc etc. So even way down the generations I'd hope my descendants had a base level income (even a £1m trust fund could get you £30,000 per year).

CormoranStrike · 24/07/2022 08:58

My husband loved tinkering with cars - his dream is to buy cars needing some TLC, get them fit for use and then donate them to a needy family and work on another for someone else.

mine is less altruistic! I’d have the biggest craft room ever, even a craft house, with a sewing gf room, a pottery room and a stained glass room. I could lose days!

Dalaidramailama · 24/07/2022 09:05

I would only give to very small grassroots charities and become a professional potterer!!

VeIouria · 24/07/2022 09:12

Buy a very fancy bass guitar
Buy a flat in Edinburgh
Give a massive wodge to Women's Aid

Luckydog7 · 24/07/2022 09:31

I would buy all the 'development opportunities' pieces of land for sale in my expensive university city and knock down any buildings to return them to parks. Plant trees, pay the council yearly to mow but otherwise leave them for public enjoyment.

I would start a free art/craft studio warehouse with free classes and space for e.g. a knitting group, painting area, pottery etc etc. Supplies all free. Any work coukd be exhibited for free in the gallery/online.

Some kind of grant for vulnerable women, e.g. fleeing dv, refugees etc to get a degree.

Love the idea above of starting a 'flexi' company where anyone can work there and get paid for the work they can do no matter the time or hours.

I dream of starting my own tech/gaming company that adopts start ups or small teams that are struggling for cash. Only causes I agree with though.

Another one, want to start a design company that takes in graduates to renovate decrepid buikdings /land. Both improving the abandoned building and giving the graduates their first job in the industry. Also student work is some of the most innovative imo.

I've been thinking about this, can you tell...

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 24/07/2022 09:39

I’d toss some money to less fashionable charitable causes… but less than everyone else plans to give. I’m obviously not a very nice person.

And I’d buy the Harry Potter x Le Creuset casserole dish, because it’s my definition of a unnecessary luxury purchase.

poptupper · 24/07/2022 09:43

If I'm think purely for myself I'd employ a chef so I never have to think about what to make for dinner ever again
I'd pay them handsomely no minimum wage here
I'd also love a library, floor to ceiling book cases and those ladder that's slide across
and I'd Employ a nanny just so I can read in peace 😅

the first thing I would do is phone a colleague of mine and pay off her mortgage. Her ex husband gave her poor advice during their marriage and she has no pension now and is working on a very stressful job when she should be retired. I would clear her mortgage and set her up with a pension.

I would buy back the businesses on my wee high street that have inexplicably become Turkish barbers & takeaways (3 take away and 4 barbers converted in 3 yrs & every 12 mth they rebrand them all). I would convert them back to the iron mongers and the launderette & the book shop etc. It wouldn’t matter if they made no money.

I would buy as much property in my housing development as possible and rid it of absentee landlords who don’t care about their tenants. I would upgrade all the properties and provide affordable housing for families. I would re landscape the (substantial) grounds to be a haven for wildlife. I would let children play ball games and encourage risky things like rope swings.

I would pay for newspapers to be delivered to my whole post code to help keep my local paper shop going. There is a big derelict shop nearby that I would turn into a community centre with a crèche so young parents could go back to work if they wanted to. I would provide respite care for the elderly and classes like pottery and crafting to promote well being. A sure start for everyone.

I guess in general I would want my local community to thrive.

I would of course help all my family financially. I suppose it would be come a life’s work. How amazing to be able to do that.

berksandbeyond · 24/07/2022 09:45

I would never wash my own hair again. I hate washing my hair

Goldenphoenix · 24/07/2022 09:53

I would buy land and plant new forests. Would be a lasting legacy that would do good.

Would also treat myself to a really nice Tesla.

Vicliz24 · 24/07/2022 10:04

I would move to Greece and become the crazy animal rescue lady .

Govesdancingpartner · 24/07/2022 10:07

I would buy the company that made me redundant then do the same to them. But I am not a nice person

ElegantlyTouched · 24/07/2022 10:18

Similar to pp I'd buy houses and set them up as 6 month rents for women fleeing dv with pets, and also homeless people with pets. So they have somewhere safe to live for a while without having to leave their animals. And make sure there was support included to help them move on to somewhere suitable.
