Which types of threads automatically draw you in?

I've just been skimming the page to see which threads I'd like to click on when I realised I'm always on the lookout for 'Should I go to A&E?' or 'Friend isn't speaking to me' type threads. I'm not sure why these threads are my favourite types and it's just dawned on me that I probably like reading about other peoples misfortunes which is a bit odd and has me questioning why? I don't know what it is, maybe it's that its often madness that it ends up that OP has had a serious medical emergency and didn't actually know that until they posted the thread but I always find them fascinating. The friends fall out one is probably just complete nosiness to be honest but I love reading those too.

What are yours and why?

This sounds like the potential for a "to do" list for a troll.

CantaloupeMelon · 22/07/2022 19:33

I like a good MIL thread! Relationship threads. Any thread that involves reassuring a mum that it's OK to feel sad / bored / frustrated etc with your child. Baby names. Also I find myself surprisingly interested in infertility and stepmum threads (given that neither of these apply to me).

Baaaaaa · 22/07/2022 19:34

I see what you did there :)

TheChosenTwo · 22/07/2022 19:36

Pretty much anything with less than about 20 posts.
The idea of wading through hundreds of posts just to make sure no one else has already repeated the point you might make bores me and makes me less likely to engage.
I do often open them still just to read the op but I’m more likely to want to join in when there’s fewer posts.

McConkeysPlate · 22/07/2022 19:40

Financial/legal/political posts. I like to see if I can learn something.

Tayegete · 22/07/2022 19:46

Boringly I love:

  • should I overpay my mortgage or save

  • anyone else hate work

  • whats your motivation for losing weight

  • anything political

stayathomer · 22/07/2022 20:06

Beauty and skincare, then I always check in on the ones where people are awake late at night but then get out because they’re generally awake for sad reasons and I feel like I’m intruding,

sometimes mil ones because I’ve a nice mil and I feel bad for all the slating and try to offer a better pov.

Oh and any one where people are saying for eg does it not get better than this, just because I’ve been there, done that. Oh and cat ones, and now puppy ones!!!

I’ll admit some of the controversial ones do draw me in the odd time too

SayCheeseBoris · 22/07/2022 20:07

Oh political ones are definite no-go's for me. In fact anything political or too serious I avoid. Love cheeky fucker threads but feel like a lot of them are made up or over exaggerated these days.

I'm a basic bitch who loves a woo thread, a what celebs have you shagged thread, and a life changing item that cost less than £100 thread.

riotlady · 22/07/2022 20:31

I love a seemingly really innocuous thread title with LOADS of replies, usually means ridiculous drama over something minor e.g. “was the assistant at the gardening centre rude or aibu?”

Yes! But I've learnt to check that they aren't zombie threads that have been resurrected by some weirdo.

SatinHeart · 22/07/2022 20:47

Parking threads if I just want to read and not contribute

House moving ones because we spent a year trying to move last year and got there eventually, but learned some hard lessons along the way!

MIL ones because mine has some er, interesting behaviours but we somehow manage to rumble along without any big rows

A580Hojas · 22/07/2022 20:49

Most of Feminism. I read a lot more than I post.

Telly Addicts if it's something I'm watching.

Food and recipes - say no more.

Property.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 22/07/2022 20:55

Anything 'woo', god/religion related, and rants about inane concepts like 'evil'. It's all dark-ages horseshit, and I just can't help myself wading in.

scotstarstrikestwo · 22/07/2022 21:02

I like the 'what's for tea tonight', 'what are your plans today' type threads

SwedishEdith · 22/07/2022 21:05

Politics
DIY / Home décoration - love paint colours
Retirement and money ☹️
I used to always be ready to argue with God people but now realise it's pointless.

Avoid Relationships - assume 99% are made up. Any "drama" threads - tedious. The feminism board. I should be interested but it's only ever about one issue now. I'd rather talk to my teenager about, far calmer conversation.

Oh yes there’s something very cosy about the what’s going on in your house right now/what are you doing today threads

Hawkins001 · 22/07/2022 21:34

I usually browse active threads, and it's a mix, usually their is no preference, mostly the title, seems intriguing then I click on it.

Tis a wonder with some of the items.

lickenchugget · 22/07/2022 21:40

Who have you shagged/guilty crushes/what you’ve eaten today/life hacks/cheap life changing purchases are all guilty pleasures.

Politics and legal threads for brain stimulation.

I avoid the ‘do I need to go to a&e threads’

Hawkins001 · 22/07/2022 21:42

I do like office politics, type threads, especially from a psychological perspectives.

Hawkins001 · 22/07/2022 21:44

Then political threads to increase my knowledge, although it would be intriguing for a stock market analysis type threads too.

There's a Car Blocking My Drive

Should I Get a Guinea-Pig ?

(The 2 aren't related , you don't buy small south american rodents because the prick from 47 has draped across your dropped kerb)

User952539 · 22/07/2022 21:52

Housekeeping - particularly organisation ones. I get very excited about those.

prepping but they’re few and far between.

neighbour disputes - I like to know I’m not the only one living next floor to nutters

BluntWithAC · 22/07/2022 21:53

Family fall out threads.

To see if I can spot anyone from my family talking about me Grin

Shamefully - offensive threads. Love reading through the frenzy.
