Which types of threads automatically draw you in?

I've just been skimming the page to see which threads I'd like to click on when I realised I'm always on the lookout for 'Should I go to A&E?' or 'Friend isn't speaking to me' type threads. I'm not sure why these threads are my favourite types and it's just dawned on me that I probably like reading about other peoples misfortunes which is a bit odd and has me questioning why? I don't know what it is, maybe it's that its often madness that it ends up that OP has had a serious medical emergency and didn't actually know that until they posted the thread but I always find them fascinating. The friends fall out one is probably just complete nosiness to be honest but I love reading those too.

What are yours and why?

OP posts:
Beefilm · 22/07/2022 21:53

Any woo/unexplained thread.

Most general health ones.

And like a PP, I am more likely to click on threads with less replies in the hope that I can be the first with the pithiest response.

Garysparrowsthirdwife · 22/07/2022 21:54

If it’s got the words ‘entitled’ ‘cf’ or ‘eBay’ I’m all over it

love a good cf thread

PuppyMonkey · 22/07/2022 22:07

I like a laundry drying thread.

I like a shit and/or weird neighbour thread.

I like when people say how old do you think I look.

I like mums having a weird person on the school run to deal with.

And when somebody has to give an inconvenient lift to work / or school.

And all weddings threads.

.

OrlaOrka · 22/07/2022 22:22

Love me a woo thread

CF too!

I also love the ‘is this a faint line or evap’ threads and I’m always so happy when they are positive tests 🤣

PinkButtercups · 22/07/2022 22:33

Mainly drama ones or AIBU when you read the title you just know they're already BU 🤣.

Which types of threads automatically draw you in?
OneCup · 22/07/2022 22:45

Financial ones - wages, pensions, mortgages, holidays. I find those fascinating!
Political ones/ daily news/ justice/ crime. I find the range of views interesting and some posters are clearly well informed.
I quite like the what's the best/ worst place you visited/ book you read etc threads
Not keen on relationships, pets, parking, style threads

Holidayworries · 22/07/2022 22:59

I love a good parking thread, particularly if they have blocked the CF in!

Hardbackwriter · 22/07/2022 23:07

I'm obviously deeply psychologically flawed, because the threads I never pass over without opening (I don't always comment but I always open!) are the ones that make me angry or upset: ones about how having a newborn is the easy bit, which still make me feel ashamed and guilty about not enjoying that stage with my eldest even though it's been years now; 'gender disappointment' threads; ones where people post about how horrible women with fertility issues are if they aren't gushing about other people's pregnancies; working mother bashing threads. All of which gives you a very precise picture of me, I guess! There are lots of other types of thread that I genuinely enjoy, but I find myself drawn to those ones like a self-destructive moth to a flame...!

I never look at those now - I never even seem to see them come up, which must be classic frequency illusion - but I was obsessed with them in my fairly lengthy TTC days. When Covid lateral flows became a thing and so I started squinting at lines or not lines again it felt so bizarrely familiar!

Sparklingbrook · 22/07/2022 23:18

Ones that don't sound like a load of made up old cobblers generally.

I avoid A&E or not (how would I know?) anything 'woo' and parking threads, and I can never see a line on a test (except LFTs)

Quite like a cat thread but not a cat poo thread. Used to love the Sleb Twaddle topic but that's disappeared...

Homewardbound2022 · 22/07/2022 23:36

Is this a red flag?
Because 9 times out of 10 it's a massive one flying in the OP's face.

The eating noises thread tonight was right up my street.

glamourousindierockandroll · 22/07/2022 23:44

TheChosenTwo · 22/07/2022 19:36

Pretty much anything with less than about 20 posts.
The idea of wading through hundreds of posts just to make sure no one else has already repeated the point you might make bores me and makes me less likely to engage.
I do often open them still just to read the op but I’m more likely to want to join in when there’s fewer posts.

Absolutely this.

My limit is around 80-100 posts, ideally <50.

If a thread is clearly getting a lot of attention and hundreds of replies I'll usually read the OP and updates but I wouldn't post on it.

JasmineVioletRose · 22/07/2022 23:44

Baby names! No idea why, but they always get me 😂

Pickanameforme · 22/07/2022 23:54

I like all sorts of random thread's. Some that have zero impact on me, but I love some of the amazing knowledge that people have. I also love some of the hilarious one's

DaftyLass · 23/07/2022 00:01

What's in your purse/on your fridge top/bedside
How do you say this word
Fences/boundaries garden fights with neighbours

OldFashionedWoman · 23/07/2022 00:11

Fricking love an "AIBU to think the bill should have been split differently" thread.

Quite niche but, I'm rubbing my thighs when one pops up

pogostickplastique · 23/07/2022 00:11

CF, MIL, Neighbour, Woo. Anything with an inflammatory title like 'am I unreasonable to make my stepchild eat dog food' which is always followed by a thread that is nowhere near as sensational. (Always think those people should be forwarding their CV to the tabloids)

takeitandleaveit · 23/07/2022 00:16

What plant is this? - <plain as the nose on your face>

Am I being too sensitive? - <No, it's him being an arse>

That's pretty much it, to be honest.

JamieFrasersBigSwingingKilt · 23/07/2022 00:19

CFs, baby names, parking, employment situations and property stuff.

ZenNudist · 23/07/2022 00:23

I like religion ones, MIL ones, like to support with breastfeeding because it was so hard for me. I like a good relationship one even where they sound fictional.

prinnycessa · 23/07/2022 00:27

prinnycessa · 23/07/2022 00:27

What are woo threads?

In my perspectives, unexplained, the usual, the realms of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

Sparklingbrook · 23/07/2022 00:31

prinnycessa · 23/07/2022 00:27

What are woo threads?

Paranormal/ghosts/the unexplained/UFOs that type of thing.

prinnycessa · 23/07/2022 00:34

@Hawkins001 @Sparklingbrook thank you
