Can't John Lewis form our next government?

I had a chair delivered last week - the guys couldn't have been nicer. Put it all together for me. Nothing was too much trouble. In STARK contrast to Oak Furniture Land who treated me like a gross inconvenience a few days later.

And then last night, I mistakenly ordered the wrong item and even though it's from a 3rd party supplier, within just a few hours, JL emailed to say no worries, all sorted, refund on way.

I mean they just never give me a bad product or a bad service. They make life just a wee bit easier.

So vote John Lewis!

And no, I am not paid by them!

Dogs are allowed in John Lewis? Like over and above service dogs? Presumably not in the foodhall?

I did a huge order from John Lewis at Christmas and they sent every item separately so I ended up with around a dozen small packages instead of one large box. So I'm not convinced 🤣

HouseInTheHills · 20/07/2022 14:10

Nope. Don’t agree with their changing room policy.....and that advert. 🙄

They also majorly fucked up the installation of equipment in our house, then tried to deny the damage was caused by them and only admitted fault weeks later.

TirednExhausted · 20/07/2022 14:11

No they are awful. I have my own personal boycott of them due to how awful their customer service was to me. I never got any of your bullet points from them, it dragged on for months, they were unhelpful and really rude.

CuriousCatfish · 20/07/2022 14:12

No thanks. I'm more of a Home Bargains kind of woman.

Sunnyshoeshine · 20/07/2022 14:13

Well it took them 18months and 2 incorrect deliveries before we finally got the correct sofa we ordered, so I'm not sure i agree with you on the reliable point... 🤔

WeAreTheHeroes · 20/07/2022 14:14

Waitrose yes. John Lewis no.

nooonakedjacuzziness · 20/07/2022 14:17

Agree that their customer service is appalling these days, so it's a no from me

ChinBristles · 20/07/2022 14:22

Oh dear! Well, at least it's not Next - they are on my boycott list for fucking up delivery of my suit for a job interview years back! And don't get me started on FedEx!

I'll add DPD to the list of people not to run government, they're crap.

On the other hand I'd like our local M&S to do it, they're great.

ChinBristles · 20/07/2022 14:46

Do you know who else is good? The Scottish Building Society. The closest you can get to old-fashioned, local banking. You phone up and speak to either Margaret or Jean who asks you how the kids are.

John Lewis are massively expensive. Their policies on tax would be like Rishi on steroids.

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 20/07/2022 14:52

Oh and definitely not bloody Hermes or whatever name they go by nowadays!

DPD people are usually lovely round here. I have one who delivers every couple of months. I'm usually in my wheelchair but I went to the door on my walking sticks and he gave me a huge cheer and said how amazing it was to see me walking. Aww lovely bloke!

Also definitely not Lush. Omg leave me the fuck alone!!

This. They'd look after you if you have plenty of money, but wouldn't want you through the door if you were struggling.

They haven't been that great customer service-wise either. I wanted a dishwasher, they couldn't deliver one for a week so I bought the same one from Curry's who delivered it the next day for £50 less.

Friend gets all his appliances from John Lewis and he's had problems with every single one, damages, missed deliveries etc.

Heistonabike · 20/07/2022 15:02

Sitel handle JL customer service so yabu just for that.

Blossomtoes · 20/07/2022 15:04

I’d vote for AOL. Best customer service ever, just like JL used to be.

Ridiculous

toastfiend · 20/07/2022 15:24

I had an issue with an order from them and the customer service was absolutely abysmal. They're still trading off their old reputation for being great with customers, but I'd say that in reality that is long gone.

SenoritaNaturista · 20/07/2022 15:33

I think Jet 2 could make a very decent job of it.

(I would secretly like to imagine they have someone ex-RAF who organises everything so well…)

….”our on-board-together policy” ( - i.e respect everyone around you - and behave)

I would just dock one point for when they inevitably announce the flight is now boarding for Future-Ventura, as though it’s some long lost galaxy 300 light years away - rather than Fuerteventura, just in The Canaries 😂

MissyB1 · 20/07/2022 15:56

I would prefer M&S, on the basis that their food is always bloody lovely. Oh and their Prosecco is my favourite.

fussychica · 20/07/2022 16:07

John Lewis, 20 years ago maybe, now definitely not. Outsourced their once top notch customer services department and it's been downhill ever since.

Bluevelvetsofa · 20/07/2022 16:14

JL were pretty poor when I had an issue with my Apple Watch.

We’ve currently got a complaint raised with Evri, who seem unable to deliver, or sort out their tracking.

I’m out of charity with M&S who delivered a pair of jeans that had been worn. There were no tags and there was a hair band in one pocket.

Boots are pretty poor too. They ask me to book a flu jab and then tell me there are no appointments within 50 miles.

rnsaslkih · 20/07/2022 16:16

John Lewis are on the way down the bog. Lucky you that you have not experienced it. They delivered me a faulty washing machine, refused to accept it was faulty and insisted that I should wait 2+ weeks for an engineer. For my brand new machine!! I’ll never buy an appliance from them again. A local guy confirmed it was faulty and informed me I had the right to return it (they pretended this wasn’t the case on the phone
when I asked).

AppleKatie · 20/07/2022 16:20

John Lewis customer service told me it was my fault the expensive pan I bought from them lasted less than a month- …because I had taken the label that said suitable for all hob types to mean I could use it on a gas hob.

The disdain that I had the temerity to not use induction was hilarious (well it would have been if I wasn’t 100 down!!)
