Posh-ish present ideas for one year old niece, please

My brother and his wife like lovely things so I'm looking for recommendations for a lovely present for my little niece for her first birthday. Think along the lines of natural wood, grey felt, design-led Skandi toys that encourage creativity, hand-crafted beautiful rabbits etc. I don't know where to buy these beautiful things.

Please help me, otherwise I will go and buy a light up drum or a colourful plastic train that plays 'I know a song that will get on your nerves' and the family will be ruined forever.

Try Scandiborn or Meri Meri. Bob and Blossom have nice things too.

Elpheba · 18/07/2022 18:40

Look at babipur- hundreds of lovely wooden toys, all very ethical etc.

PassesAtGlasses · 18/07/2022 18:40

A Grimms rainbow would fit the bill. Have a browse of Myriad toys or Babipur

How much do you want to spend?

Feedmeplease · 18/07/2022 18:50

I'm sorry but I would buy the Fisher price plastic tat for someone so pretentious.

At 1YO a child would be happy with a cardboard box.

I agree. A plastic toy and a Disney T shirt 😂

I got my almost 1YO this for Christmas and he loves it! Definitely has the longevity factor too since his 4YO sister even tries to ride it.

Go to Waterstones and buy the book with the nicest illustrations

Buttons294749 · 18/07/2022 19:04

Someone bought my DD a mason pearson personalised brush when she was tiny and i think of them every morning when i brush her hair. It's lovely.

MotherWol · 18/07/2022 19:07

One of the Grimms wooden toys would be really nice, maybe the stacking bowls or stacking house? Bit less ubiquitous than the rainbow. Or a bath toy - Plan Toys boat or Green Toys submarine.

RoseMartha · 18/07/2022 19:15

Waterstones had some wooden toys when I was browsing the other day.

Inmy40 · 18/07/2022 19:16

Nordi Baby. Online website for gorgeous wooden toys

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 18/07/2022 19:18

I got these wooden ice lollies for DD when she was about that age - she played with them for at least 5 years - hugely successful present:

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 18/07/2022 19:19

I'm still tempted by this one

No?

Buy a kazoo, kids love them, parents hate them. Fun!

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 18/07/2022 19:21

In all seriousness, thank you all - loads of fab ideas. Planning on spending about £35 so might have to go in with one of the other brothers but v tempted by the ride on panda.

Personalised name puzzle e.g.

www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1049385849/wooden-name-puzzle-personalized-gifts?click_key=a5716b7e6ce0359516843cbd61625c894b55ff6f%3A1049385849&click_sum=d93043cb&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=personalised+name+puzzle&ref=sc_gallery-1-8&pro=1&frs=1

Sorry for horrendous long link - It's basically Etsy.com and search "personalised name puzzle"

Look for large letter pieces for safety from swallowing/choking

TakeMeToYourLiar · 18/07/2022 19:36

Grimms friends in cups. My DD is 18 months plays every day with them

TabithaTittlemouse · 18/07/2022 19:44

I would buy a book. Something classic like Peter Pan or the jungle book will always be treasured. Liberty do some lovely illustrated hard backs for £20.

MsSquiz · 18/07/2022 19:58

Melissa and Doug do lovely wooden toys that go down well with most children and they not crazy expensive.

There's also Le Toy Van - they do a great box on building blocks

Little Dutch are another lovely brand too

110APiccadilly · 18/07/2022 20:09

DD was given a Little Dutch Noah's Ark for her first birthday and loves it - it's like loads of toys in one for her because of all the animals. I think it would fit the sort of thing you're looking for.

PancakesWithCheese · 18/07/2022 20:12

The Grimms rainbow is great. My DC still like to build things with it.

Why be so spiteful? It’s like people on wedding threads who say they’d purposely buy the couple an engraved cheeseboard if the couple wanted a donation to their honeymoon.

Dont you like your friends and family? Why go out the way to be so mean to them?

in answer to your question OP, liewood is lovely

Some people have the kind of relationship where that can do things like that and the other person isn't offended though.
I like to remind my very dear sister across the sea of Lego and mini brands of the only wooden toys rule she had during her first pregnancy.
