Posh-ish present ideas for one year old niece, please

My brother and his wife like lovely things so I'm looking for recommendations for a lovely present for my little niece for her first birthday. Think along the lines of natural wood, grey felt, design-led Skandi toys that encourage creativity, hand-crafted beautiful rabbits etc. I don't know where to buy these beautiful things.

Please help me, otherwise I will go and buy a light up drum or a colourful plastic train that plays 'I know a song that will get on your nerves' and the family will be ruined forever.

Brought a couple of things from this website as they have a pretty good sale at the moment. Love the wooden animals

Something from the White Company or P.O.P.

Melissa and Doug wooden cupcake set (Amazon). My DD was given it as a toddler and it is still a firm favourite 5 years later!

Meilag collectibles are very sweet! My daughter has been gifted several but will keep them safe on display until old enough to play with

Plan Toys do lovely things. Or pretty much anything from Fairkind Child. They do lots of lovely wooden toys of this kind of vibe.

Personally I'd avoid cuddly toys as many little ones aren't into them until much later.

Kids concept
They do a lovely pull along mammoth which we are getting for my nephew's 1st birthday next month. They also do a lovely rocking mammoth but it's out of our price range.

If mammoth's aren't your thing I think they also do a dog and a donkey

Grimm's rainbows are also quite a popular gift.

Also check out indigo jamm and the website kindly

Oli Ella if you wanted to go down the doll route, dinkum dolls are lovely (as are Rubens barn soft dolls) and also check out Olli Ella for luggys

Kidly not kindly

I discovered Smallable last Christmas and everything isn't too garish (and it is the fanciest catalogue I've ever seen). Got a kid's pushchair in a lovely shade of green with a parrot print.

I also like Mulberry Bush for some lovely toys.

You need Moulin Roty shadow puppets. Lovely French brand, open ended imaginative play, assumes parental engagement at bedtime 😉

What about something like this

Or similar from same site. My kids have been gifted beautiful things from there and I have used it for others

I found so many lovely things through this thread - have ordered and have also passed the links to all the other brothers so baby niece should be awash with lovely presents.

Huge thank yous all round - I wouldn't have known where to start. You can all say you played your part in saving my DB and DSIL from the musical train and know you did a good and noble thing.

Why be so spiteful? It’s like people on wedding threads who say they’d purposely buy the couple an engraved cheeseboard if the couple wanted a donation to their honeymoon.

Dont you like your friends and family? Why go out the way to be so mean to them?

Some people have the kind of relationship where that can do things like that and the other person isn't offended though.
I like to remind my very dear sister across the sea of Lego and mini brands of the only wooden toys rule she had during her first pregnancy.

That's not really the same as buying someone something specifically to annoy parents you think are pretentious. That isn't good humoured joshing. That's putting them in their place because you know best.

Buy the drum, it’s educational (we have a full kit, whole family plays, I’m particularly terrible)
