Chub rub shorts - worth it?

I really want to wear more dresses over the summer but am limited how long I can wear them for before the top of my thighs get a rash. I keep looking at the shorts but that somewhat defeats the point of a dress to keep you cool.
Are they any good? Or could a pair of cut down tights do the same?

Old pair of leggings cut to size does the same also.

NCTDN · 16/07/2022 22:38

But surely they'll be even warmer?

I use cut down tights. Works for me.

Primark cycling shorts, £2.50 a pair and really don't make you overheat at all, plus quite short compared to other cycling shorts which seem to come to almost knee length.

Classica · 16/07/2022 22:40

Definitely worth it to avoid sore thighs but I wouldn't use cut down tights as they'd be all clingy and polyestery. Looking for something cotton instead.

Peckhampalace · 16/07/2022 22:41

I bought some Snag ones this year and they are great, cooler and more comfortable than I expected, no hint of rub and nice colours. I feel better in a dress because of them.

BobMortimersPocketMeat · 16/07/2022 22:41

Sloggi do long-leg pants in their usual cool, comfy cotton, which I have finally succumbed to after years of balancing off hot charts against the pain of the chub rub. They are working great so far! But this week will really be the test.

Back in dark ages before chub rub shorts
, I used to use talc and deodorant. I have read on here that people now use liquid talc and/ or chub rub stick.

TuftyMarmoset · 16/07/2022 22:41

I mentioned this on another thread recently but I have the M&S cooling shorts and they are lovely and cooking to put on. The cooling effect wears off but I don’t find they make me hotter. They’ve got a band around the bottom of the leg to stop them riding up which I suspect tights would do.

Pwincessb · 16/07/2022 22:41

I have a couple of pairs from snag - they are a revelation!! Keep you cooler too. Can't recommend them enough

Cactuslockdown · 16/07/2022 22:42

Yes! I have cycling shorts too but the chub rub shorts are cooler to wear and dresses don’t seem to cling to them as much so they look better too

Poppiesway1 · 16/07/2022 22:43

So so so worth it!!! They are one of those things that have changed my life.. I now wear dresses and dont feel sweaty and horrid like I did in capri pants or jeggings etc

sanityisamyth · 16/07/2022 22:44

Snag chub rub shorts are amazing.

Pashazade · 16/07/2022 22:45

I do like my pair from Snag and M&S do some too. Totally worth it, I find cotton ones too thick. Oh and Lanacane anti-chafing gel is your friend, I've been finding my linen trousers are rubbing a little and a thin layer of that works a treat!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 16/07/2022 22:45

Emollient does a good job if you don't have any shorts or purpose designed stuff, as the idea is to stop the skin sticking and rubbing.

I normally use gym shorts, as they're designed to be cool and tend to have more support around the abdomen - makes them multipurpose, too, therefore saving money.

Afterfire · 16/07/2022 22:46

These are the best one I’ve ever had - so comfy and although they’re basically tights material they don’t feel hot. I size up in them so they’re not tight (I’m an 18/20 and go for a 22ish sizing wise) and I bung them in the washing machine and they come out super soft -

I used cut off tights to start with and they worked but after a few wears they kept laddering and riding up so invested in some from snag. Had them about 5 years now and they are still like new.

cecinestpasunepipe · 16/07/2022 23:07

Agree with those who like the Snag ones. I thought they would be hot, but they are great, and really comfy to wear.

TigerDroveAgain · 16/07/2022 23:10

I’ve used cut down tights, I think they were m and s body sensor or something. But they worked pretty well in an emergency!

aliasname · 16/07/2022 23:14

Another vote for Snags

AllFreeOwls · 16/07/2022 23:16

Definitely worth it. I prefer shorties from Lady B Loves over Snag ones tho, much nicer.

chipsandpeas · 16/07/2022 23:17

i use primark cycling shorts as chub rubs - cant say i find them especially warm

chiffchaffchiff · 16/07/2022 23:28

Definitely worth it. I get chub rub by the early afternoon without them. I've been wearing the snag ones under dresses for a week and have no issues.

PepsiMaxandPringleStacks · 16/07/2022 23:41

I just have cycling shorts from dunnes/primark/shein etc does the same thing

Thebeastofsleep · 16/07/2022 23:43

I love my sloggi long leg cotton ones. Not sweaty at all.

Don't like my snag ones, very sweaty.
