If you don't say "thank you" when let out in traffic, why is that?

Following on from my last hot topic "if you don't return your trolley at the supermarket, why is that?", this is today's pondering.

I always raise my hand or bip/bop my indicators to say "thank you" but I'd say 50% of the time I let someone out, they don't acknowledge this in anyway.

What are the reasons?

  • distracted by a child?

  • never taught to do so?

  • just an arrogant twat?

  • something else?

Its good manners to say thankyou in the UK, but ive not noticed it much on the continent. I think we are very into lots of little sorrys and thankyous and its quite nice.

If someone doesnt give me a friendly thankyou wave or flash their lights to acknowledge ive let them out, then the only thing for it is to aggressively tailgate them and ram them.
Failing that, get their registration and report them for dangerous driving a stolen vehicle.

It's a brief wave. Blink and you miss it.

I rarely accept an offer of being let out in traffic, after pulling out on someone who had waved me out, only to be hit by the driver behind them who had overtaken the person who had stopped to let me out.
quite often I don't say thank you , im more thinking "just get out of my way so i can see the road behind you and make my own decision whether its safe to pull out ".
I'm trying to concentrate on the traffic / looking out for other cars / maneuvering with two hands on the wheel. I'll pull out when I decide its safe to do so , not some random who thinks they're doing me a favour.
