Are you my fabric tape measure? If so, where are you?

Where are you hiding? What did I do with you?

You're not in the usual kitchen junk drawer. I live alone.

Clues? Suggestions?

i have hidden with the 20 fabric tape measure that Ponderwindow has lost in her own house. We have our own secret portals to another dimension you see. We hide in our dimension to force you to keep buying fabric tape measures to liberate our brothers and sisters from the shops.

Mine is usually in the pocket of something from when I've gone to measure something. I lost one in my coat pocket for 6 months once.

The one thing in my house I CANNOT keep control of is my fabric tape measures (ihave about 5 now). They are never where I think they should be (in the sewing box) and I spent more frustrating time trying to find them than all other household items combined. Slippery, slippery, buggers.

What IS it about them? I hardly ever use mine – everything else in my house is in its place... why not this?!

What were you using it for the last time you know you had it? If you were measuring for curtains, it might be on the top of a wardrobe.

Kitchen cupboard, the one next to the hob, where all the 'important but don't know where the proper home for it' go. Try there.

It's in the sewing kit but wrapped up in a giant knot of ribbon bits and unravelled knotted cotton.

The other place is in the junk drawer in the sideboard where everyone chucks their hair bobbles, brushes, hair bands, Bobby pins and for some reason, wax melts they don't like the smell of but now the whole sideboard stinks.

I don't know where your fabric tape measure is but I have solved my things like that which I lose by having enough then that I never have to move one outside the room in which it lives. E.g. i have scissors in the kitchen, spare room, living room and dining room. I have a tiny pot of sewing stuff in all of, my bedroom, the study (where the main collection lives) and the sitting room. Random things I've moved (thread for mending etc) can then be deposited immediately reducing the likelihood of loss. I have a tape measure in each place. I'm incredibly disorganised this is the only thing I've found that works.

I had to extract one to put it ins holiday bag to check the size of my carry on luggage, could it be somewhere like that?

When you do eventually find it in some hidey-hole, please can you check to see if there also a Playmobil character with a blue top and black trousers there too? It's been missing for 20 years, but you never know... 😂

Probably in hiding with every single member of the multipack that I bought to solve the problem of never being able to find a tape measure when I needed one. And I still can't.

Can't be arsed to RTFT but mine always ends up in a jewellery dish on my bedside/dressing table from measuring for bras or clothes.

I absolutely do not believe this.

I have checked the drawer in my bedside table 20 times. I was sure that was where I'd have put it, so I looked and looked again...

This morning I open the drawer to get out my glasses case, and what do I grab?

The flipping tape measure. Unfortunately no playmobil fella, @takeitandleaveit, but do check the place you already knew it was and have checked 20 times already - it seems that's where things end up!

Unbelievable... 😂

The ONLY fabric tape measure I've never lost is the one I "inherited" from my late grandma - 15 years ago.

It's stretched and melted at the 29/30in mark (I wish that was my waist!) but I loath to be rid of it for some reason
