Well if you won't use a tampon or a cup, then yes - you can't go in the pool with a pad on or bleeding freely into the water

Hugasauras · 15/07/2022 09:52

Find somewhere that stocks period swimwear?

FindingANewLifePlan · 15/07/2022 09:53

Period swimming costume is your only option I think.

itsgettingweird · 15/07/2022 09:56

How heavy are you if it's just started?

Day 1 for me was usually only on wiping so should be ok for a few hours?

If not you need to either find somewhere with period swimwear (unlikely I'd have thought?) or try and use internal san pro.

I do feel for you though. Mine were so heavy even a tampon lasted 20 minutes and it would have miserable having a period on holiday.

ETgo · 15/07/2022 09:58

Amazon delivery of period swimwear to your hotel? Obviously not any help for today but if you plan on going back to the water park.

EV117 · 15/07/2022 09:58

For the future - contraceptive pills? Doesn’t work for everyone but one of the best things about them for me is I can take the packs back to back when I want and so plan my period. Never had to to deal with periods on holiday.

Laliga518 · 15/07/2022 09:59

I am peri menopausal so absolutely no rhythm to when I get them 😥tbh bleed just before I came on holiday so thought I would be okay as only away for 10 days 🤷‍♀️

Yea mini pill when peri is a godsend. It'll also regulate your cycle and you can take them back to back.

A lot of people say it reduces pre bloating and pain too.

Are you suggesting that if there is blood 'only on wiping' that swimming in a pool with other people is okay? Yuck! Or have I misunderstood?

CallOnMe · 15/07/2022 10:23

Can you not get some tampons and wear them just whilst you’re in the water?

They do sell period swimwear (not tried them myself) but I doubt you’ll get any at short notice whereas most shops sell tampons.

Laliga518 · 15/07/2022 10:25

I used to wear tampons no problem until after the birth of my second child with bad tearing none seem to fit comfortably I always seem to be able to feel them 🤦‍♀️

I don’t see what’s so funny about it - it works for some and for others it doesn’t. Just because it didn’t work for you doesn’t mean someone else trying it out is laugh out loud suggestion.

PandaOrLion · 15/07/2022 11:16

Ibroprofen always stops mine on the first day or so - can you get hold of that? Is it just today at the water park or the whole holiday?

if it’s just a comfort thing I’d be getting tampons to use but obv doesn’t work if you medically can’t use them

CrowsEverywhere · 15/07/2022 11:17

You could ask for tranxemic acid otc at a pharmacy to reduce the flow. Also would suggest trying small tampax as it would allow you to go to the water park and have fun then wear a pad the rest of the day.

girlmom21 · 15/07/2022 11:20

I'd try the smallest size tampons if your flow is heavy enough. It's shit timing!

Is that a known thing for Ibuprofen? I've never heard this before.

maddy68 · 15/07/2022 11:25

Get some tampons. Even if you find they are uncomfortable it's only for a short time

Jellycatspyjamas · 15/07/2022 11:36

Ibuprofen definitely slows down your period, something clever to do with prostaglandin. I’ve always used it to lighten heavy periods.

GetThatHelmetOn · 15/07/2022 11:40

Tranxemic acid tablets really help to reduce the blood flow.

And also, don’t sunbathe, the hotter you feel, the heavier that you will bleed so keep in the shadow and avoid the heat as much as possible and hot showers.

Personally, if your flow is not heavy, I would suggest using your regular pads, and just take them off, have a shower and go straight into the pool for a short period. (I mostly swim in the sea but I am sure nobody will notice a few drops of blood dissolved in the water (not much different than babies weeing in the pool, the disinfectant in the water would take care of it and no, babies swim nappies don’t hold the wee, they just prevent poos from floating around)

Well exactly.

I suggested it despite bleeding every day for 9 months on it and getting heavier and heavier.

This is because it's recommended and does have a success for many - and it turns out I had adenomyosis so that was my issue!!!

I had a hysterectomy 2 weeks ago so I'll have a surgical menopause in next few years as my ovaries stop working.

Like many recommend the coil during menopause it's not exactly an option for me! Doesn't make it a stupid one.

Some people just can't help being rude. Thanks for standing up for my post. Flowers

Tampon pearls are really good if you haven't tried them?

You could always try a lower absorption than than usually go for and just wear it short term to swim?

TiddyTidTwo · 15/07/2022 11:56

I didn't know that about ibuprofen!

SuperCamp · 15/07/2022 11:57

I would use Lil lets and put up with being able to feel it while you are in the park.

Use some water soluble lube on the tip and push far in.

adriftabroad · 15/07/2022 12:07

My DD is Spanish. All her friends use pads to swim 😯(she doesnt)

They are 14 though, so not like a perimenopausal woman.

Get thee to the nearest Mercadona and get some protection of some kind (there are swim pads in Spain) also Tampax. They also sell mooncups.
