What if OP miscalculated and has a sudden gush?

Go on, what’s the consequences?

You could ask for tranxemic acid otc at a pharmacy to reduce the flow. Also would suggest trying small tampax as it would allow you to go to the water park and have fun then wear a pad the rest of the day.

You can’t get Tranexamic acid otc in Spain (or UK for that matter).

@Scalottia you do realise that even with a tampon, an exchange of fluids will happen anyways? You just can't see it.

Well if it were me, with the heaviness of how my periods used to be - a massive 'cloud' of blood and possibly some clots.

To the distress of all I should imagine.

Kerrrmieee · 16/07/2022 23:23

Would you want to take a gob full of clot?
Thought not.

Yes, I do realise this but at least it is mitigated somewhat, unlike the people who swim with no protection because it is just a little bit of blood. Until it isn't. And no, I don't want to see a clot floating by, or a chunk of shit, or anything like this.

I used to wear tampons no problem until after the birth of my second child with bad tearing none seem to fit comfortably I always seem to be able to feel them 🤦‍♀️

I think I'd try and go with using a tampon, even if you can feel it, as least that way you can go swimming.

Tranxemic acid tablets really help to reduce the blood flow.

And also, don’t sunbathe, the hotter you feel, the heavier that you will bleed so keep in the shadow and avoid the heat as much as possible and hot showers.

Personally, if your flow is not heavy, I would suggest using your regular pads, and just take them off, have a shower and go straight into the pool for a short period. (I mostly swim in the sea but I am sure nobody will notice a few drops of blood dissolved in the water (not much different than babies weeing in the pool, the disinfectant in the water would take care of it and no, babies swim nappies don’t hold the wee, they just prevent poos from floating around)

This is not acceptable.

With its usual poor timing, mine arrived this month just as I was touring the forum in Rome. The one loo block had no loo seat so I had to sit down on the (wet) seat and, worse still, no paper so I had to fish used toilet tissue out of the bin to use. Totally gross.

Mine are very heavy - at its worst, I'm changing the super (red) tampax every hour. I don't think I could manage any other way but tranexamic acid is also a life saver. Just one or two stems the flow to a manageable level. The poster is right though, the first time you see a clot is quite grim.

You used toilet paper that someone else had used?

Rainbowshit · 17/07/2022 09:31

I think you'll just have to put up with the discomfort of a tampon.

brown543 · 17/07/2022 17:03

I picked the one that looked a bit grubby rather than obviously used. I know, it's totally disgusting but what else can you do when there's only one loo block, no loo paper and you have no tissue on you.

As we all know, you can't hold it in like a wee, so waiting wasn't an option either. Just yuck, I still feel a bit icky ten showers later...

💐😔

Have you had a blood test and gum clinic check up etc? How long ago was this?

I'd have free bled and left to find supplies or gone back to my hotel.

CourtneeLuv · 17/07/2022 20:03

Fuck anyone that wanted to make an issue of any seepage.

brown543 · 18/07/2022 07:09

I was in the middle of a 3 hour guided tour of the colosseum anc forum with my family. I couldn't re-enter the site if I'd left. No matter how grim it was using the loo paper, I wasn't going to walk round with red shorts. That would have been mortifying.

Yes, I've had it checked out. I have an inefficient uterus (a phrase that only a gynae could use). I'm sure those of us blessed with the joy of heavy periods have sometimes had to improvise in a less than ideal way.

Thats still likely used toilet paper. I just can’t fathom that. I would have even used my bra instead and stuffed that down there and gone braless until I got back to the hotel. If some used toilet paper is going to do the job then a bra will. Or could you not have asked your DH for his undies and balled them up and used those? So what if he had to freeball it under his shorts/jeans until he got back to the hotel, no biggie. Or maybe you or he was wearing socks that could have done the trick. I would have thought of anything and everything before using someone else’s used toilet paper for makeshift sanitary purposes.

That's just unpleasant really. Free bleeding, I mean. Noone wants to see that.

I am peri menopausal so absolutely no rhythm to when I get them 😥tbh bleed just before I came on holiday so thought I would be okay as only away for 10 days 🤷‍♀️

Cyclical hrt will mean you can control when your periods are.

If my only choices were to use used toilet paper or free bleed, I really wouldn't give a fuck what people want to see.

BigBadBoom · 18/07/2022 21:27

@bashfulclam I FINALLY (43yo now) found out a few years ago (when having a smear) that I have a low cervix, and this is why I can always feel tampons and why they're so uncomfortable. It would be so useful if this possibility was publicised, rather than women spending years thinking they're doing something wrong. So glad to know I'm not a massive weirdo 🙄
