I had zopiclon when DM was dying, it was helpful. Non addictive and you don't feel like there's a sheep in your head in the morning like you do with antihistamines.

Zopiclone is absolutely NOT "non-addictive".

I have but they don’t tend to work for middle of night waking. Only really for help initially falling asleep. You might be better off with a fast acting anxiety medication to help you relax and so fall back asleep after a middle of night waking like clonazepam. Clonazepam is addictive though so it wouldn’t be taken every day but you’d get an allowance per month to use as needed.

JolieJ · 15/07/2022 09:01

Sometimes I take Nytol and it helps me get a good night sleep! The one from behind the counter, I think the boots version is called Sleepeaze!

NoNotHimTheOtherOne · 15/07/2022 09:35

The drug in Nytol and Sleepeaze is diphenhydramine, a sedating antihistamine. It has quite a long duration of action, so you might still be drowsy the next morning. It's illegal to drive while under the influence of any sedating drugs. (Although it's also illegal to drive while drowsy as a result of not having been able to sleep.)

Also, be aware that antihistamines interact with alcohol. Not in a lethal way like benzodiazepines or Z-drugs, but in a way that severely impairs your cognition and coordination.

I have when having chemo and again when perimenopausal and not realising. They very sadly didn’t work for me at all. My HRT sorts me out most of the time now, but what I found helpful (and still do if I’m in a bad patch): pukka night time tea in the purple box half an hour before bed, electrolyte supplements (including enough magnesium), CBD sleep drops (particularly helpful for that middle of night waking). I don’t always sleep but I don’t have a racing panicked mind if I wake or can’t drop off so I am resting. Good luck, it’s shit when you have insomnia.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 15/07/2022 09:40

Oh, JS health also do some anxiety and stress supplements, might be with a try.

stratforduponavon · 15/07/2022 09:41

I think the over counter medication is a load of rubbish (for me!). If it really worked the way they are saying there is no way any old person can buy it. Its a bit like serums, expensive face creams etc. If they really really worked we wouldnt be able to buy them the way we do being served by someone who perhaps the day before was working in your local pub - yes - that happened to me.

I have used zopiclone as I used it for sleeping away from home. It does work but I wouldnt want to use it all the time but fully understand people feel they cannot do without it.

I find it works best to get you over a period of no sleeping.

Having said that a good beauty consultant makes you feel like a VIP.

RebeccaCloud9 · 15/07/2022 09:55

You may as well try over the counter stuff. I sometimes use own brand sleep eaze 2 a night and just use 1. They work brilliantly for me, I get straight to sleep and wake up feeling well rested. That is for when I just want a really good night's sleep, not for severe insomnia. But they work for me.

nonevernomore · 15/07/2022 10:52

Nytol works for me - helps me to fall asleep

TheOrigRights · 15/07/2022 11:54

I have taken zopiclone now and again.
As well as giving me a good long sleep, I feel it helped to re-set my pattern of sleep, which I feel is a bigger long term benefit.
I seem to be very receptive to the active ingredient and being a lone parent don't like being in too deep a sleep so have only taken them now and again.

I have taken zopiclone. It helps to re-set your pattern of sleep. For me they give me the promise that when I wake up I know I will go back to sleep quickly. Even half a tab does the job.

OhMerde · 20/08/2022 07:26

How old are you op? Waking up with a racing heart and an anxious feeling can be a symptom of menopause.
I've used zopiclon too in the past. I used to bloody love it. I'd get in to bed at about 8pm, read for 10 minutes and then feel myself slipping under in the most blissful way. You can't fight it....you just drift straight off and sleep like a brick for hours!!! They are addictive though, so only for short term use. They helped me in that they almost taught my body how to fall asleep again when I had a terrible patch of insomnia. I also used them when my mum died to just check out of the world for a while.

TheCornishmaid · 20/08/2022 07:36

CBD oil 100%. it will slow down your racing heart and relax you back into sleep without feeling groggy in the morning just start off with a couple ld drops and go from there. Good stuff and i hate recreational cannabis.

angstridden2 · 20/08/2022 08:36

I take Zopiclone very occasionally when I’m really struggling to sleep.I take half a tablet and have had them prescribed for many years. I probably take 6 over a year so I’m certainly not addicted. They give me a good night’s sleep and I’m fine next morning apart from a slight metallic taste. They do taste vile!

ChagSameachDoreen · 20/08/2022 08:53

I had zopiclone for a couple of weeks when my partner died. It was the only thing that gave me any rest.

Thisbastardcomputer · 20/08/2022 09:13

I was on zoplicone for 8 years after a severe breakdown, I was terrified of coming off it but did. I'm not a great sleeper and never have been.

I have rheumatoid arthritis and am prescribed co codamol, two of these at bedtime and a couple of dozy bears from Amazon do the trick.

I take zopiclone 2-3 times a month and have done for years Am definitely not addicted ; it just resets my sleep. Definitely preferable to antihistamine which makes me feel hungover!

newtb · 22/08/2022 14:53

With diazepam I can stay awake 96hrs and more. Melatonin I found helpful.

disconnecteddrifter · 22/08/2022 15:31

Zopiclone used to work for me but I feel very tired thr day after and hsve rebound insomnia. Nytol really does the trick but I do feel groggy the day after. Try things, see what works for you

tillytoodles1 · 22/08/2022 15:40

I broke my leg while I was in Turkey and was given Tramadol. I went out like a light and slept for eight hours solid, then woke up feeling great. I only took them for three nights though as I was frightened I may get addicted to them.

Duettino · 22/08/2022 17:06

Order melatonin from America or see if you can get a prescription for a short term. I use it when I can't sleep and it works like a charm.
