Does anyone have any experience of them?

Bump for the evening crowd.

I was out off Bengals from mumsent and these seem similar but wow so beautiful. Some kittens are available.

Very very high maintenance, wouldn't suggest them for a young family. More like a puppy than a cat which is fun but also very tiring. The become very bonded too ime.

Reallyreallyborednow · 14/07/2022 22:02

Honestly don’t buy a cat for it’s looks. You usually have to sign contracts about not letting them out etc- if they get stressy it can be a nightmare.

siamese, bengal etc are very high needs, you really need to know what you’re getting into.

find a local charity and get matched up with a cat that suits your family set up.

Thank you;

I saw them and they are a cross,bowled over by their beauty;
However a quick Google seemed to group them with the mumsent fabled ....Bengal.

Any ideas on British short hair? Whichever breed I'm also looking for a cross.

Although I did read they are so clever and can do tricks like a dog so I thought that would also be two birds with one stone.

Are you sure you're cut out for an animal that will require a lifelong commitment?

They can play fetch with a ball but honestly they rule the househhold and I don't say that lightly, EVERYTHING revolves round the cat. We're at home in the day which is a good job as I don't think it would work working outside the home. I cannot stress enough how demanding they are. Utterly beautiful but you won't be saying that when it wakes you up at 4am for a bit of a chat.

GroinPain · 14/07/2022 23:47

Vet nurse for 15 years ...they're beautiful, but wild and a nightmare in my experience! Don't do it

bigspoonlittlespoon · 15/07/2022 00:06

Just get a nice friendly moggy. Not inbred and stupid, you can let it out and will still be street smart. Breeds are high maintenance

Gingernaut · 15/07/2022 00:14

Just get a rescue mog.

They come with their own personalities and quirks and, as long as you don't get a long haired type, require little grooming.

You only need a mog, scratching post, some toys, a commitment to care for the next 10 to 15 years, a good budget for food, flea and worm treatments and decent insurance.

Pedigree cats will require far more

My son had one and she was very vocal. Very clever too and once locked him out of his own bedroom. Not sure how but probably jumped at door with key in and managed to lock door. We had to find spare to get him in. Cat was in there looking very smug. Sadly she escaped and we never found her. She was an awesome hunter and often caught frogs, pigeons, mice. We had a cat proofed garden so she could play on back garden but not get out. She escaped through front door and I think she was stolen because 2 maincoon went missing from a neighbour on the same day. She was very beautiful but had a lovely curious personality.

PaperTyger · 15/07/2022 00:58

@GroinPain

What about British short hair?

I'm going for a cross breed but as our probably only treasured pet I want a breed cross that's v good and loving with children.

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

One owns you!!.
Oh wow!
So beautiful I've never even heard of the breed untill today!

@PaperTyger BSH are nice, one of my favourites is a Burmese though, they are like dogs! Very vocal but sweet :)

Lulumo · 15/07/2022 06:02

Burmese or Tonkinese both v dog like. One of my Tonks plays fetch but the other is just a v normal cat but incredibly vocal - she walks and talks which get a little annoying at times!

‘I want a breed cross that's v good and loving with children.‘

You can’t guarantee this with a cat.

Have you met a cat?

Misty999 · 15/07/2022 07:07

British blue short hair Lovely cats very sociable love people.

I’m an experienced cat owner though I’ve only ever had moggies. I can guarantee you cannot know what personality your cat will have, although compared to my friends beautiful highly strung pedigree cats, my mogs are fun, friendly and relaxed.
Have you owned a cat before? If not, a pedigree may not the best place to start.

PaperTyger · 15/07/2022 07:22

Yes I had two cats when younger.

I know some cats can be stand off.

An actual breed has characteristics.

So easier to pin down .

coffeecupsandfairylights · 15/07/2022 07:22

Why not just get a pair of bonded rescue kittens?

Pedigree cats are generally extremely expensive and they all seem to come with issues - be that digestive problems, breathing problems or highly demanding, sensitive personalities that mean they're highly strung and needy.

Cats in general are pretty aloof and are not the pets to get if you want an animal that will play with your kids.

We have these. They are very skittish and terrified of people. 🤷‍♀️

PaperTyger · 15/07/2022 07:30

Apparently much of it is how they were handled as kitten's!

I'm going for a cross of breeds not a pure breed,not that it's anyone business!

I would usually go for rescue but I know they make you jump through hoops... rightly! I just want a cat at this stage and not the Spanish inquisition.

OP your posts sounds so naive - about looks and supposed characteristics, but every cat is different. Honestly you would be better off with a moggie or sibling moggies.

Where are all these 'cross breeds' of BSH, Egyptian Mau and Bengal? From a 'back yard breeder'?
