How long do you keep water in your paddling pool?

Just that really.

How many days do you keep it in before it needs emptying and refilling?

Keeps going green. Have ordered some chlorine tabs 😬

ManipulativeBullying · 13/07/2022 12:46

Just one day as it can be slimy from suncream so we refresh daily

Whydotheyallhaverubbishwheels · 13/07/2022 12:55

If you use chlorine tablets, cover it up when not in use and use a net to clean it it can last a good few days. Were on day 4 and still going strong.

2 days.
it’s only a small toddler sized thing. Any longer and the grass underneath starts dying off. So I empty water onto plants, and then refill the next day in a different space if it’s warm still

Fuwari · 13/07/2022 13:03

I'm having this dilemma at the moment as ours is large (1.5m x 2.2m) and takes forever to fill! No small DC. It;'s just for the adults to lounge in. We're not likely to ingest any of the water but not sure if you can still get ill from sitting in "old" water.

I filled mine Sunday and am emptying/cleaning it tomorrow, also have a cover.

LR51021 · 13/07/2022 13:07

Change it daily.

Yodaisawally · 13/07/2022 13:09

Ours is huge, it can last 4 or 5 days. Sometime drain a bit off and top up. It's got a cover and we scoop out anything that's in there. It would be a complete waste to change it more.

WingBingo · 13/07/2022 13:18

we used to use chlorine tablets in our fairly large paddling pool. We had a cover too.

keep everyone covered in rash vests that offer uv protection as sun cream can affect the water.

this means you don’t need to change the water often. Get a net to keep grass/bugs/hair out too.

Ours is for the grandchildren, and is 10ft across. One year, it was filled up and the water was kept in for 3 days - then a squirrel was found (drowned) in it one morning. It saddened me so much. We've got a cover for it for this weekend.

Hmmm interesting thanks.

Ours is big and so I don't want to waste loads of water by constantly refilling. But also don't want the water getting yukky

How do you know how much chlorine to use??

We did the same, for quite a large paddling pool. The water all went on the garden so wasn't completely wasted and the lawn under it wasn't harmed. It wasn't that often we'd want it out for more than a couple of days in a row anyway.

Bunty55 · 13/07/2022 16:41

I empty it and water the flowers/garden with it. It is only a small one for a toddler

Bunty55 · 13/07/2022 16:42

Sorry meant to say empty every time is used.

It is done by water volume, so you need to calculate that, and then the instructions on the pack will tell you how much to use.

GoAround · 13/07/2022 16:54

It’s only toddler sized but empty it daily, reusing the water on the plants. I know it’s grim but the 18MO isn’t potty trained and swim nappies aren’t properly absorbent so there’s probably a lot of wee in it by the end of the day. Chlorine is a great shout for bigger pools though!

IglesiasPiggl · 13/07/2022 16:57

I empty mine every night because it is an inflatable one and we have foxes that puncture any kind of inflatable we leave out overnight. But the lawn gets the benefit!

onelittlefrog · 13/07/2022 16:58

As long as possible - try to cover it over and use chlorine tablets as people have recommended.

There is going to be a water crisis in the next few years, especially in the South East (google it). We are trying not to waste water when we don't need to.

JasmineVioletRose · 13/07/2022 17:11

Will the chlorine tabs mean we can't use it on the garden?

sarahc336 · 13/07/2022 17:12

Probably 2/3 days as it always gets dead flies in and loads of bits of grass etc we use it to water the flowers so don't feel too bad to re fill x

sarahc336 · 13/07/2022 17:12

Should add it's only a tiny one though so we can re fill quite a bit and not use too much water x

PancakesWithCheese · 13/07/2022 17:39

Just changed ours after two days, it was full of grass and the water has gone a bit green. I used it to water the plants and have just refilled it for later.

OhmygodDont · 13/07/2022 17:40

Ours has been up since April. Only emptied once and that was because we bugged up the chemical/filter times.

SpiderVersed · 13/07/2022 17:44

3-4 days, and I mop it on Day 3 so the base isn’t very slippery. At least half gets scooped out in watering cans and used on the veg patch.

B1rd · 13/07/2022 17:49

All summer! We have a 10ft pool with chlorine tablets and filter. The chlorine tablets go into a floating chlorine dispenser and I usually add 3 at a time. The dispenser is removed before my DD gets in. It doesn't affect the garden because it's not strong enough to.
If it does go green, then you can chlorine shock treatment.

Caspianberg · 13/07/2022 17:58

Yes I wouldn’t want to add chlorine as a) toddler drinks it b) we put on fruit and veg plants that we then eat, so we keep everything organic as possible

just emptied our little one onto vegetables and topped up bird bath and bowls for wildlife. So no waste water
