How much are your energy bills?

Just that really - I'm interested to know how ours stack up as I suspect they are horrifically large.
How much are your energy bills? Are they separate or combined? How many people in your house and what is your house like?

Forgot to clarify - 6 people and a dog in an average sized 5 bedroom house. The 5th bedroom just about fits a single bed and chest of drawers, our square footage isn't huge by any means (I know people hear 5 bedroom and assume detached semi-mansion, it really isn't. It's a slightly extended bog standard 3 bed semi).

Isn’t a better question “how many kWh of gas and electric are you using each month” because everyone is going to be on different tariffs?

For instance, we use 225 kWh of electricity each month which is costing us £48 per month on our deal, but would cost £75 per month on SVR?

ImFree2doasiwant · 13/07/2022 10:20

My DD us £63 a month up from £38. Electric only, oil CH. 2 bed end terrace, victorian large rooms, high vceinlings , draughty. 1 adult, 2 small dc. I know its not a lot compared to some but the oil costs are going to cripple me.

Less than £20 gas and approx £70 electric. Family of 5, I am a SAHM, one preschooler so around a bit during the day. Other 2 at school, husband works out of the home. 3 bed semi 1930's property. Still paying £360 a month due to underpayment earlier in the year but now £400+ in credit. Funnily enough can't get through to reduce my payments. It's like they just want my money 🤔

BMW6 · 13/07/2022 10:26

We've just paid the bills for used last month, submit readings every month and payments taken by dd following month.

Gas £15 Electric £49

2 of us in 2 bed Victorian terrace. British Gas. the gas used in cooking (gas hob), showers and standing charges as no CH on at all obvs. Tumble drier not used at all last month.

resuwen · 13/07/2022 10:41

KWPM seems to be roughly 3000 for gas, which seems like a very large number! We did have a tiny seeping gas leak from a newly installed appliance during that time, which has been identified and fixed - maybe that will make a difference. Electricity is roughly 450.

WFH so the house is never empty, which makes a difference!

I did tie in when martin money saver was telling us not too though. Got in with eon the day before all the fixed deals were pulled, pure luck, dreading when it ends

OliviaBond · 13/07/2022 10:52

Pkwio · 13/07/2022 11:26

£61 electric (key meter)

Bearsan · 13/07/2022 11:27

Large 2 bed just us two. £60 a month, went up to £80 then back, £100 in debit but reducing, submit reading every month. We have a burner for winter. Outfox the market.

cptartapp · 13/07/2022 11:33

Our electricity is £63 per month, four bed with two adults, two teens. We are also £160 credit. With Eon.
No gas. Oil top ups for the tank average £250 every three months although our last order was nearer to £600!

Ofgem average annual consumption figures are:

Low (flat or 1-bedroom house / 1-2 people)
Gas: 8,000 kWh Elec: 1,800 kWh

Medium (3-bedroom house / 2-3 people)
Gas: 12,000 kWh Elec: 2,900 kWh

High (5-bedroom house / 4-5 people)
Gas: 17,000 kWh Elec: 4,300 kWh

AlwaysLatte · 13/07/2022 11:33

About £400 a month but that's just electricity - we're on oil for central heating. No gas.

Gingermoth · 13/07/2022 11:37

My quarterly bill for both just came in at 160, expecting that to be around 250 for winter.

SweatyAndGrumpy · 13/07/2022 11:42

4 bed detached house, 3 adults, at least 2 home most days. Actual costs would currently average out at £240pm. Come this winter I am expecting price rises to make that £360pm.

3 times what they were a year ago in same house with same people.

LavenderfortheBees · 13/07/2022 11:45

3 bed ex council (relatively insulated) with double glazing and two adults. Combi boiler, electric shower and gas hob.

Used to pay £65 in the summer and £85 in the winter. Usage is currently between £95-108 a month but haven't had the heating on or used tumble drier. Paying £150 a month to build a buffer for winter.

Expecting winter to be harder but keep the house fairly cool anyway. Heating goes on for 17° for an hour in the morning and two hours in the evening. Have electric blanket and throw for the bed and sofa when it's freezing. Washing machine is on around three times a fortnight and will need to tumble bedding in the winter.

ThunderstomsAreComing · 13/07/2022 12:13

3 bed detached, mainly just me but a DS who is home in Uni holidays. Lots of electrical gizmos, electric heating in a small annex in winter (when it's being used).

Direct debit of £220 Gas £64 the rest Electric (smart meters) - this time last year it was £120.

NC1843 · 13/07/2022 12:27

2 bed (tiny) terrace, 3 people, gas CH, electric hob & cooker. £215 monthly combined direct debit.

I’ve done a bit of a back-of-the-ciggy-packet calculation this morning and I reckon over the next 12 months, our bill will be £3,300 so our direct debit needs to be about £275 a month so planning on trying to reduce our electric use as much as possible (gas usage doesn’t seem too high and we have underfloor heating downstairs which makes eff all difference to the temperature so tend not to bother with it). DH not leaving every light on in the house would be a start.

MerlinsButler · 13/07/2022 12:36

We are on pre-payment meters for both gas and electric so just the standard pre-payment rate. We pay £60 pw combined but that is mostly to build up a buffer. Actual costs vary slightly depending on who is home but actual use is about £6-10 pw Gas and circa £30 - £35 electric. 3 bed mid terrace with one bed as full time office / WFH. 3 adults in situ.

We do have lots of gadgets / comp equipment / gamers / fish tank etc and oven / hob is electric hence higher usage.

Asdf12345 · 13/07/2022 12:40

About £50 a month on electricity.

About 2000l of heating oil a year (varies from 15p to £1.20 a litre). We have a big tank and will top up when it’s relatively cheap and down to less than 1000l left in the tank.

About half a ton of coal a year.

BoJoGoGo · 13/07/2022 12:44

Modern largish 4 bedroom house with a solar panel, £190 for gas and electricity which includes charging an electric car.
4 adults, 2 retired, one adult works from home 4 days a week, one adult work from home 2 days a week.

PoleFairy · 13/07/2022 12:46

Gosh these seem low to me. 2 adults here in a 2 bed semi. We have a dishwasher and washing machine but no tumble dryer. One fridge / freezer. One TV we have on in the evenings. I wfh. Our DD is £290 for electricity and £54 for gas as of July

Robin233 · 13/07/2022 12:55

I was thinking same @PoleFairy
Just submitted reading and my actual bill averaged out for the year has gone up by £80 a month.
Are people just putting in summer readings?
Mine would be about £60 in summer and 300 for high winter.
