How much are your energy bills?

Just that really - I'm interested to know how ours stack up as I suspect they are horrifically large.
How much are your energy bills? Are they separate or combined? How many people in your house and what is your house like?

I've just checked, my account has had a reversal so I'm no longer in credit, and I'm on SV rate. There seems to be nowhere to switch to that offers a better rate at the moment!

Who is telling you that?
Is it for a fixed tariff?
Are you in debit or credit?

The SVR is the cheapest rate
Do you mean they've refunded your credit balance?

I think its daft that they refund a credit balance and then want you to increase the direct debit amount

resuwen · 13/07/2022 08:53

No, I think it's an additional charge to make up for estimated readings - no idea why as why have a smart meter. It's not very easy to decipher! I'm not questioning my own bill, I'll ring the supplier to go through it. Just wondering how it compares.

For an old 4 bed detached, 2 people, I'm paying £150 a month.

I'm hoping to limit the rise in the autumn by using our log burner as our main source of heat. I'm lucky to have a free supply of dry wood.

dementedpixie · 13/07/2022 09:02

@resuwen do you submit readings too? Doesn't sound like the smart meter is very smart if BG aren't using its readings

Onegingerhead · 13/07/2022 09:06

£82 DD, both gas and electricity, account is in credit. 3 bed semi, on SVR. We barely use the gas now, just daily showers for two of us.

We have a large house and have two adults and two older teens. We are currently averaging £180 on electricity (water and heating are oil). Our DDebit is £250 and we are being told to increase it to £720!!

Should have added we are currently £479 in credit too!

Mybeautifulfriend22 · 13/07/2022 09:07

So we are apparently low energy users in a 30s 3bed admit. Two people. Smart meter. Ovo account. Smart meter so all readings taken and correct.

Weve just come out of a two year fix and Ovo told us to up our DD to £90 from £80. The £80 monthly covered us year round and left us in credit too: last years bill was well under £600 for the year.

Weve upped it to £100 per month for now and will probably again in October. Julys online bill for usage so far is £30 for both. Heating has been off since April. No electric shower though I do have a bath 1/2 times a week, no consoles, a lap top and phone chargers, lights off until dark and only in the room that you are in. Washing 4x weekly and dryer for sheets and towels only. Heating is used for a few hours a day when winter but not constantly on and up to 19 degrees or twenty for a boost in freezing weather. .

Is that for a new fixed rate?
You're under no obligation to increase it especially if you're in credit. Which company is it?

Aposterhasnoname · 13/07/2022 09:20

Just had our DD raised to £180 a month, but last months usage was £100. Two adults, three bedroom leaky 30s semi, with one of us WFH half the week.

AchillesLastStand · 13/07/2022 09:26

@dementedpixie Yes I could ask them for some of it back but last month Bulb suggested we reduce our DD from to £267 to £240 which we said yes to. I don’t want them to suggest we have to up our DD in October when the tariffs go up because we don’t have enough credit on our account. I’m leaving the money there for the autumn/winter by that time with the government’s support money we will be around £1500 in credit. I’ll be shocked if we have that much in credit and they want to increase our DD.

FTMFML · 13/07/2022 09:28

4 bed detached bungalow- that is very open plan.
£300 at the moment.
Forecast for £500+ in 2023.

Parky04 · 13/07/2022 09:28

3 bed semi with 4 adults. £90 elec and £60 gas.

EcoCustard · 13/07/2022 09:28

We have just put our electricity direct debit up to £100. Currently using less but that’s because it’s summer. Fixed tariff with Eon next until April 2023. We don’t have gas.
heating and water is multi fuel stove in winter, logs cost approximately £60 pm depending on weather and we work a year ahead. Expect that to go up though. 4 bed 1950’s detached house, in exposed rural location. 2 adults & 4 kids.

Bluebellbike · 13/07/2022 09:32

£53 per month with Eon Next. Almost £200 in cedit. Fixed tariff for 2 years from August 2021 to August 2023. One bed bungalow and just me living there. Last monthly bill was £30. All electric except for gas central heating. Bungalow has a total of 4 rooms.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 13/07/2022 09:33

I have pay as you go meters that were here when we moved in and actually prefer them as helping me to budget and see what I am using/paying for exactly what I use

Currently putting £15 on electric and £10 on gas to build a buffer for the heating come winter, sometimes need to do a mid week £5 top up as it’s the holidays and we are here more, £15 lasts just over a week when everyone is out at school/work

GlisteningGoldGrasses · 13/07/2022 09:35

We're on a £160 direct debit, up from £85 at the start of the year. We're in a energy rated D 3 bed 1970's semi. We managed to get joint gas and electric down to £30 in June but that's our very cheapest so far and comparable to last summer but we're using a lot less, stopping using the oven made the most difference along with attaching a timer plug to our boiler so there's only a 2-hour window in which hot water can be used (along with the usual summer things like no hot baths, heating, tumble drying, heated airers, electric blankets etc.) They did try to put our direct debit up to £250 but we're in a lot of credit and with Bulb so don't want to build it up too high so I asked for it to be lower.

GlisteningGoldGrasses · 13/07/2022 09:37

Forgot to say there's four of us in the house

TuftyMarmoset · 13/07/2022 09:41

2 bedroom Victorian terraced house, two adults who both work from home, £47 for gas & electricity combined. That’s what it was before the prices went up and what it still is now but it will go up in the winter.

popandchoc · 13/07/2022 09:44

Currently £90 a month. 2 bed house with me and two children. I am on a fixed tarriff so assume it will go up quite a bit in Nov when that runs out.

perenniallymessy · 13/07/2022 09:45

We're on a fix until October 2023 at the old pre April 2022 price cap. Large four bed detached, two adults working from home and two pre teens using a lot of Tv/gaming.

We pay £160/month all year on DD and actually had a small surplus at the end of the winter. On that tariff our electricity use is about £80/month on average (it was higher but we've made an effort to reduce it). Our gas is about £15-£20 in the summer and up to £200 some winter months. We need to add more insulation to the loft so hopefully that will reduce our gas usage a bit.

We are getting solar panels in September so our electricity costs should drop a lot but we'll keep the DD as it is so we can build up some credit for when our fix ends.

ginsparkles · 13/07/2022 09:46

3 of us in the house, 4 bed detached. We used just under £100 last month. Have a a DD of £120 but just upped it to £200 to build a winter buffer

PollyEsther · 13/07/2022 09:57

At the moment our electricity is in credit and contiues to build credit as we have solar panels that benefit us hugely in the weather we've been having recently. The meter has gone back 30 units since I last submitted a reading for a bill 10 days ago so we are not paying anything at all. Our gas usage is also very minimal this time of year, with only an hour of hot water on a day. We have electric showers/hob etc so that really is more than sufficient.
However, come winter that will obviously change hugely. Our usage then will be close to £250 a month in total. We will pay £120 for each from September and see how we get on... I fixed our unit prices on the current price cap just before it was announced and I am eternally grateful to risk-averse past me for taking that 2 year fix now!
