If you don’t find your life boring…..tell me why?

PetersRabbitt · 09/07/2022 19:17

If you find you’re not bored with your life, can you tell me why? Is there a logical explanation why you are not bored with your life or, are you just not for no particular reason?

what makes your life not boring to you?
Id love to know!!

I’m quite content with simple pleasures. I appreciate being healthy at 51. I have lost friends and family. It’s a luxury to be bored.

user143677433 · 09/07/2022 21:52

I agree with others that you might well be depressed OP. An absence of joy is a good way to describe it. There’s nothing wrong with seeing the Dr and just describing what you have done here. It doesn’t have to be deep, profound “can’t get out of bed” depression for the Dr to be able to help.

TheOGCCL · 09/07/2022 22:08

@PetersRabbitt There are questionnaires you can do online which might help give a sense of whether you are depressed.

Not sure how old you are but perimenopause can bring a lack of joy, at the same time as the classic mid life crisis (c 43-50), and a proven drop in happiness levels, which recovers after 50, known as the happiness curve.

@SouperNoodle must be nice to not have to work

Is there any need for such a bitchy comment?
Not that it's any of your business but I'm a SAHM as childcare is too damn expensive.
Maybe try to consider that other people may have different situations before being such a judgy cow.

Because I married a man who is my best friend!

Twillow · 10/07/2022 00:00

This sounds more like a health issue. Mild depression, energy lacking - ask for blood tests possibly vit d or thyroid.

DrNo007 · 10/07/2022 00:07

I am never bored except when trapped in someone else’s idea of a good time that doesn’t gel with mine. I like my own company. My work (self employed) is interesting and in my downtime I like gardening, going for walks, watching the odd docu on the TV, being with DH.

blackheartsgirl · 10/07/2022 02:43

I’m too busy surviving the amount of shit in my life to be bored.

teaorcoffee6 · 10/07/2022 03:08

I think op you could well be a little depressed. I feel like most people are a little at the moment. Life has been so difficult and strange since coming out of lockdown most people don't really know where they're at. It's back to normal but even with no restrictions it's not the normal there was before. Then there's this cost of living crisis the political mess and a distinct lack of good news from anywhere in the world. It's enough to depress anyone.

Oblomov22 · 10/07/2022 04:25

I need to read this and take on board. I feel very unhappy atm.

BeethovenNinth · 10/07/2022 07:09

OP I read your update and agree it’s likely a medical issue and not a boredom you have

i agree about getting bloods checked. You sound tired

Wouldloveanother · 09/07/2022 19:25

Because I’ve been through some seriously shit times that have made ‘boring’ positively enjoyable and luxurious.

This! Became really thankful for totally dull days after a trauma. Will never take them for granted again.

blebbleb · 10/07/2022 07:12

I rarely get bored. I work full time and have a toddler. I'm very happy with spending my limited free time with my husband and son. Any other free time I get I like napping and watching tv/films. I try and read and learn too. I'm an introvert so I don't need to go out socialising regularly as I'm happy with my little family. I do try and make time for friends though. Might fit in an exercise class now and again too.

Queenie24 · 10/07/2022 08:02

I don’t think I’m bored, I think my problem is I’m so busy with work (which I love), studying which is hard work and having teens I don’t have the time to do the enjoyable things as much as I would like. I just don’t have the time to take out to socialise loads.

Benjispruce4 · 10/07/2022 08:47

OP have you ever had a health scare? I’ve had a couple that have thankfully turned out to be clear but in those days and weeks waiting to find out, all I wanted was my normal, daily routine. I’ve never forgotten that feeling.
Also, do you use social media? About 10 years ago , in my early 40a I used FaceTime and for the first time (apart from post pregnancy)in my life I started to feel down. I realised it was comparison being the thief of joy. I think it’s true for a lot of people and I see it in my young adult daughters. Always looking at others’ show reels and comparing them to your cutting room floor will only lead to despair.

Benjispruce4 · 10/07/2022 08:47

Facebook not FaceTime

Benjispruce4 · 10/07/2022 08:50

Just seen your update. Have you mentioned your age? Are you peri menopausal? Some symptoms are similar to depression.

Eatingchips · 10/07/2022 09:00

I think most likely there is something at the bottom of your boredom OP. It could be menopause as others have suggested or something that is troubling you unconsciously that hasn’t come up fully yet. It might be worth going to a gp to get a once over and then maybe doing some reading and writing about issues you might have and see if that helps. I think boredom is a sign for us to make some changes.

Thoughtsarrivelikebutterflies5 · 10/07/2022 09:01

After years of being forced to be like my mum, I've finally realised what I want in life.
I'm a huge introverted homebody. I love nothing more than being in the comfort of my own home with a book.
Life has dealt us a pretty shit hand over the last few years so I've finally learned to be contented with what we have. DH and kids are also the same.
We go for walks, see family, chill, play in the garden. If I feel the urge to go out, I head to the library.
Our lives are probably boring to some but we are happy and content which is a lot more than can we said for some.
I'm genuinely happiest at home reading. Books give me all the adventure I need 😃

Mumski45 · 10/07/2022 09:05

I have 3 kids 1 adult and 2 teenagers
I work part time
My job is easy but relatively well paid
I cycle a lot with a club
I pay a cleaner to do the jobs I hate
I do the garden but enjoy that
I have a very good and loyal best friend

dudsville · 10/07/2022 09:08

I think perhaps my life is boring, but I'm not bored by it. I was happy with the busyness of going through uni and further education, the parties, i was happy travelling the world, i enjoyed dating (a lot!). Now I'm old, settled with a nice man, in a nice quiet village, in a nice home. I have some good friends but i don't like to socialise much, or late, or loudly. I like to read, i like going to bed early, and waking up early and having tea and toast in bed. My life makes me very happy. I hope you find what makes you happy.

This. If you go through unbearable times and things bet better you will never be bored. Just thankful. Maybe there's something in there op

Pkwq · 10/07/2022 09:23

Have great adult children
Great friends and family
Don't live with my DP
