Urgent - how to make yourself sick - raw chicken eaten

Bit of a disaster - my shopping delivery arrived and as I was unpacking I discovered a couple of items were a bit slimey inside the clear bags. I couldn't work out what it was initially. I cut my finger on a sharp bit of plastic from a chicken container and without thinking put it in my mouth to discover that chicken container 1's sharp bit had punctured chicken container 2 and all of the fresh shopping was covered in raw chicken juice.
I have read threads on here which suggest that people might want to make themselves sick having consumed raw chicken - I am very immuno suppressed so maybe I should. But how?

Or bacterial load! I don't know the exact terminology. So don't sue me! 👀😂

That's what I'm wondering now.

I feel like the people who are saying this is funny don't understand what someone being immunosuppressed is. It's not something to take lightly. Yeah, I'm sure most people would be absolutely fine if this happened to them. That doesn't mean absolutely everyone will be. If someone is for e.g. going through cancer treatment of course they're going to be concerned if this happens. It's a bit insensitive not to realise that and a lot of people take their own health for granted.

I think I probably would've drank a cup of water and then tried to be sick. You just poke something to the back of your throat until you gag. It's horrible, but I understand a fear of food poisoning.

Standards of preparing chicken for sale have improved loads and it's not like it once was. Also, it probably only recently broke during transit so that improves things. It also isn't raging hot.

I hope you will be OK.
I would also consider drinking a few shots of vodka if you drink/can drink.

All those saying you won’t get ill liking your fingers, why is it that there is such a thing about washing your hands and surfaces after raw chicken through this very contamination?

OP sorry people are dismissive. It’s a huge worry for you. I’d probably do something more like drink some apple cider vinegar and maybe put the house in order in case I did get ill.

Exactly. How do people think cross contamination occurs? Some horrible and poorly educated responses on here.

skybluee · 04/07/2022 17:55

BTW, that's just what I would personally do. I'm certainly not dishing out advice... it is up to you. Good luck.

It wouldn't be likely to make us ill if we did, and throwing up wouldn't help in that event anyway.

I'm not saying OP should worry about it and make themselves sick but I still wouldn't lick a chicken so I wouldn't lick my fingers if they had chicken juice. I just don't understand why people are thinking it's hilarious.

SmileyPiuPiu · 04/07/2022 17:57

@skybluee I agree it's not a lighthearted matter.
OP do you have any listerine or TCP you could gargle?

If she literally momentarily licked her fingers, then it really is not a cause for concern.

The issues of poor hygiene when preparing chicken is the repeated transfer on to multiple surfaces that then get touched & contamination further spread.

I wouldn't say it's funny - not least because OP is worried, and that's not funny.

But it's not likely to be problematic, tho as I said, it does depend on the nature of her immunocompromised condition. (Not all situations are equivalent here).

I had campylobacter as a child from raw chicken and I was so so ill. Even reading this post has bought back memories. I still eat chicken but I avoid it in restaurants and take aways and at home I crucify it so its very over cooked. A few years back I went on an all inclusive and had kebab meat and I didn't realise there was chicken mixed in. I ate some of it and then noticed that some of the chicken was still raw. Luckily I was OK and wasn't ill but I kept thinking I was. Try and not worry and do not think about it. You will know if you have any effects. Without saying what my experience was as its gross but you will know and its more than just a sickness bug.

thanks for all the responses. I did laugh though - of course it's probably an overreaction but I have been told by my team to be super careful about food poisoning as well as other things. And I had a good luck on the bleeding finger but yes it was just a bit of juice.
I got a refund for only one packet of chicken! that's in the bin. The other one went in the freezer inside 2 plastic bags. The rest of the packets covered in juice have been liberally sprayed in dettol and will be resprayed before I open them!
