Help! Can't agree on wedding wine

Wedding is getting close and we can't agree on wine to go with the meal. It's mostly lamb and we're providing one red and one white of reasonable quality but not ridiculous price. Each need to be a type that most people would enjoy and nobody hate rather than one person's favourite. We can't choose a selection within each colour.

Which red would you like? Merlot? Maalbec? Rioja? Cabernet Sauvignon? Something else?

Which white would you enjoy with your meal? Pinot grigio? Chardonnay? Sauvignon Blanc? Something else.

Have you asked the caterer’s advice? Might be something their chefs would have an opinion on

Luidaeg · 01/07/2022 22:11

no one will remember what wine you have

Malbec for red (not merlot, too strong)
Pinot Grigio for white (not chardonnay, some people hate it)

PurpleDaisies · 01/07/2022 22:11

If there’s wine, that would be fine with me. I don’t think I’ve ever known what was on the tables at a wedding I’ve been to beyond red/white.

Personally I would choose a Malbec and a Sauvignon Blanc. I’m not an expert but do enjoy decent wine!

Cascais · 01/07/2022 22:12

SAuvingnon blanc

Shakeitshakeitbaby · 01/07/2022 22:12

Malbec and Pinot would be my choices.

Brava · 01/07/2022 22:14

Malbec and Sauvignon blanc here 😃

jackstini · 01/07/2022 22:14

Malbec or Rioja with the lamb

My fave white is Chardonnay but Sauvignon Blanc probably suits more people. I find Pinot Grigio v boring/bland

BlancmanegeBunny · 01/07/2022 22:14

Another vote for Malbec and Pinot

saltwaterandsuncream · 01/07/2022 22:15

Malbec and Sav.

Bubblesandsqueak1 · 01/07/2022 22:15

Merlot and pinot were the most popular from when I worked in catering that went with lamb if that helps I personally don't drink any wine though so a none alcohol option

SausageAndCash · 01/07/2022 22:16

Rioja
Sauvignon Blanc

winedilemma · 01/07/2022 22:16

I'm so grateful for your replies. I'm of the mind that I wouldn't remember the wine but the caterers are pressing us for 'your choice', 'it's up to you' and we don't know but would like people to find the wine pleasant, even if it's not their favourite.

Lamb goes well with wines with high acidity. Merlot and Cab Sav are ok (but choose French then), but I would go with basic Pinot Noir or Chianti. For white anything Sauvignon Blanc, Soave or Pino Gris would be safe choices. I would not serve Chardonnay based wines. Rose is also such a great choice for lamb and summer weddings - you could get cheaper New Zealsnd or Italian versions rather than Provence

Twillseeker · 01/07/2022 22:21

My vote would be Malbec and sauv. Don’t mind Pinot and hate Chardonnay with a passion. Gives me a right headache.

2DemisSVP · 01/07/2022 22:25

We chose the white wine on my hen party , DH chose the red. We did blind testing , everyone voted , and love them they chose something very reasonably priced ! I found it a really fun and nice thing to share with my friends , just get some mates round and open some bottles 😁

This!
Or, whichever you prefer 😁🍷

OompaLoompaa · 01/07/2022 22:26

Malbec and Sav

KirstenBlest · 01/07/2022 22:30

A young bordeaux or a cabernet with the lamb.
White wine - depends on the food, I'd choose SB not PG, and as much as I like a nice Chardonnay, many don't like it

PragmaticWench · 01/07/2022 22:33

Merlot (lamb is heavy so can take it) or malbec.

Sauvignon or pinot.

KirstenBlest · 01/07/2022 22:35

Forgot to add, check the strength of the wine, they vary a lot.
Make sure guests have (tap) water on the table.

Dry white wine tends to taste rough with sweet food

MrsWidgerysLodger · 01/07/2022 22:37

Malbec and a Sauv Blanc would be my choice to be a hit with other majority of guests.

Cluckycluck · 01/07/2022 22:43

My preference would be Malbec and Chardonnay but I'd go Rioja and Sauvignon Blanc. Generally easier to drink for people who don't usually tend towards wine. If they're decent they will still be enjoyed by wine lovers, even though they may not be their top choice.

Cervinia · 01/07/2022 22:46

Malbec and sav Blanc for me too

redwaterbottle · 01/07/2022 22:56

Malbec and sauv Blanca. Everyone I know hates Pinot.
