Breakfast in London sunday?

Any recommendations? I've got a child free night away, me and my mum are staying near Marylebone Saturday night. Where would you go for breakfast/brunch? No dietary requirements, Mum loves Covent Garden, but it doesn't have to be there necessarily. She just likes to people watch.

Mum would like somewhere outdoors probably that she can sit and read the papers, but I've said we can get a coffee and head to Regent's Park or something to do that after.

Whenever I'm in London breakfast involves feeding kids who wake at 5am so relaxed late breakfasts are a thing of the past!

Ottalenghis - few locations depending where you need to be

Dishoom - again lots of locations.

Both have nice vibes

doadeer · 29/06/2022 19:40

Oh sorry i didnt see the outside bit. Both are inside

OhThatChicken · 29/06/2022 19:48

A bacon and egg naan at Dishoom is the food of the gods, but depending on where you live I know they're in lots of other parts of the country now.

Not outside but our child-free Sunday morning brunch of choice is Duck and Waffle. It's 42 floors up so if you don't like a glass lift then it might be a bit much but DH and I have been a lot and love it duckandwaffle.com/

Best time we went we went really early and ate lunch watching Tower Bridge open and close and a window cleaner washing the Gherkin building (it took ages and was weirdly impressive people watching). The views are really stunning!

Inside or outside is fine. I did see dishooms menu earlier and it looks amazing. No bookings available for Sunday, but we could go there and queue. I fancied something on the menu, can't remember what it was called, but it said you dip it in chai 😍 sounded amazing!

Ohh it's the buttery buns. I think if you get there at a decent time you'll get a table.

IggyAce · 29/06/2022 19:52

We’re visiting London in July and have booked Bills and the Ivy (both in Covent Garden) for breakfast. The Wolsley is supposed to be lovely for breakfast.

Florencenotflo · 29/06/2022 19:54

@OhThatChicken the menu there sounds amazing!

@IggyAce that sounds lovely. Places like that panic me slightly though, I'm more greasy spoon than The Ivy 😂

Anyone wanting an old school full English blow out you cannot beat Terrys off the south bank! It's legendary and there are queues

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/06/2022 19:54

The Wolseley
Granger and Co - best granola I've ever had!
Mildreds if you like veggie/vegan stuff
Or yes to Dishoom - I think they're at their best at breakfast

gerispringer · 29/06/2022 19:56

Brunch at the Sky Garden is quite special , but expensive.

erinaceus · 29/06/2022 20:00

Raoul's Deli in Maida Vale is something of a classic, often has queues.

My personal favourite is The Delaunay which is somewhat theatrical but might not be the vibe your mother is looking for.

Auntpodder · 29/06/2022 20:00

If Marylebone, Fischers has a few outdoor tables I think. Marylebone High Street is lovely - feels v local for central London but has great people watching. Most will have some outside tables... www.marylebonevillage.com/food-and-drink

SmurfysLaw · 29/06/2022 20:02

The Wolseley is fab but may be fully booked. Try their sister restaurant in Covent Garden The Delaunay which has a similar (and slightly cheaper) menu.

Neverplayleapfrogwithaunicorn · 29/06/2022 20:03

Karma bread in Hampstead heath.

Stillfunny · 29/06/2022 20:03

This Sunday had a great brunch at Balans in Soho . If a nice day , walking distance from Convent Garden.

Auntpodder · 29/06/2022 20:04

And if you're near the Edgware Rd bit of Marylebone, Connaught Village 🙄is fab - www.connaught-village.co.uk/food-and-drink/ but if near Oxford Street, St Christopher's Place is pedestrianised www.stchristophersplace.com/eat-and-drink/

OhThatChicken · 29/06/2022 20:08

@Florencenotflo The banana waffle with their home made Nutella equivalent is one of my favourite brunches ever anywhere. I literally laid in bed at night thinking about it sometimes during lockdown when wondering when things would reopen. Their cooked breakfast is good too if you're not a sweet things for breakfast person.

We went to Mike's in Notting Hill for a fantastic breakfast - sort of trendy greasy spoon, then you can do the market afterwards, wander down to Hyde Park or Kensington Gardens

TheFlis12345 · 29/06/2022 20:09

The Ivy in Marylebone is lovely. We have been to a couple of their branches for breakfast and this was by far the best. The food was brilliant and the service so good we left a cash tip on top of the service charge!

DappledOliveGroves · 29/06/2022 20:09

Riding House cafe has great brunch and excellent service! Really lovely atmosphere.

RockaLock · 29/06/2022 20:09

How about the Riding House Cafe - they do a good breakfast menu.

The one on Great Titchfield St (just north of Oxford St) isn't too far from Marylebone.

RockaLock · 29/06/2022 20:10

Xpost with @DappledOliveGroves !

@doadeer Dishoom in St Martin’s Lane has outside seating - or is it not open on Sunday mornings?
