Anyone sold to We Buy Any Car?

WeAreTheHeroes · 28/06/2022 15:09

Valuation they've given me online is excellent. I've been honest about condition and mileage. I know they charge a service fee and more if you want the money straightaway.

Has anyone had experience of selling to them? Are there any catches?

My Dd did with her first car she got more than anywhere else .It was held together with bolts and hope 😃

Xanthe68 · 28/06/2022 15:11

Yes, it was easy. They will almost certainly reduce the online valuation- that’s just to hook you- even though you’ve been honest about the condition. Decide the lowest price you will accept before you go in and stick to it.

Mrsjayy · 28/06/2022 15:12

No catches she paid the fee and waited for the money .

We had a good experience and I don't think they knocked anything off the price they offered, actually maybe 100 pounds for a small dent. But still a good price.

ExHProblem · 28/06/2022 15:13

All fine, and they offered me £50 more when they’d done their inspection!

Pinkpenlady · 28/06/2022 15:14

I sold mine with them a few years ago, but it was basically that or scrapping the car. And they offered me more than the scrap man.

Lindy2 · 28/06/2022 15:18

Yes. I found them very helpful.

You won't get the online valuation. They will reduce it a bit.

I was aware of that so expected a bit less than the online amount but I was pleased with what was offered. It was a considerably more than I'd been offered as a part exchange value.

Be aware that if you leave it a while between getting the online valuation and taking the car in, it doesn't work in your favour. Each updated valuation will be a bit lower than the one before. That was my main mistake.

If you want the money instantly they'll charge you a fee. I was happy to wait a week and not pay the fee. It does put you in the strange position of not having a car or the payment for it for a while though.

I felt a lot safer dealing with them than potentially selling privately and having to let unknown people drive it etc.

WeAreTheHeroes · 28/06/2022 15:24

Thanks everyone.

@Lindy2 - my valuation has gone down then up again over a few weeks!

@Xanthe68 - what has been your experience with them that makes you say they will almost certainly reduce the valuation?

When I sold my car before last I received on-line valuations from WBAC and Evans Halshaw. EH's valuation was much higher than WBAC so I went there first. There on-site valuation was higher than WBAC, which I knew they'd try to reduce, so I sold it there and then. Money was in my bank account within three days.

Cancelled my WBAC appointment straightaway, telling them I'd sold my car.

WBAC pestered me for weeks to bring in the car I'd told them I didn't have anymore😂🙄

UrsulaPandress · 28/06/2022 15:27

I’ve been advised to use them when I sell my DD’s car.

WhatHaveIFound · 28/06/2022 15:31

We sold to WBAC and the whole thing went very smoothly. They valued the vehicle at a lot more than we thought it was worth so we jumped at the chance to get rid of our diesel car. The money was in the bank within a couple of days.

My DH was talking to the guy when he dropped it off and he'd only been working for them for two weeks so that's probably why he didn't haggle the price down as he didn't notice the small scratch on the side.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 28/06/2022 16:23

We sold to them a few years back. They will probably reduce the online valuation. They did with us - made up some bullshit about us not servicing it annually ( it was in a long service plan so done according the Volkswagen's timings and the service book was fully stamped). So be prepared for them trying some rubbish like that.

ChickenBurgers · 28/06/2022 16:25

They might take money off the valuation once you get there, they did for my partner cos it didn’t have a diesel converter thing (CPF…?). But we went with it anyway as just wanted it gone tbh. You can always walk away if you’re not happy with the quote if they change it! Money was with us really quickly, either same day or day after if I remember rightly.

SquigglePigs · 28/06/2022 16:28

We've sold a couple of cars to them and as long as you're honest about the condition the valuation is pretty accurate. One car they didn't take anything off when they saw it, the other only about £50.

SouthOfFrance · 28/06/2022 16:31

I was going to, but sold it privately for more than they offered online. It was definitely worth my while selling privately via Facebook ads.
If you want to sell on Facebook put up a few photos including one of the mileage etc, set it at a reasonable price expecting people to haggle it down a bit. You'll have people contacting you straight away. I'd say if you want £800 for it put it on for £900 & let people negotiate you down. You can see how much yours is worth by looking on autotrader for similar cars.

123Callie · 28/06/2022 16:37

It’s very quick and easy. You won’t necessarily get the maximum amount possible but you also won’t get any hassle. I’ve sold privately before and you have to put up with people coming round for test drives and haggling with you. My brother sold a car privately and the buyer caused him a lot of problems post sale.

Hugasauras · 28/06/2022 16:43

We used Cartakeback and they were great. They came in higher than WBAC, collected within two days and gave us the exact amount quoted. Couldn't be arsed fannying around with private buyers or companies who wouldn't give quotes online for the sake of a fee quid extra.

Hugasauras · 28/06/2022 16:44

Oh and our car had a broken headlight that I didn't notice (had been sitting on drive for a year!) and they didn't deduct anything for it.

Hugasauras · 28/06/2022 16:46

Oh I think it's just for scrap cars though.

If it's a fairly newish car or in good condition, what about Cazoo or similar? We've just bought from Cazoo and they've been excellent, and they also buy cars. You can get a valuation online.

easyday · 28/06/2022 16:55

Their online estimate was in line with the trade in value offered by my dealership so went with the dealership. I'd shop around first - don't just accept their offer.

WeAreTheHeroes · 28/06/2022 17:07

I've had four different valuations, including a trade in priced a few months ago but guaranteed. WBAC's valuation was better then and has since gone up.

Haggisfish3 · 28/06/2022 17:16

I just have-we got given the price quoted online and all very hassle free. No deductions.

Foreverlexicon · 28/06/2022 17:30

I’ve done it with two cars that I just needed/wanted rid of. They were very good - knocked a little off due to dents etc but entirely stress free and very easy. Would do it again in a heartbeat in the right circs (both those cars had issues so would of gotten much less as part exchange and would of been reluctant to sell privately even with disclosing the issues)

eleanoreleanoreleanor · 28/06/2022 18:07

Same as most others here, they knocked of £50 or so for scratches and dents but we were expecting that. The process was very quick and we had the money within about 72 hours, maybe sooner. They did suggest the car would likely be scrapped (we thought this was the case) and we had been unable to sell privately so were happy with the price, however a couple of weeks later we got a speeding fine notification (luckily after we'd sold it so it was for the new owners) so I don't think it was scrapped after all. Still, we were happy.

Itsmemaggie · 28/06/2022 18:24

I’ve sold with them as just didn’t want the hassle of doing a private sale and didn’t need to trade-in. I checked the valuation against the offer from the dealer and although they did knock the online offer down a bit, I thought it was fair enough because the paint work was fairly damaged.
