Anyone sold to We Buy Any Car?

Valuation they've given me online is excellent. I've been honest about condition and mileage. I know they charge a service fee and more if you want the money straightaway.

Has anyone had experience of selling to them? Are there any catches?

I've sold three cars that way now. I find them excellent. Yes, they will find damage and knock it off the initial valuation (unless you declared it) but I've always found it very fair.

Very simple and a pleasant transaction, much preferable to me than dealing with private buyers.

We’ve used motorway and carwow. WBAC was the lowest compared to these (11 plate high spec juke in great order with FSH, 2 keys and low mileage).

no downward negotiation. Very polite collection agent on the day. They did insist on a test drive first.

hedgehogger1 · 28/06/2022 20:10

I did. Valuation was in line with everywhere else. They didn't do any deductions. Was better than I expected and very convenient!

We didn't have a great experience but we had no choice - we were emigrating the next day. They knocked nearly £1000 off the online valuation, and I'd been honest about the condition, which was good. It was for things like "this panel has been previously resprayed" - I had no way of knowing if that was true as we hadn't owned the car from new - they went round the car with a scanner of some kind. This was 5+ years ago though, and the dealer did know I had zero options.
OTOH it was easy to do and all tied up quickly

RobertJohnsonsShoes · 28/06/2022 23:30

I had a good experience. They paid more than what it was worth imo

Everydaydayisaschoolday · 29/06/2022 01:26

We did. Super easy and got more than we had been offered for part exchange. We didn't need the money instantly so no service fee but it arrived in our bank account within a couple of days.

The next time we bought and sold we got a better deal by pex-ing through Cinch. They were just brilliant. No haggling in a dealership and a door to door delivery service.

WeAreTheHeroes · 03/07/2022 07:07

Cinch is owned by the same company.

I didn't go ahead - I won't go into detail here as we're taking it further. They rely on people being desperate for the money imo and we're not. Their valuations guaranteed for four days are nothing of the sort.

Yes I have...I got £350 more from them than I was offered by the dealer I was buying my new car from. Really excellent service...literally in, quick check around my car to make sure it was as I'd stated online...then the money was transferred 👍

takemetomars · 03/07/2022 07:14

Yes, easy to do, no catches, no bullshit. They will deduct from your quote for various such as damage to alloys, bumps and scratches. I paid extra to have the money in my bank on the same day

ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler · 03/07/2022 07:56

Yes I've sold to them twice. Both times they reduced the valuation by between £1000-1500 but after some negotiation it was about £500. This was a few years ago though.

Sold recently to Arnold Clark got the exact price offered and was in and out in 15 mins.

dontgobaconmyheart · 03/07/2022 10:03

Our experience is that they will try their best to reduce the valuation by small increments (which add up) by means possible when they inspect the vehicle after you turn up to the appointment.

In real terms therefore is depends on the car. Something older that's had use and wear and tear will fare worse. Think things like any scratches, interior damage, tyre tread. I was amused ghag they took a chunk off because the car's 'service due' light was on. It got serviced yearly and had been serviced in the last six months but at that time was used for a very long commute so really did the miles (and that is what triggers the service light).

All fine of you just want rid of a car, won't want to arrange a private sale and are happy not to get the best possible price. Obviously also need to think about how you'll get home if you take the car there and leave it with them.

What happened? We had a quite a couple of weeks ago and a new higher offer a couple of days ago. We were planning on going down tomorrow to sell it.

Juststopit · 03/07/2022 14:03

I has an awful experience with them, offered half what the online valuation was - money taken off for stone chips - it was a 12 year old car. Sales person was incredibly rude and ignorant - asked for service history 3 times - and then marked it down as no service history - it had full he’s looked at it 3 times.
if you want your money quickly you have to pay extra.
I really think they are praying on those who are desperate for money

Mindymomo · 03/07/2022 14:11

My DH sold his van through them, he was offered £1,000 when it wasn’t in a great condition, but had low mileage. We expected them to make a lower offer when they saw it, but they didn’t and we sold it at 1 pm and money was in bank that afternoon.

blobby10 · 03/07/2022 15:32

Friend used it for a 2018 plate VW Golf. Got £300 taken off when he dropped it off for serious damage to an alloy but otherwise found it a painless process. my mum had a more unusual car and got a valuation from WBAC but also a smaller and more specialised car buying group who they eventually sold with. I part exchanged my car as figured that by the time WBAC had taken off money for the buggered alloys and the hassle booking appts etc I may as well just use the dealer I was getting my new car from

BiteyShark · 03/07/2022 15:37

We have sold a few cars with them.

You won't get the online valuation. They will reduce it a bit.

Not always true. One car had a ding in the door from someone opening their door into mine. They knocked off £25 which I thought was fair but a recent car we sold was in great condition with no dints or scrapes and was deemed to be in top condition. The price offered was really good and not reduced and the money was in our bank before we got home.

kierenthecommunity · 03/07/2022 15:57

I’ve used them twice. The first time they knocked some money off for a knackered alloy. The second time they didn’t knock anything off.

I knew I’d probably get more selling it privately but the last time I tried via Auto Trader (are they still going?) I got a boatload of scam emails and the rest were taking the mick with their offers.

So it’s just a lot less stress.

Ive heard good things about Motorway too

amicissimma · 03/07/2022 20:24

We used them during lockdown. Normally I slog to the nearest auction and am then faced with the carless slog back, but couldn't do that under lockdown.

We were pleased with WBAC. They didn't reduce from their original, very reasonable, offer. Gave us a few minutes to make our minds up when we were there and were polite and friendly, not at all pushy. Obviously we had to stand around outside but not their fault. The money went into our account quite quickly and we had a reasonable walk home.

If they don't go downhill I'd use them again. Less effort than the auctions for a similar sum and without the hassle of private buyers and possible scams.
