Accidentally in credit on credit card.

I’m with nationwide and I have a credit card with them and another with a different bank. Nationwide credit card had zero balance and other card had a hundred quid on it.

As the direct debit was due soon I wanted to do a faster payment and pay off the complete balance but I’ve completely cocked up and sent the money to my Nationwide card so I’m £100 in credit.

I feel like a complete idiot. Is there any way I can recall this money into my debit account or shuffle it over to my other credit card without incurring balance transfer fees or am I going to have to call nationwide and tell them what a dumbass I am?

Yes you can they can withdraw the money for you via the telephone free of charge.

BrokenToy · 26/06/2022 18:53

Just ring them and ask for it back. It’s no big deal.

BackT · 26/06/2022 18:54

I do this a lot. Just spend the money on the card. I doubt you can recall it.

Can you not just pay the £100 balance off the other card with the card that’s in credit?

I don’t think I can. There’s no option in my Nationwide to do it and on the other cards app it says ‘Pay with debit card’ so don’t think they’ll accept it.

If they won’t snicker at me and it’s not a big hoohah to recall the money I’ll call the bank. I did think about spending it til it’s down but that means dipping into my savings to pay the other one and I’ve an odd aversion to doing that even though I know it’s no big deal.

Just send them a secure message on the Internet banking site and they will sort it out for you. Put the details of the account you want the funds transferred to. I've done this a few times when I've returned something and been refunded to my credit card after I've already paid the bill.

namechangeanonymous · 26/06/2022 19:01

Can't you just pay your food / petrol bill on your credit card this week and use that Money and use the money to pay your card?

gemsgv · 26/06/2022 19:02

I had something similar and just put that exact amount of petrol in and used it to pay

BarbaraofSeville · 26/06/2022 19:03

Just spend the credit on food or fuel and use the money you didn't spend to pay off the other card. Easy peasy.

LeafHunter · 26/06/2022 19:04

I’ve done this before and just spent it off my credit card. Is there a reason you can’t do that?

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 26/06/2022 19:11

Maybe I’m being a bit daft but I’d rather just have it reversed, it seems neater somehow.

I was planning to clear all my cards and just be done for a bit. I’ve been trying to use them all and pay them off in full to boost my credit rating but I’m getting myself confused and breaking out in a cold sweat thinking I’ve forgotten to clear one.

My DM has not helped when I asked her about this issue and she went on and on about how could I be so stupid Blush

I’d just put my next groceries or whatever on it, not sure it is worth calling over.

TheRookie · 26/06/2022 19:17

This is really a storm in a tea cup! Just ring the company tomorrow and ask them to reverse it, and pay off your other credit card. Once the money is returned, put it in savings, job done!

Although I would probably just spend the £100 on the CC rather than ringing, and then pay off the other card the next month 👍🏻

Octomore · 26/06/2022 19:21

Next time you do a big shop, just pay using that card. No drama, surely?

If you overshoot slightly, then just do a bank transfer to pay off the balance straight away.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 26/06/2022 19:23

They might automatically reverse it. I did it once on a cc (don’t remember which one) and the money appeared in my current account shortly after.

gunnersgold · 26/06/2022 19:24

Just use your credit card for the food shop etc .

I know it is, I’ve overreacted massively. I hadn’t had credit cards until recently, always paid upfront for things but my credit rating was dismal so I’ve had to. Nothings ever gone wonky with them before and I was naive to how it would get sorted.

I’ve got a lot going on at the mo and I think this is the straw that broke the camels back.

Thank you all for the solid advice and the reassurance that this is no big deal. Much appreciated Smile

you are making this complicated when it really doesn’t need to be. Just buy groceries and be done with it.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 26/06/2022 19:27

Buy some petrol or groceries to that value

Ladybug14 · 26/06/2022 19:28

No wonder you feel stressed about it if your Mum is telling you you're stupid

You're not. You made an easily fixed mistake.

LizzieSiddal · 26/06/2022 19:32

Don’t listen to your mum, you aren’t stupid and this is easily put right.

UnalliterativeGeorge · 26/06/2022 19:35

You'll look less daft than me the time I rang them up convinced somebody had been stealing my money and it turned out I'd forgotten I'd been shopping at the weekend Grin

KateMcCallister · 26/06/2022 19:44

You're not stupid. Ignore your "d"m.

Just use the cc instead of current account to the tune of £100, it makes no odds and being in credit won't harm your score, nor will using the available credit.

You'd have spent the money anyway so pay the other card off as usual and stop fretting about something that is very much not a big deal Flowers

SlatsandFlaps · 26/06/2022 21:20

Withdraw it from a cash machine then pay into your current account at a post office/bank branch and start again

Chewbecca · 26/06/2022 21:53

DON’T withdraw it from a cash machine!

CC cash withdrawals almost always incur fees.
