Pringles at £3 a tube can fuck off too. I've discovered the joys of the Aldi ones now, so even if Pringles go on offer they can swivel.

Pringles were 1.65 in Tesco the other day.

OnNaturesCourse · 10/02/2023 00:41

Fizzy Juice.

Upwards of £1.80 for a 2L bottle for branded stuff. Absolutely ridiculous.

heartbroken22 · 29/03/2023 22:10

We just tend to buy for the week now and let things finish instead of restocking midway. Basics such as milk and bread we do restock.

Sometimes if we've got alot of fruit then we don't buy that the second week. Same with veg.

Lamb. I miss lamb. I've learned to love pork. I've always liked it but I have developed a new affection for shoulder. Still cheap.

I got a leg of lamb for £15 from Farm Foods, these days that’s a good price! I saw a leg of lamb for £35 in Waitrose the other day 😳

LoisLane66 · 30/03/2023 22:35

FOOD. I have to be contented with watching cooking videos on YouTube and the scrapings in other people's bins 😢

LoisLane66 · 30/03/2023 22:39

@BaconAndAvocado
I've seen mutton dressed as lamb in Waitrose.
She was 87 if a day and dressed in a shorts suit with a baseball cap and 3 inch thick platform trainers.

If you have a farm foods, you can get 30 birdseye cod ff for £6.50”

Morrisons own are nicer (family tell me) than Birds Eye and slightly cheaper.

BaconAndAvocado · 31/03/2023 09:58

Sorry, no idea MrsSkylerWhite (love your username) I only went in there for the above mentioned lamb.
It’s quite a strange shop.......not much in the way of healthy fare.

Interestingly, it was one of the first supermarkets to stock frozen, organic veg years ago. I like the work it does in its communities, too. The MD seems like a decent man who knows his customer base and its needs very well.

My GC like Alpro Chocolate Soya drink which has gone up from £1.50 to £2 recently. I always give them a glass after I pick them up from school and they'd really miss it!
Ocado have had leg of lamb at half price recently, cheaper than shoulder, so I've stocked up a bit. I think shoulder is really expensive now, considering how fatty some joints are.
We eat much more chicken than we used to, though we make a chicken last longer than before - there are only two of us her. I used to buy free range because I think it tastes better, but not at the current price!

angela99999 · 31/03/2023 10:47

Now that Tesco doesn't have a butchers' counter they don't seem to have such good offers. I miss buying the thick pork chops that they did as the pre-packed ones are pretty thin.
Morrisons is nowhere near as good as it used the be - though at least they still have the counter.

Aldi do some lovely thick cut pork chops. I haven't bought them in a while but they used to be £2.49 I think for two. No doubt the price has gone up in recent months but I'm sure they'll still be reasonable comparatively speaking.

angela99999 · 02/04/2023 19:47

I used to shop in Lidl but now I've moved there isn't a convenient store. They did pork medallions which were good, if a little skinny.

nicslackey · 02/04/2023 23:31

Lamb is just beyond us now.
Water biscuits were 60p and now £1.10 in Tesco
Those packets of microwave rice, great for saving fuel. Were 35p and a few weeks ago went up to 50p and now 60p in Tesco today.
Asda's clementine juice was a favourite when it was 2 for £2 but now it is £1.80 we have given that up. Mr Kipling Angel slices are extortionate now and would not pay what they are asking on principle, same with Heinz ketchup.

Buy a carton of soya milk and a bottle of Crusha chocolate milkshake syrup and you can have chocolate milk for a lower cost.

I'm preparing more of my own food now to try and cut costs.

Tuna pasta and spaghetti bolognaise are favourites here. I'm making my own now which is cheaper as well as tastier and healthier.

I'm actually switching to a powdered hot chocolate and ordinary milk is fine for them - it's just that the Alpro one has such a rich chocolatey taste and has a thick, filling consistency. It keeps them going until supper time.

Yes, we eat a lot of bolognaise and other pasta dishes too, the childrens' favourite supper. Our tuna pasta bake also has thinly sliced leeks in it, if your children like leeks? I'm getting on a bit (a granny) and have never actually bought a pasta sauce so have no idea what they're like.

Our ultimate favourite is "Twirly Pie" which is a pasta twirl bake with a bit of meat sauce and lots of cheese sauce mixed through, grilled until brown. Its like a more interesting macaroni cheese.

Stopped buying Costa ground coffee and PG Tips tea, I buy the stores own brand now.

gracedentssketty · 04/04/2023 16:50

Going to stop buying always ultra pads - previously 2 packs for £5 and had 16 in a pack. Now 2 packs for £6 and only 14 in a pack!

Orangesandlemons77 · 04/04/2023 17:13

The own brand versions of those sanitary products can be cheaper and good.

ilovebagpuss · 04/04/2023 17:15

Cucumber! My local Co-op is selling them at 1.45!!! They are 79p in the big Sainsburys

Choc Mini rolls! £3.50 😳why would anyone pay that!? Only when on offer do they appear as a treat

Aldi mini rolls are just as good if not better £1.09

Openmouthinsertfood · 04/04/2023 19:46

Salad Cream. I've switched to Sainsburys own brand. Pounds cheaper.
