Has anyone found ANYTHING that will stop insect bites from itching? I'm desperate!

Bloody, fucking, evil, demonic little twatbag mozzies have bitten me all over my stomach Angry

I always react quite badly to bites, and these are no exception. This is not just itching...this is ferocious, un-ignorable itching that has kept me awake for the last two nights. And naturally, as I lack self-control, I have scratched the fuckers to bits and made them even angrier.

Has anyone found anything, at all, that helps ease the itching? I've tried oatmeal baths, calamine, those stupid bloody clicker things, antihistamine cream/tablets, vinegar, toothpaste and baking soda paste - no cigar.

Hydrocortisone cream/or gel

I bought a little gadget from Amazon that heats up and you press it against the bite - brilliant!

I’ve got something similar from Lidl . I had the Amazon one it was great but I misplaced it so saw Lidl had something similar as I couldn’t find it in Amazon.
It is back in stock now though so I would buy it again. It has a ceramic pad that heats up - it has 2 settings. It does burn momentarily but it does relive the itching - somethings it needs a couple of goes though but I would recommend it.

Yes. Blow dry them until it burns/stings . Then do it again a couple more times. Instant lasting relief.

It's miraculous

i agree….. new version of hot spoon. Honestly op go try it and report back.

Ice pack, keep them as cool as possible. This reduces the inflammation and works for me

CoffeeAndTV1 · 22/06/2022 20:38

I used a paste made of salt and water on mine last year and it seemed to do something.

I'm reaching for my repellent now! Hate them. I get eaten even in the UK.

Also off to take my multivitamin with B12!

RosesAndHellebores · 22/06/2022 20:42

Anti-histamine tablets. Change them up every summer.

I have skeeter syndrome too. Antihistamine cream I find lethal - it contains lanolin and I'm allergic.to that as well.

And I slather on the deet.

RoseMartha · 22/06/2022 20:54

I end up scratching them for about a week and put Savlon on twice a day.

FruitToast · 22/06/2022 21:06

Just given DD her antihistamine and put hydrocortisone on her bites as she reacts badly and yet we continue to live next to woodland with several ponds nearby. GP prescribes them all summer for her but as an adult you can get both OTC. Germolene also helps in-between the HC doses and helps prevent any infection.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/06/2022 21:07

Anthisan cream, from Boots.
Works for us.

Wallywobbles · 22/06/2022 21:09

Back of a teaspoon dipped in boiling water. Needs to be around 50c so don't leave it in the water long. Leave on bite or sting 3-6 seconds. Jobs done. It kills the toxins.

Be warned it's a pretty uncomfortable cure for the 3 seconds.

Crackercrazy · 22/06/2022 21:15

I use an ice pack. Numbs the area so it doesn’t feel itchy.

might try the hot spoon the next time though.

Dilbertian · 22/06/2022 21:19

Heat may break down whatever it is that the bug injects into you, but it does not affect the allergic reaction if your body responds that way.

newtb · 22/06/2022 21:21

Pierre d'alun, thé rock salt deoderant works on horsefly bites that turn into a hard white lump.

Icannoteven · 22/06/2022 21:25

Hydrocortisone. I use the sainsburies bite and sting cream, which contains this.

PlntLady · 22/06/2022 21:26

Definitely hand gel. Not the moisturising kind. It should sting a little and take the itch out of it and consistent use will dry the bite out. It is hot itchy put an ice cube on it.

Curlygirl06 · 22/06/2022 21:29

Saisong · 22/06/2022 19:30

A hot teaspoon rubbed on the bite can provide temporary relief.

Don't do what I did- put the spoon in boiling water, waved it about a bit to cool it off, but not cool enough! Whacked that sucker on the bite, nearly gave myself a burn, hopped about swearing like a docker whilst my husband nearly had an asthma attack laughing so much. Mind you, it took my mind off the itching.

Muminabun · 22/06/2022 21:29

I am allergic to them. Anthisan cream and take a piriton tablet. Germaine cream if really inflamed. All instant and over the counter.

Winterofdiscontent22 · 22/06/2022 21:30

Eurax cream is the only thing that works for me

lemondrop72 · 22/06/2022 21:35

We're on holiday at the moment and I put savlon on an insect bite yesterday and within 30 minutes it had vanished!!! My dh was very smug because he swear by savlon for almost everything 😅

WhatIsThisPlease · 22/06/2022 21:40

I got bitten at base of toe a few nights ago. It's come up in a MASSIVE lump and is so itchy I was ready to amputate my own foot.

Anyway, discovered (just in time) that germolene is extremely effective. Like, stopped the itching instantly for hours.

ClutterofStarlings · 22/06/2022 21:40

Germolene cream or I’ve put on anbesol before & that helped.
there’s also an anti itch cream you can get in a yellow box that has local anaesthetic in that would probably also work.
off to google skeeter syndrome.

FluWorldOrder · 22/06/2022 21:43

I don’t suppose you happen to be breastfeeding? Breastmilk will stop the itch right away. Just hand express a small amount and rub in if this applies to anyone reading 😊

Colinthedaxi · 22/06/2022 21:56

Reading all these suggestions and ordering a selection online as I’m just the same as the OP and was sat here clawing at a bee sting. The Deep Freeze has worked well for tonight so thanks to who suggested it. Germoline on bed side table for next round. Already flatlining the tablets 😁

bettybadger · 22/06/2022 22:11

Another vote for Germolene - local anaesthetic with added benefit of antiseptic. Always have a tube in my medicine kit - used to get bitten by mozzies a lot...

TerfranosaurusVagina · 11/09/2022 15:04

Bit of a zombie thread but I've just bought the Bug Bite Thing off Amazon. I've had so many night time bites this summer I was starting to think we had bed bugs! This was in spite of using an insect repellent in our diffuser all night long. Going to try the hot teaspoon thing and vitamin B12 too!

As a preventative, we went to the South of France a few years back now, and took 10 Allicin tablets a day, starting a week before we left to build it up in our system. Came back with only 1 bite over 2 weeks. The previous time I'd gone, I collected 50 bites on just my legs.
