Has anyone found ANYTHING that will stop insect bites from itching? I'm desperate!

Bloody, fucking, evil, demonic little twatbag mozzies have bitten me all over my stomach Angry

I always react quite badly to bites, and these are no exception. This is not just itching...this is ferocious, un-ignorable itching that has kept me awake for the last two nights. And naturally, as I lack self-control, I have scratched the fuckers to bits and made them even angrier.

Has anyone found anything, at all, that helps ease the itching? I've tried oatmeal baths, calamine, those stupid bloody clicker things, antihistamine cream/tablets, vinegar, toothpaste and baking soda paste - no cigar.

Yes. Blow dry them until it burns/stings . Then do it again a couple more times. Instant lasting relief.

It's miraculous

Re do the following day if needed.

I use an Aspivenin mini pump which I find very helpful.

BeyondMyWits · 22/06/2022 19:53

Eurax HC cream (contains antihistamine for the itch and hydrocortisone for the inflammation) and an anti-histamine tablet. Fexofenadine is available over the counter now.

I always do the hot spoon thing. I boil a kettle and soak the spoon - then hold it down on the bite (probably for longer than I should). It burns like fire but the itching stops completely.

Tiger balm

Notanotherwindow · 22/06/2022 20:03

Savlon normally does it for me. Although tbf I use it for everything. My nan used to call it magic cream and I think I might still believe it!

WishILivedInThrushGreen · 22/06/2022 20:04

Yes... tiger balm.
In fact, the white tiger balm.

kshaw · 22/06/2022 20:04

Germalene for me works. I react bad too

Scautish · 22/06/2022 20:05

OP, you need this. It is the same as the heated spoon but in a device (and heats up even hotter, and really hurts)

Beurer BR60 Insect Bite Healer, Insect Bite Pen For The Treatment Of Insect Bites And Stings, Provides Natural Relief From Itching And Swelling Without Medication, Certified Medical Device amzn.eu/d/c82riKj

but it works. It really really fucking works. I used it this morning on a massive horrible itchy bite

(the science is that the heat breaks down the proteins which are causing the itch)

honestly, it’s amazing. And I’ve tested in Scottish judge bites and works for them too.

Podgedodge · 22/06/2022 20:06

Second hot spoon or hairdryer aimed at itch.
once initial soreness gone you can feel it drawing itch out. Careful not to burn though, short sharp blasts.

BonnesVacances · 22/06/2022 20:06

You need an antihistamine. As a PP said, try Fexofenadine OTC.

sleepymum50 · 22/06/2022 20:06

I have a terrible reaction and get loads of horseflys around here.

I use Antisan cream. I apply it frequently and really rub it in. Then I’ll use cold flannels or gel packs at night.

I have permanent non pigmented patches on my shins from bites.

Riverlee · 22/06/2022 20:07

Germolene has helped my insect bites. It has a mild local anaesthetic in it.

Dilbertian · 22/06/2022 20:07

More anti-histamine. You can take up to 4 of the one-a-day types. I would spread them out, 2 in the morning, 2 in the evening. And don't wait until you're bitten or itching. If you know you are prone to being bitten, take one or two every day and up your dose if you've been bitten.

Awayyego · 22/06/2022 20:13

As a preventative measure, my dd took vitamin B12 for a week before a school trip where they were expecting loads of mosquitoes. They completely ignored her and all the other kids got bitten a lot. I was sceptical when I was told to try it but it really worked.

Greensleeves · 22/06/2022 19:41

White or red tiger balm? I have both, so could try that one immediately! Thanks Grin

I've only ever tried white. My husband has red, but I'm not a fan of the smell so don't use it!

Bangkokbaby · 22/06/2022 20:16

Thayn you op, we are heading off on holiday next week and you post had reminded me to pack the tiger balm 🙈
I react really badly to bites, so I understand how you feel!

fuzzwuss · 22/06/2022 20:17

Ice works really well. Heat doesn’t really do it for either. Best of all is one of those gel filled bags to put in freezer and Referenzenangaben. Doesn’t melt all over the bd either.

cansu · 22/06/2022 20:18

hydrocortisone cream. It is the only thing to use if you react badly.

SiobhanSharpe · 22/06/2022 20:24

Deep Relief gel (a mixture of ibuprofen gel and levomenthol)
Spead a thin layer over the bite. The menthol cools it right down immediately and the ibuprofen takes the stinging and swelling down because it's an NSAID (anti-imflammatory.)
Reapply before bedtime and take a couple of paracetamol.

DobbleWobble · 22/06/2022 20:24

I agree with hydrocortisone cream, it is the only thing that brings my massive swollen bits down when I've been bitten

DobbleWobble · 22/06/2022 20:25

*bites not bits 😂

RedCarsGoFaster · 22/06/2022 20:25

Anthisan cream or hydrocortisone cream.

bevelino · 22/06/2022 20:29

Lanacaine works a treat on insect bites as it contains a local anaesthetic.

Saisong · 22/06/2022 19:30

A hot teaspoon rubbed on the bite can provide temporary relief.

I was coming on to say this. Great for midgie bites.
