Hi all
I would love your honest opinions please.
Would you read a book where the main character was a woman of 65 who has recently started dating a man of 70 - who then catches the attention of a man in his 30s and pursues her?

Yes.

HollowTalk · 22/06/2022 09:03

Who is the pursuer, the younger man or the older woman?

Arenanewbie · 22/06/2022 09:05

No, but I only read MN, FB and news.

Pursuer is the man in his 30s - who is going after the 65 year old woman.

No - it sounds marginally irritating.

Georgeskitchen · 22/06/2022 09:37

Possibly, if the story is gripping enough. Not just a boring tale of a young man who chases older women!!

ComtesseDeSpair · 22/06/2022 09:37

The plot sounds a bit thin, I’d need something more in there to make it come across as an interesting read. Overall not the sort of book I’d buy to be honest but might pick it up if I found it in a holiday home or the like.

QuestionableMouse · 22/06/2022 09:38

No, and it probably wouldn't be terribly attractive to publishers because it's going to have such a small market.

Showmethefood · 22/06/2022 09:41

Appreciate your feedback - thought I’d check and see what people thought before I tried to write it. If it’s a poor idea I’d rather know.

Not into romances at all personally. I’m sure if I was it might appeal if I fell into an older age category.

Chuck in a dastardly plan for the woman and her younger bf to bump of the older man for the insurance money I would give it a go 😉

dodgedbullet · 22/06/2022 09:43

No, I don't read fantasy books.

JuneOsborne · 22/06/2022 09:44

Wrong genre for me.

Doesn't mean that people who like that genre would feel the same!

Showmethefood · 22/06/2022 09:44

I Think you’re right it would need another plot to go alongside it.

Harrystylestutu · 22/06/2022 10:02

Maybe if you spin it in a way where the reader thinks the younger man is the con artist or something, but the older lady is the villain.

adorablecat · 22/06/2022 10:02

It would need to be better written than your original post.

Showmethefood · 22/06/2022 10:17

@adorablecat i can improve my English , the question is could you improve your manners?

OP posts:
MonChienEstUneLégende · 22/06/2022 10:23

No I wouldn’t, sorry. I read lots of romance/chic lit books, but the older ages and the 30 year old man going after a much older woman wouldn’t appeal to me at all.

FedUpToTheBackTooth · 22/06/2022 10:32

No, sorry. I hate chick lit though so I’m probably not your target audience. The Agatha Raisin series has an older protagonist and does well but it is also a murder mystery series so that probably helps.

OldTinHat · 22/06/2022 10:33

I'd give it a whirl.

Cornettoninja · 22/06/2022 10:37

That’s a long winded way of saying ‘hi, I’m a tool”.

EvilEdna1 · 22/06/2022 10:38

I like books about older women but this would strike me as unrealistic so wouldn't appeal. Maybe if the man was older than 30s.

It was a bit blunt, but if I'm honest, I did find the plot summary a bit sparse and confusingly worded, sorry.

I would read that book (and in fact most books) if it was well written, with believable characters and a well paced storyline. I would avoid any book (regardless of plot) if it was badly written. I'm not saying I think the book will be badly written- just that plot isn't necessarily the be all and end all.

Suddha · 22/06/2022 10:47

Isn’t this the plot of Something’s Gotta Give? Diane Keaton is the older lady who’s dating Jack Nicholson (who was previously porking her daughter). Then she meets Keanu Reeves who is half her age and he pursues her.

Cornettoninja · 22/06/2022 11:18

That’s fair @JesusInTheCabbageVan. as a skeleton direction for a story to take it’s not terrible though.

OP have you started a draft of anything? That might give you more of an idea on what to flesh out.

Chaoslatte · 22/06/2022 11:28

No, it sounds a bit mundane. There would have to be some additional intrigue or social commentary or something for me. But I don’t tend to read romances.
