The dreaded evening urge to nibble. What are your ideas for low cal. snacks?

You know when you just want to EAT SOMETHING in the evening, but are trying to cut back on calories? If i just ignore the urge I often end up pigging on a pile of buttered toast at about 9pm 😣🙄

Better to be prepared! My ideas are:

Frozen grapes
Ice pops
Bowl of rice crispies

but i'm getting bored with them and too many frozen grapes give me the sh*ts. What do you have on standby?

Glass of sparkling water to fill your tummy up

Go for a walk

Go to bed earlier, or at least go upstairs. It is incredibly difficult to lose weight if you aren’t getting enough sleep.

@Kione all of that sounds lovely as a light meal in this heat. With some salad.

Part of my prob. is DHs need for massive amounts of calories as he has a very physical job. Often i could have a very light meal or skip it completely but i have to get out there and produce BIG FOOD! When it's hot like this i do often make separate meals for me and the DCs as we really can't face a typical full dinner. But it's a faff.

But you can have them as late snacks which is what the problem is?

Think all of my go-to snacks have been mentioned but just incase:

Melon,
Gherkins,
Pickled onions,
Cherry tomatoes,
Cheese with pineapple chunks,
Sugar free jelly (I prefer the ones you have to makeup yourself as I make them stronger and more firm than the ready made ones)
Laughing cow blue cheese triangles with rice cakes,
Chickpeas roasted in the oven with spices until crispy,
Miso soup,

A sort of trifle made up with sugar free jelly rolled with low sugar/low fat custard and a few hundreds and thousands on top of you're feeling fancy

Gherkins always work for me. Or other pickles. Raw nuts.

And me! Drink the vinegar too.
What about an oxo cube made into a drink in a mug ( 10 calories) ( salty and satisfying)

FartNRoses · 21/06/2022 19:36

I eat these if I ever have a ‘snacky/sweet craving. Not all the time because it was just be extortionate.

A few Whole raw almonds (skin on). Eaten one by one SLOWLY. Follow up with tea or a glass of water to wash them down. 🌹

Justrealised · 21/06/2022 20:10

😁i forgot gallo's Summer fruits rose wine too. If you're partial to a glass but want to keep if light. Very sweet tho.

I just figure if I'm gonna snack I want to make it count and feel less like diet food and more like snack food.

Olives?

Herbal tea?

Go for a walk instead? Quick round the block with the dog?

Bath?

Brush your teeth and go to bed?

Honestly, just don't snack. In the long run it is a million times easier to just eat proper meals that fill you up, then eat nothing until the next proper meal that fills you up. Get used to being hungry by the time the next meal comes round.

Otherwise you're always trying to find low-calorie snacks to eat all the time, you'll never get out of that spiral of blood sugar going up and down and always thinking about the next thing to eat, then it's far too easy for one rice cake to become two, then five, then fuck it I'll just have a proper biscuit etc, and before you know it you've eaten a full meal in snacks every day.

This is excellent advice

Sugar free jelly made with part water part 0% fat greek yoghurt, like a milk jelly. Yum.
