What would you make with a tin of ratatouille?

I've never used it before but I somehow have a tin in my cupboard and want to use it for a dinner. I was thinking of using it as a baked potato topping but wasn't sure if it'd be too sloppy.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. TIA

Serve with pasta or rice?

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 21/06/2022 15:55

With rice. But it won't be nearly as nice as fresh ratatouille.

Or you could use it in a lasagne.

Make a sauce to have with fish?

One of DH's friends from uni has a signature dish which is actually really tasty - fry a chopped onion, add garlic, herbs and Worcestershire sauce, then chopped gammon steak. Slop in a tin of ratatouille and a tin of chopped tomatoes. Serve over pasta with grated cheddar.

I personally like ratatouille on a jacket spud, as I like runny toppings.

SunflowerGardens · 21/06/2022 15:57

I use it as a substitute for meat in lasagne.

SausageRoll2020 · 21/06/2022 16:07

Maybe stir in some pasta or gnocchi, pop in a baking dish with cheese on top and pop in the oven for 20 mins or so.

Not sure exactly what tinned ratatouille would taste like but suppose you could add some extra herbs etc if needed and cheese makes everything taste better 🧀

Quick Spiced shepherds pie. Cook lamb mince, add ground cumin, coriander (fresh if I have it) chilli (fresh, ground or flakes) and a stock cube, chuck in tin of ratatouille. Top with mash (sweet potato is good) and crumbled feta.

Henerlo · 21/06/2022 16:45

Steak/chops etc. Just heat it up with a bit of balsamic vinegar to distract from the tinny taste and have it on the side maybe with polenta for a bit of texture contrast. It's a side/appetiser dish rather than an ingredient.

TheChosenTwo · 21/06/2022 16:46

I’d be making… a trip to deliver it to someone else! It sounds grim 😂

gingersplodgecat · 21/06/2022 16:48

I've put homemade ratatouille in a shallow dish, covered it with grated cheese and baked it in the oven, like a sort of gratin.

StEthelburgaRose · 21/06/2022 16:48

When I was late teens/ early 20s I used to add it to pasta with lots of cheese melted in. It was nice.

Henerlo · 21/06/2022 16:49

Ah come on it's fine. Not as great as fresh but it's just vegetables and sauce and it saves you time.

TabithaTittlemouse · 21/06/2022 16:49

As a later in lasagna

TabithaTittlemouse · 21/06/2022 16:49

*Layer!

PragmaticWench · 21/06/2022 16:53

I'd slice courgette thinly lengthwise, toss them in oil, herbs, garlic then roll each and place in an oven proof dish. Pour the ratatouille over the top, add grated or crumbled cheese if you wanted to and bake for 35 minutes. You could add finely sliced potatoes if you wanted it more filling.

A580Hojas · 21/06/2022 16:54

As tinned foods go, I think ratatouille is really nice! I do tend to have it on a baked potato (occasionally) with lots of cheese so it's a bit wintery.

WhatALoadOfWankiness · 21/06/2022 17:01

Just have it as a veg on the side and add a bit of celery salt
Make a lasagne and add some vegetable stock
With quiche and new potatoes
It's really nice

cushioncovers · 21/06/2022 17:01

I'd make it the base of my pasta sauce and add things until I got the flavour I wanted.

TitInATrance · 21/06/2022 17:03

I have it on couscous with grated cheese on top. It was in a diet plan many years ago and had stuck with me, super quick when I know I need to eat more veg.

JamMakingWannaBe · 21/06/2022 17:05

Cook sausage. Stir through tin of ratatouille, serve with mashed potato or rice with peas on the side.

daisyandsunshine · 21/06/2022 17:07

Baked potato, cover in the tin, add garlic, butter and lots of cheese on top, and some breadcrumbs if you have them.

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 21/06/2022 17:10

Make Pasta a la Student:
can ratatouille, can tomatoes, can butter beans or chickpeas, mix, heat, serve on pasta with grated cheese

BananaBreak · 21/06/2022 17:11

Thanks everyone. These all sound great.

Put ratatouille in oven proof dish. Add herbs. Slices of halloumi cheese on top, bake until cheese is browned.

54isanopendoor · 21/06/2022 17:20

Open the can - if it's not tooo sloppy I'd use it with puff pastry to make a tart. Perhaps add anchovies & olives & capers?

Or, if rather sloppy, I'd make a fresh omelette & bung the rats & cheese inside.
