I did it! I threw away all of the 'emergency knickers'

I feel strangely liberated and bereft.

Yes they had holes and the elastic was going - but in their better days they saw me through my dc's teens and a divorce - only for me to reject them now, after moving to a shiny new (downsized) house with less storage.

So should I buy a few more packs of sloggis as my new "best knickers" and move the best ones down the pecking order? Or is that defeating the object of rationalising the collection due to less space?

Being a bloke I need help with this. What the hell are "emergency knickers"? Stuff you keep for the likes of the relief of Mafeking? What's that about?

@LuckyAmy1986 I think so, there is a plant near here that takes old clothes and mulches them up into something like filler? Not really sure. But I would hope that is where old clothes that really are no good end up.

Also always put in torn/ ripped clothing. DH buy sacks of rags from charity shops many farmers/ mechanics/ god know who buy them

A gentleman should never enquire about a lady's undergarments. Tut tut.

Ones that you would wear if you had run out of clean knickers that you usually wear, the less good ones that just stay in the drawer. Or ones that you might wear during your period perhaps.

It's the ones you ONLY wear when all the others are in the laundry basket - they are probably grey with age and have the odd hole - the elastic is a bit loose due to your expanding and contracting waistline over the years. You have no idea what size they originally were. When you wear them you hope you dont get hit by a bus and prove your long dead mother right about being shamed in front of the ambulance crew ... those knickers.

Surely men have emergency boxers?

@dropthevipers in case some how every single pair of knickers in the house is unavailable for some mad unknown reason and you need to wear the knickers from 2013 with a hole and a lose elastic. Of course 🤓

I threw away some holey knickers this week and accidentally replaced them with midi ones. I'm very short waisted so they are like 'full briefs' on me. They are soooo comfy! I intend to replace all my knickers now! Even tthough DH calls them my Bridgets 😂

I have done the black socks thing though. Put it under life tips thread today... Many have great, deep mantras on there and I'm, just, buy the same socks always, dammit!!

I’ve been ill for 13 days now, currently holed up in bed, and this thread has made me happy 😂 you buy those sloggis I say! And as soon as I feel better I’m going to tackle my knicker drawer too. I have far too many pairs that I never wear and not enough of the type I like!

I did the same a few months ago but I threw all of my knickers out. I replaced them with some multipacks from Oddballs. I now have a monthly delivery of 2 knickers and a pair of socks every month from them. They're in crazy patterns and make me smile. The seamless bikini version are ridiculously comfy.

The only problem is that DH decided he fancied some jazzy pants and started a boxer subscription... we get the same pair of socks every month now.

That's nothing. The other day I clicked on a thread called "knob cleaning". Boy, was that a disappointment.

I did the same a few months ago. I now have five pairs of black, five of white, five of grey (intentionally grey, they haven’t just gone grey through age). It’s great. They match my bras now too!

Being menopausal means I got rid of all my period pants!
They were kept in a bag in my knicker drawer & were pretty much on their last legs but they served me well & meant my menstrual mishaps didn't ruin a nice pair of keks!

But then the whole special laundry bag ends up hiding in your duvet cover….
