What sandwich filling for 4year old party

For my dc's joint party with his friend we are doing individual lunch nags for each child. What would you put in the sandwich? We have 1 who doesn't eat pork or beef and one who is intolerant to dairy and soya. So we can do those separately. There will be other food in each bag so the children won't starve but I wanted to pick something I could do for most of them rather than send another message out asking for choices. What would you choose?

Chocolate spread

OneEyedPenguin · 20/06/2022 22:39

Cheese or jam.

I would do a triangle of 2/3 fillings in each
jam on white
ham on white
cream cheese on brown

packet of Pom bears/Tesco rabbits
packet of cookies/mini party rings
tube yoghurt
satsuma/mini apple (ideally berries or melon but they won’t work very well in a lunch bag)

smoothie carton/mini water

Greentomatoes21 · 20/06/2022 22:45

We did these but kept the sandwiches on platters (with cocktail sausages) for them to choose from. The lunch bags had crisps, a satsuma, a packet of haribo and a fruit winder. The sandwich choices were cheese, jam or ham. I thought they'd all go for jam but the ham sandwiches were the favourite by a mile!

Laquila · 20/06/2022 22:47

Personally I'd do jam and sliced (wafer-thin type) chicken or ham. (Not together!!) But really all they're interested in is Quavers 😃^^

Skyeheather · 20/06/2022 22:49

DS went to a birthday party recently where the Mum text everyone and asked whether the child would like ham, cheese or jam and each child got a lunch bag with their name on.

At all the other parties the sandwiches just came out on a tray (always ham, cheese or jam).

NameChange30 · 20/06/2022 22:50

For the child who doesn't eat dairy or soya: ham (make sure the bread is soya-free, and the spread is dairy-free).

For the child who doesn't eat pork or beef: cheese

All the other children can have cheese or ham

Plus maybe jam?

sunshineandshowers40 · 20/06/2022 22:52

Choice of ham, cheese or jam with extras available if neededSmile

SunflowerGardens · 20/06/2022 22:55

Sprinkles! Or ham/cheese. I made loads of ham for my 5 year olds and a couple of cheese and they all wanted cheese!

Clymene · 20/06/2022 23:02

Yep ham, jam or cheese. This is the way

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/06/2022 23:06

It doesn’t matter, they will only eat the sweet stuff and crisps

parents quite like hoovering up marmite sandwiches though

Punkypinky · 20/06/2022 23:15

In my limited birthday party experience so far the standard seems to be one of each of cheese, jam, ham - wrapped up together generally - (my dd has no dietary needs though so special bags may have been done for those who do).

She's never ever eaten one of them but she's a sod for not eating when she's distracted.

INeedNewShoes · 20/06/2022 23:16

I took orders for sandwiches and by far the most popular was ham on white bread.

Kids did eat the sandwiches, probably helped by the fact that I forgot to take the crisps 😱

OppsUpsSide · 20/06/2022 23:17

Tuna Mayo is always the most popular for school lunch orders

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/06/2022 23:20

I always did sausage rolls instead of sandwhiches for party food bags, with variations for dietary requirements.

carefullycourageous · 20/06/2022 23:23

Cheese. Ham is grim and to be blunt processed shit like that causes cancer, so I think it a poor choice!

bitofawait · 20/06/2022 23:28

I did one triangle of cheese and one of ham on white bread in each lunch bag .. leave what you don't like.

JingsMahBucket · 20/06/2022 23:33

It’s surprising no one is saying chicken or turkey. Why is that?

CavernousScream · 20/06/2022 23:35

Do you know the kids? What kids really want is peanut butter or Nutella. But you can only do that if there aren’t any allergies. I’ve always found chicken or Turkey is more popular than ham or cheese, but they’ll eat the other stuff rather than the sandwiches anyway.

motherofawhirlwind · 20/06/2022 23:35

For the dairy free kid(s), also check the ham is dairy free!

Surely it's less common. My kids both eat chicken or turkey, but don't like in in sandwiches. They also hate peanut butter and chocolate spread, Jam and honey. They will happily eat ham, cheese or cream cheese.

APurpleSquirrel · 20/06/2022 23:47

I've done several parties & Tuna Mayo is always the most popular. One child took 5 sandwiches home with them (no, they aren't malnourished or anything).
& can we please stop with the narrative that every child likes cheese! They don't! Mine don't. I don't. I do equal amounts of cheese sandwiches, ham sandwiches & tuna Mayo sandwiches at parties & there are always cheese ones left. Not to mention all the people who can't eat it. Please don't just give every child a cheese sandwich.

caringcarer · 21/06/2022 01:07

If offer cheese or ham cut into quarter triangles. A satsuma, baby bel, bag of crisps, tube yoghurt and mini milkyway.

twoandcooplease · 21/06/2022 01:28

Well I'm definitely having a jam sandwich for lunch tomorrow after seeing this...
