Online fabric…where do you get yours?

I’ve dragged the sewing machine out and I have loads of patterns to use! The nearest decent fabric shop to me is about an hours drive away, so not a quick trip. I’d really like to start buying online, but there’s so many retailers, I’m a bit lost! If anyone had any recommendations of places they order clothing fabric from (and aren’t disappointed by!) I’d love to hear them please!

Thanks in advance! 😊

For brand names and a wide range of choice plus trims etc I go to Plush Addict. I've also used a little independent called Fabric Fox who have quite unusual, bold prints and Japanese fabrics. For cheap and cheerful stuff to make little things for my children I sometimes look on eBay.

I should say I only really sew with cotton.

Ooh I have similar sewing plans.

Next on my list are the Jasika jacket from Closet Core, The Orchidee dress from Deer and Doe and a Fringe Dress from Chalk and Notch.

I'm trying to build up the courage to make a pair of jeans as well.

@pastabest I’ve just googled…that fringe dress is gorgeous!

I mainly buy from small independents (online). Like Sew Amazing, Guthrie & Ghani (my favourite), sew Me Sunshine, Sew Much Moor and Fabric Godmother mainly.

I've had some really bad quality stuff from Dalston Mill. Heard good things about Minerva, but not used them.

I do think you get what you pay for. I want my clothes to wash and wear well, and to last. And I prefer natural fibres (I've never used polyester), so I'm happy to pay a sensible amount for material. I like to support small businesses too - all these are run by really lovely ladies who offer great customer service.

So many small businesses are finding things tough right now, so if you are able to support an independent, they really appreciate it.

Second star has gorgeous stuff, I think its all jersey, but fab quality and really quirky prints. Flamingo fabrics is also great quality with great selection of fabric bases too

Another vote for Minerva, Dalston Mill & Fabricland
