Is Hague Blue over?

1895 house. Super high ceilings. Lovely fireplace.

DH’s dream is to do the fireplace wall in Hague Blue. Classy. Elegant.

Before I cast the deciding vote(!), please tell me… is Hague Blue over?!

Generally if something is classy and elegant it’s never really over. It’s a lovely colour and if you like it, you should go for it.

The one wall painted different from the rest though… that might be over (although not as much as having B A T H over your bath in big letters and that’s on the farrow and ball website Shock )

DjoChateaux · 19/06/2022 21:47

Does it matter? If you like it go for it.

SweetBabyJebus · 19/06/2022 21:47

Hague blue will NEVER be over 😁but do the whole wall, not just the chimney breast. And if I had a Victorian house with high ceilings, I would certainly do the entire room.

User76745333 · 19/06/2022 21:48

It isn’t “over” but it is everywhere

GayParis · 19/06/2022 21:48

Definitely not. Gorgeous colour, can look so classy while still looking modern!

PotatoFamily · 19/06/2022 21:53

Do the whole room, including the skirting and coving. Trust me. It makes the room HUGE

Howeverdoyouneedme · 19/06/2022 21:54

I still like this colour. (We have it in a bedroom). Definitely do the whole room.

Lochroy · 19/06/2022 21:55

I had never heard of it. First thought was that it must be an illness.

Having looked it up, I would say anything popular by F&B will date.

That doesn't mean you won't like it, or it won't be liked, but having painted over three dull as dishwater grey F&B 'feature' walls we inherited I'm not keen. And the paint is shit to use, shit to take care of and impossible to touch up.

NewHouseNoMoney · 19/06/2022 22:00

Yes we would do the whole wall not the just the chimney breast.

Hmm not sure if the whole room would be a bit too much? Lovely in autumn and winter but perhaps a bit dark for spring and summer?

We have decided - Hague Blue it is!

I think it looks lovely. My kitchen is teal and I won't be changing it anytime soon.

MyHusbandTheIdiot · 20/06/2022 12:28

No, but feature walls are. Please do the whole room.

RandomQuest · 20/06/2022 12:30

If you’re worried about anything being over it should be feature walls. Do the whole room!

fireandpaint · 20/06/2022 12:33

I love it but I think it's a bit of a cliche particularly a fireplace wall as it was all over Instagram a while ago. It will still look gorgeous though. What about de nimes or stiffkey?

DeePlume · 20/06/2022 20:51

I've done my fireplace wall in stiffkey blue. Not as dark as The Hague blue but still a lovely deep blue.

My room was too small to paint the whole thing blue. It made it seem cave like. Expensive mistake!

abbey44 · 20/06/2022 21:02

I have a small north-facing room that doesn't get much natural light, and in a very brave move (for me!) I had it painted in a colour-match of F&B Downpipe, a rich charcoal grey. (I was originally going for Hague Blue, but it didn't go with the rug I have in there). It looks FABULOUS and I am beyond happy with it. It's so very different to my normal style but I'm so glad I did it and not just a feature wall. I've had so many compliments about it too. I'm looking round my house now and wondering where else to be brave and experimental Grin

mizzo · 20/06/2022 21:07

I think it peaked years ago. It's a lovely colour though, there's a lovely old house we pass on the way to school that has the living room in Hague Blue it looks so good.

PaddleBoardingMomma · 20/06/2022 21:11

Gorgeous colour, but do the whole room!

PistachiokindaBear · 20/06/2022 21:37

Def the whole room! Feature walls are def a fad that's dead.

RebOrHon · 20/06/2022 21:46

I hope not! I have it in my dining room - on all the walls; seconding pp who vetoed the feature wall. It’s all or nothing!!

Summerwhereareyou · 20/06/2022 22:28

Abby would a pic be too outting!

I'd love to be that brave.

ediepop · 20/06/2022 23:39

My house is a similar age and has very high ceilings. The living room is NE facing and I had the whole room done in Hague blue about 5 years ago. It looks faaaabulous. I keep umming and ashing about repainting it, because I'm getting slightly bored of it, but it works so well I keep not doing it.

Lookingoutside · 21/06/2022 02:17

Hmm not sure if the whole room would be a bit too much? Lovely in autumn and winter but perhaps a bit dark for spring and summer?

Not at all. Definitely do the whole room including skirting and coving. Maybe a sideboard or cabinet too. It’s called colour drenching and can look stunning.

abbey44 · 21/06/2022 14:17

I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to colour drench (although I did paint the radiator), but this is my room... I haven't hung the pictures back on the wall yet, I'm still deciding what's going where. And the covers were straight before the dog joined in!

If you both love it, just do it, who cares what anyone else thinks?
