As title really! A long shot but any suggestions of a way I can cook them without an oven? Or any chance they can they be frozen?

Thanks in advance

Microwave in microwave safe dishes?

Never tried it but you can make mug cakes in a microwave so it might work!

Ooh that would be good but no I haven't. I was thinking about it though! Thanks anyway

Not really on that close terms with neighbours that I would feel comfortable asking either.

Think I may have to experiment with the microwave

Microwave will work ok but they don’t last well so need to be eaten asap.

TheLeadbetterLife · 19/06/2022 17:27

You can bake in a slow cooker, if you have one.

On the other hand, there are few things more delicious than uncooked cake mix.

WinnieTheWinsomeWitch · 19/06/2022 17:29

Bread machine?

EinsteinaGogo · 19/06/2022 17:35

You can steam cake batter, if it's just your oven that's broken but the hob still works.

Pan of boiling wages on the hob, cake tin on top, foil lid with some room for expansion... repeat with the second one after 20 mins or so (keep testing).

Yum!

Or freeze the raw batter. I would defo be confident giving it a defrost and whizz.

EinsteinaGogo · 19/06/2022 17:36

Wages??

Don't boil your wages. Water much better!

TeddyBeans · 19/06/2022 17:37

Pancakes!

I’ll arm wrestle you for it!

NeedToKnow101 · 19/06/2022 17:41

I thought my oven died, but it just doesn't go on if no timer is set. Could you have the same issue?

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 19/06/2022 17:41

Ask a neighbour.

Hellhaven · 19/06/2022 17:51

Microwave is great if it's a sponge pudding to be immediately eaten but become rather dry when cooled imho

I'd freeze and bake once oven fixed/replaced

JaninaDuszejko · 19/06/2022 17:53

Ask a neighbour with the promise of some cake in payment. Fingers crossed you live on my street 🤞🏻.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 19/06/2022 17:55

Mug cake (more like a steamed pudding) - add a spoonful of syrup/jam at the bottom of the mug, add mix halfway up the cup, microwave for around 30 seconds 2-3 times.

Steaming - put small pots/cases on a plate over a pan of boiling water, cover with a teatowel, put lid on, allow to steam. Or leave it in the bowl and put that over the pan for a larger one (make sure you've taken out enough first to keep the eating from the mixing bowl experience).

Pancakes. Put in frying pan with butter as the fat, cook on low heat.

Cake batter is cake batter. It will cook and be perfectly edible with any addition of heat or variation of depth and diameter.

Notanotherwindow · 19/06/2022 17:55

Lick it!

This is a great idea, but I must confess that seeing your username and ‘mug cake’ juxtaposed gave me pause for a minute 😁

greenacrylicpaint · 19/06/2022 18:01

is your microwave a combi thingy?

many are.

dig out the manual

OperationRinka · 19/06/2022 18:03

You can make excellent madeleines from cake batter in a Breville sandwich toaster.

ItsTheTreasure · 19/06/2022 18:20

I really need to up my game on the kitchen appliances clearly! Thanks for all the ideas. I'm going to freeze one lot and cook the ones that had gone in the oven when it died (only in for 5 mins or so) after dinner. Not sure whether to just microwave for pudding or steam. Either way will add ice cream if they're dry!

check bbc recipes for advice about cooking in microwaves - I have used a small pyrex bowl be aware they do rise more than you think!!! I have done microwave fruit cakes & chocolate flavoured cakes in the past!

mumwon · 19/06/2022 18:26

(if they are dry serve with warm custard or make trifle - I tend to keep a birds trifle mix in for emergencies & it vegetarian! )
