Where would you recommend for a city break. Done London loads. I’ve heard good things about Manchester. We are after good places to eat and drink, shopping and some culture/places to see. Suggestions please :)

Just been to Bristol, loved it! I’m from Manchester btw. I loved the harbour area, the shopping area looked great too. Loads of bars and restaurants, plenty of culture too. I would say Liverpool and Manchester are both worth a visit too

Went to Bath, it’s nice and the baths are interesting as are the buildings and history etc but I wouldn’t rush back. I preferred other cities over it: Edinburgh, York, Chester, Oxford to name a few.

I'm not sure I'd agree about the public transport!! £1.80 to anywhere on Edinburgh's frequent buses!

I’m from Greater Manchester and think the public transport is crap. Should be better but buses/trains and trams all don’t run as they should at times.

DEFINITELY not Worcester which I find hard to kill an hour in!

Liverpool, loads to do around the dock area, plenty of really good places to eat, and great shopping, all walkable.

Good choice - also easy to get to Chester from there so you can combine the two.

Great choice, we loved it there and so will you!

And on a future break - I’d highly recommend Stratford on Avon which I spent a week in and it’s still not long enough. Easy access to lots of other places too like Warwick Castle

That article is funny @riesenrad . “St Davids was once the capital of Wales.” 🙄

Liverpool or York.

If you do Liverpool, you have the Albert Docks. There is also a great tour starting at the Martime Museum which tells you all about the history of the docks which was really interesting. The Maritime Museum itself is great, there is also the Beatles Story at the docks as well as lovely places to eat overlooking the Albert Dock. You can do a ferry across the Mersey (you don't have to get off, you can just come back but it's nice to see the waterfront from the Wirral side. There is the Museum of Liverpool at the Pier Head. There are the shops snd eateries in Liverpool one but mostly chains. For more independent places to eat, try Bold Street, or try Villa Romana on Wood Street (parallel to Bold Street) which is a great Italian with a fab dessert trolley!

At the other end of town from the docks, you can do the Walker Art gallery, the World Museum, take in a show at the Empire theatre.

If you want to venture outside the centre you can get tickets via the national Trust to tour Paul McCartney and John Lennon's childhood homes which was fascinating.

Depending how long you are there, you can easily hop on a train to Chester too and spend a day there.
