Anyone else giving up selling on Vinted?

Just that really. I did have a great experience buying and selling for ages but I've just had a bad experience with a scammer and they did nothing about it. Even forced me to communicate with a buyer who had been abusive to me.

I sold a designer item for £30, never worn. The buyer raised a dispute that there was a large pen mark on it (there def wasn't, pictures I took clearly show it was in perfect condition), she sent some quite rude and aggressive messages, with some anti-Welsh sentiment in there too (my town displayed has a pretty Welsh name).

I reported but it was deemed not to breach their rules. Despite my evidence Vinted ruled that if she returned it she could have a refund, but I would need to send my address, I told them I did not want to communicate with the buyer again but they insisted that I did or else it woukld rule in their favour. Gutted I'm out of pocket and now have a damaged item.

Are there any other platforms other than ebay out there?

How do you expect her to return it without your address? 🤔

JustRestingMyEyesForAMinute · 16/06/2022 08:15

I'm in a similar boat, not the abuse thank goodness (that's terrible!), just very slow sales, some cheeky people and a bit fed up with it in general. I have found that whenever I've contacted Vinted about anything it just disappears into a black hole and isn't really dealt with properly at all.

I've listed on depop but not sold anything or had much interest. I've sold lots on eBay but obviously there are the costs involved and it's also a bit shit for sellers.

I've had some lovely experiences with really nice buyers on Vinted so perhaps I just need a little break from it. I did take a month off earlier this year because I was fed up and when I came back to it I was fine. I don't think I'm cut out for a job in sales 😄

I asked them to send her my address so I did not have to communicate with her again.

Yeah perhaps a break might be good, I was really enjoying it before this happened.

Yes I've stopped
I'd rather give it all to the charity shop
There are some CF on there

latetothefisting · 16/06/2022 08:39

I have -haven't had any problems with buying or selling but in the last few weeks they've removed the custom shipping option so you can only use their pre printed labels. So you cant use, for example the qr code printing royal mail/evri use if you buy postage yourself online, nor can you just go to the shop and pay yourself. As I don't have a printer this means I can't send anything!

Their customer service has been so crap when I've complained about this that I don't want to use them any more anyway!

The rest of the app works without you actually giving your address to someone else.

I've sold a few things on Vinted with no problem, but I don't like how you don't get paid straight away, so there is a period of time when you don't have the item or the money for it. Much prefer Ebay's way of doing things. Also I've noticed people make much more cheeky offers on Vinted than Ebay for some reason. Which is not really a problem, but why would someone think you'd sell something listed at £75 to them for £20?

daffodilandtulip · 16/06/2022 08:56

I had a buyer complain that the item was poor condition but refused to show evidence so Vinted supported me and she had to still pay.
I've sold quite a lot of kids stuff for the amount I wanted.
However, now it seems to be getting more popular, you are starting to get the Facebook market place type comments "deliver hun?" (When you don't even post your area!) and telling you the price they want it for.

HRHBreathMints · 16/06/2022 09:05

The cheeky offers are making me so mad. A Brand new with tags rrp £75 dress - offers of £2

Towellingtub399 · 16/06/2022 09:25

Sorry you've had a bad experience. I'm still finding it really useful. Sold lots and had lots of great bargains. I did have an issue once where I was sold counterfeit trainers, I had a refund within 5 days and didn't have to return them. As a seller the most expensive thing I've ever sold was £15, I don't think I'd risk much more than that. Have a break from it.

kagerou · 16/06/2022 10:04

I had a terrible buyer lie about items arriving stained despite them being hardly worn and photographed clean the day they were sent off. She couldn't provide photos for ages (kept saying they wouldn't upload or some such bs) then eventually sent 1 photo of one item (she bought 2 things that included a set with 3 items) with a clearly wet and fresh stain on. Luckily she was too selfish by half and wanted to both keep the items and receive a refund so she marked them having no problem before complaining.

Where vinted really let me down was that she left a nasty, untrue comment including the lie that she had been refunded when she hadn't but vinted refused to take it down despite clearly confirming she had not received a refund.

Whole experience really put me off vinted

TrufflyPig · 16/06/2022 10:13

@kagerou Sorry to hear that, its quite a rubbish feeling isn't it?

This buyer is likely to leave a horrible review for me too which may put off other buyers. Vinted were not bothered about the nastiness of her messages.

I was banned from vinted after trying to sell a pair of converse. Genuine converse, with a proof of purchase, all the required photos, selling it with the original packaging. They decided I was selling an inauthentic item and banned me forever on the spot. Even sending them further proof that the item is genuine hasn't helped.

NippyWoowoo · 16/06/2022 13:22

How does the scammer benefit from having to send the item back though? Seems like a lot of hassle to go through to have to send something back for your money. Or am I missing something?

Charlavail · 16/06/2022 14:13

The effort of printing while I'm on maternity leave put me off. Especially as people only want to pay £2 per item. 🙄

Buyer remorse: buyer buys item but when they receive it, decide it doesn't fit or they don't like it. The easiest thing for them to do is to deface the item and blame the seller, claiming a full refund including return P&P. I stopped selling on eBay for this and many reasons like it. It's always the seller who suffers.

Same. I've taken everything off Vinted now. I was selling a brand new summer bag. It was from Primark with the price tag on showing £7, which is how much I paid. I found the bag a year or so after I'd bought it and decided it wasn't really my style, hence I'd never used it.

I put it on at £6 thinking I'd maybe accept £5. I had an offer for £2 and replied asking them not to take the mickey. The person who made the offer went mad, telling me I was "trying to make a profit out of her" and that the whole point of Vinted was to "grab a bargain". I explained politely that I was offering to sell the bag, brand new with tags and in perfect condition, for less than I'd paid which is not making a profit. She threw back at me, and I kid you not, said "seller's like you (me) were trying to take advantage of people who have very little money and exploring the fact that the cost of living crisis meant many people couldn't afford to pay their bills". I explained that sellers on Vinted also have bills to pay and many would be selling their items for next to nothing to try and pay their own bills. I asked why she felt sellers did not have any bills and asked if that "exploitation" included buyers offering £2 for an item worth £7 was in any way fair on the seller.

Anyway, she replied "so are you going to sell it to me for £2 or what?".

She got told in no uncertain terms to fuck right off and I blocked her.

Vinted CAN be such a pleasurable experience for buyers and sellers but people are abusing it now and as the OP of this thread demonstrates, some people are just vile and although there are no fees, it's barely worth bothering with these days. The amount of unfair offers and hassle sellers get just makes the small prices most people ask for items worth far more just makes it not worth the time or effort. Very sad.

KitKattaktik · 16/06/2022 14:32

I've given up on vinted because of two nasty buyers who demanded a full refund without returning the clothing (for the fact that a rope belt has deliberately frayed ends, mentioned in the description and photo showing the belt) and then they (both conveniently living in the same postcode) left me appalling feedback which vinted has said is the buyers opinion and they can't do anything about it.

Vinted also refunded them both so I'm down the money and the clothes. I'll not bother again. Would much rather give it to the chazzer.

Kona84 · 16/06/2022 14:45

postage - in your settings you can change to yodel and Royal Mail only and turn off evri
if the buyer chooses yodel you get a barcode to use to print off at the drop off point.
if they use Royal Mail you end up losing about £1 because unless you have a printer you need to purchase postage in store and it is a bit more expensive than online.

i do get frustrated that everything seems to go for 1-5pounds.
I have sold a couple of items for £15 but not frequently.
its good for getting bargains but the postage costs sometimes put me off buying

TrufflyPig · 16/06/2022 15:27

I've hidden my items now, just going to buy for a while.

Agree with the cheeky offer, I think I'm quite reasonably priced but some offers it not worth walking to the post office for!

Bracing myself for the awful feedback! Don't know why it's bothering me so much!

I spent ages putting loads of clothes on there - really cheap! Sold 2 things 🤣 it wasn’t worth the effort of going to the two different post places, so I’ve deleted the lot and I’ll take it to charity instead. If you need space, you just want it all gone ASAP. I haven’t got time to be waiting around for weeks and weeks for something to make me £2!

drps2022 · 23/11/2022 20:55

I’m new to vinted about a week I listed items including brand new T-shirt jumper and pyjamas and a womens jumper the buyer then bundled them paying only 8.00 now she’s coming at me asking for a refund for all items as they are not size 14 I listed pictures stating which size they are I’m not sure where I stand

I’ve sold DC’s old clothes without any issues. I did have a buyer who bought a coat and then bombarded me with bizarre questions about the fabric composition. She said the coat had to have a snow skirt which I’d never heard of before but I didn’t understand why she’d paid for the item without checking first. She proceeded to tell me she was taking her daughter to Lapland so the coat had to have this ‘feature’. I just posted it to her and said I had no clue.

Siameasy · 23/11/2022 22:04

So far I’ve had the odd blip but I’ve sold about 150 things. I buy off there loads and if it doesn’t fit I re sell.
One person left me a poor review because the item I had explicitly described as a vintage size 10 ie likely to be smaller than a current 10 didn’t fit her 🙄
I’ve had some decent interactions actually. I sold off-site a few times as well (they didn’t find out)
