Anyone else giving up selling on Vinted?

Just that really. I did have a great experience buying and selling for ages but I've just had a bad experience with a scammer and they did nothing about it. Even forced me to communicate with a buyer who had been abusive to me.

I sold a designer item for £30, never worn. The buyer raised a dispute that there was a large pen mark on it (there def wasn't, pictures I took clearly show it was in perfect condition), she sent some quite rude and aggressive messages, with some anti-Welsh sentiment in there too (my town displayed has a pretty Welsh name).

I reported but it was deemed not to breach their rules. Despite my evidence Vinted ruled that if she returned it she could have a refund, but I would need to send my address, I told them I did not want to communicate with the buyer again but they insisted that I did or else it woukld rule in their favour. Gutted I'm out of pocket and now have a damaged item.

Are there any other platforms other than ebay out there?

How does the scammer benefit from having to send the item back though? Seems like a lot of hassle to go through to have to send something back for your money. Or am I missing something?

Because they don’t want to send it back. They want it for free

I don’t have a printer…. All their options seem to have QR code options now

I bought a kaftan that arrived today and I have never smelt a more vile smell in my life. It actually is putting me off buying again. I don't know what she washed it in or if anything. I am still grossed out. I have washed it 3 times and it still smells.

I was banned from vinted after trying to sell a pair of converse. Genuine converse, with a proof of purchase, all the required photos, selling it with the original packaging. They decided I was selling an inauthentic item and banned me forever on the spot. Even sending them further proof that the item is genuine hasn't helped.

I almost got banned for the same thing.
I put a pair of brand new Dr Martens shoes on there, complete with box, but in their drop down brand / label menu, there was no Dr Martens option, so I wrote the brand in the description.
A few seconds later I had a message that they had hidden the listing and fake items etc.
I had to take a load more photos including the information label on the inside of the shoes.
I complained to them about not having the brand in their drop down menu, but I just got the generic term and conditions email in response.
It's ridiculous. If they don't list a brand, then how can I tell any potential customers what the brand is!

Same. I've taken everything off Vinted now. I was selling a brand new summer bag. It was from Primark with the price tag on showing £7, which is how much I paid. I found the bag a year or so after I'd bought it and decided it wasn't really my style, hence I'd never used it.

I put it on at £6 thinking I'd maybe accept £5. I had an offer for £2 and replied asking them not to take the mickey. The person who made the offer went mad, telling me I was "trying to make a profit out of her" and that the whole point of Vinted was to "grab a bargain". I explained politely that I was offering to sell the bag, brand new with tags and in perfect condition, for less than I'd paid which is not making a profit. She threw back at me, and I kid you not, said "seller's like you (me) were trying to take advantage of people who have very little money and exploring the fact that the cost of living crisis meant many people couldn't afford to pay their bills". I explained that sellers on Vinted also have bills to pay and many would be selling their items for next to nothing to try and pay their own bills. I asked why she felt sellers did not have any bills and asked if that "exploitation" included buyers offering £2 for an item worth £7 was in any way fair on the seller.

Anyway, she replied "so are you going to sell it to me for £2 or what?".

She got told in no uncertain terms to fuck right off and I blocked her.

Vinted CAN be such a pleasurable experience for buyers and sellers but people are abusing it now and as the OP of this thread demonstrates, some people are just vile and although there are no fees, it's barely worth bothering with these days. The amount of unfair offers and hassle sellers get just makes the small prices most people ask for items worth far more just makes it not worth the time or effort. Very sad.

So after delivery you think someone wants to buy a primark bag for more than it's actually worth?

I list things then periodically remove it and give it all away. I only really sell kids clothes. Most is for under £2 but often people don't bundle up so I'm out driving parcels to drop off points for £2.

Even kids Monsoon and Boden dresses used get no interest under £4. It was the same on ebay after fees. I've got olders boys immaculate Next trousers for £2 with no views.

At least the listing part takes no time so listing itself isn't a waste of time. It's a saturated market.

BunnyNumNum · 10/08/2023 05:24

Where works to sell things now? EBay is slow and expensive. I used to sell loads on Facebook groups but nothing shifts any more.

OP, I had an issue with a pair of sandals. The buyer said they didn’t fit and wanted to return them. She bought them for £7 from memory. I just instructed a refund in the app and the buyer sent them back - she had to pay for postage. They came back to my evri shop in a few days and then I processed the app for her. The odd thing was her postage costs to send and return cost the same as the sandals so I couldn’t make her understand there really was no point in returning them. I did it for an easy life.

I have made the decision not to sell anything for more than £10 on Vinted now. Thankfully, my transactions have all been great bar the above. If anything does happen going forward my loss in minimal and I will just write it off.

I love vinted! Been selling mostly decent label stuff - and buying it. Tbh I wouldn’t buy second hand cheap stuff that probably wasn’t great quality in the first place. I’ve sold at decent prices and got some bargains too. Had one bad experience with buyer who complained to Vinted that she deserved a refund because the item didn’t fit - luckily Vinted agreed with me a released payment to me. No complaints.

pumpkintits · 10/08/2023 07:06

Vinted customer service is absolutely appalling. I had no problems for ages and then I received the wrong item. I raised it with them 6 weeks ago and they said they are waiting for a response from the dispatch company. I still have not had a response but keep getting messages asking for my patience and sending me God's blessings (the way the messages are phrased makes me think it's not a UK customer service team).

After 4 weeks I sent a message saying enough was enough and they were a big enough company they could afford to just refund me my £8, but nope, it's not in their jurisdiction to do this and I just have to wait, and wait, and wait...

I had an issue with a separate order I never received and that seemed to be dealt with in 24 hours and my refund was issued. No idea how to get through to them on the phone as I'm getting fed up now.

I had added lots of stuff a few months ago and got rid of most of it but have definitely noticed since I’ve added more recent stuff it’s either not sold or I’ve had offers of like under £2. I had an item on for £2 and if it was in person there is no way someone would start offering you less than that, either take it or leave it, but I had someone start offering things like £1.20. For the sake of 80p I wasn’t wasting my time even having a conversation about it 😑

Heatherbell1978 · 10/08/2023 07:18

I love Vinted but I never sell anything for more than £10. Likewise I rarely buy anything for more than £10. The vast majority of the stuff I sell is kids stuff so that works fine. I think I lot of sellers forget that you need to add postage on which immediately adds £2-3 to the price. Further down the thread a lady was saying that she listed a brand new Primark bag she bought for £7 for £6. So why would I pay about £9 for a bag bought for £7? Something offered £2 which feels right as that's £5 for a second hand Primark bag. At the end of the day it's second half stuff, you can't expect the same price you bought it for.

Beargrumps22 · 10/08/2023 07:27

i used to sell loads but sales slowed right down and when i do sell it seems complain complain complain. i sell a lot of jewellery for a pound but people dont read the ads. they then complain its been used/ is not vgc/ is not what they thought it was. i wish they would read the description and at the end of the day its a pound this week i had a complain that the slight bit of fringing on the necklace was a bit worn and had come slightly unhooked on one side in the envelope a simple bit of putting it back on! i like buying on there but shall not put anything on for sale at the moment

I agree. You see loads of stuff that works out the same or more expensive by the time you add postage and sellers are confused why it's not selling. £2 pre postage is perfectly reasonable for a primark bag that has been sat around for a year therefore likely ended up in the sale for about £2 anyway. Obviously the potential buyer should have just scrolled by once offer was refused but it was far from a cheeky offer

Whyohwhyohwhy123 · 10/08/2023 07:34

I sell things with a nice label for between £24-£14 and I’ll always knock £2 off, these items are new without tags. Clothing I sell for between £1-£5 and it has slowed down. I feel it’s got to be comparable with charity shop prices to shift as the fees and postage add up for the buyer. I’ve had a couple of good buys but a couple of awful smelly ones so I mainly sell now.

deadassjackie · 11/08/2023 12:15

Tried and tested tip for stuff that smells - shake it up in a bin bag with a load of bicarbonate of soda, leave for 24 hours then wash. It usually works.
