Price rises in the shops - what are you seeing?

What items have you seen go up in the shops? I went to my co-op to buy milk yesterday. The regular kind was £1.55 (same as always, I think?) but organic had gone up to £2.55 😧😧😧(was £1.85 a few weeks ago)!! Also a bag of three paprikas was £1.60, has always been £1 for the last few years. (I’m in Central London if that matters).

Non-food: internet was £25 and has gone up to £28 since the pandemic (under introductory contract) and now will be £38 when introductory contract ends.

I’m a nurse and won’t get an increment this year, plus our pay rise is meant to be published but they’re saying it’ll be 3%. I’m pregnant with baby number two and feeling panicked often on how we are going to make this work. We are lucky to have two incomes, I don’t know how others will survive. Anyone else in a similar situation?

Butter. 1.90. It was 1.40 for ages.

megletthesecond · 14/06/2022 06:42

My favourite crisps in M&S have gone up from £1 to £1.25.

sleepysleepybed · 14/06/2022 06:42

Lots of things that were 85p now 99p and things that were £1.40-£1.60 now around £2 mark. Makes a big difference when buying over 20 items within this price range.

The cynic in me does wonder how much genuinely is to cover rising costs and how much is a bandwagon thing of a broad brush approach because everything else and everyone else is doing it.

I have downgraded items in some cases, such as bread and some sauces and trying a few different butters and spreads.

Salmon. Been mainstream, not luxury, for years. It's doubled in price over the last 6 months.

Fishfingers have shot up too.

We don't each much meat but salmon is my treat and DD loves fishfingers. I might be going veggie at this rate.

crossstitchingnana · 14/06/2022 06:42

Co-op milk was £1.55 but in ours you could get 2 for £2.50. Not now.

crossstitchingnana · 14/06/2022 06:43

Also, packets are getting smaller. Same price, less product.

JuneJubilee · 14/06/2022 06:45

Weekly shopping delivery. I notice 5-10 p on various items each week. Loads on veg/salad items last week.

carefullycourageous · 14/06/2022 06:45

Eggs seem pretty eye-watering, but really it is just everything :-(

I feel lucky because we are vegetarian and so our kids are used to/enjoy some pretty thrifty meals already!

I know what you mean about a pay rise that is actually a pay cut. I particularly love that wage rises would be inflationary but pension rises are not 😡

teablanket · 14/06/2022 06:45

Everything in sainsburys seems to have been bumped up 20p-£1.

It's hitting veg too & veg protein.

gas cylinder for soda stream - last year £10 - £14.99 at weekend.

Sadly it is real and will go higher. Brexit isn't fucking helping either, a heartfelt thanks to everyone who voted for that shitshow.

Flidina · 14/06/2022 06:48

Bread buns, in my local bakery, pack of 6, £1.25 used to be £1, and now only half the size. They also sold 4 Sausage rolls £1, now £1.25 and a lot smaller.

I bet Farage and his millions and his mates are not worrying about this!

Packs of watermelon have gone up a lot in Asda

FlamingGoat · 14/06/2022 06:55

Our weekly shop has definitely doubled in price. I compared this weeks with a similar one last year.

Everything is twice the price being gluten free. My bread is a smaller pack and is now £2.50 in some shops. Asdas own has jumped to £1.60. A small single pie is £3.50 whereas a pack of 4 non GF is £2.50.

DockOTheBay · 14/06/2022 06:56

Everything is going up.
6 pint bottle of milk used to be £1.50, went to £1.65 around Autumn time. In April it was £1.85, yesterday £1.99!

Meat in Asda was on 3 for £10, is now 2 for £7 and they've removed quite a few of the options such as lamb from the offer. Other things are smaller packs

A lot of staples have gone from £1 to £1.25

Mol1628 · 14/06/2022 06:57

My hair cuts. Only get a basic cut and blow dry but it’s gone up again and I’m not sure I can justify it.

They've always been around £12 in my experience. I've had a sodastream for about 10 years. Was the £10 a special offer?

This is where we are in a death spiral 😔

The government is just sitting on their hands.

stickershock · 14/06/2022 07:05

@carefullycourageous i share your 😡 with the discrepancy between pension inflation and wage inflation decisions! Pensions aside, my wage has gone down 25 quid per month since the NI hike.

@crossstitchingnana yes, shrinkflation!

We are mostly vegetarian so haven’t noticed as much with meat. I have found on my nectar card I have deals (had butter for £1.38 recently so bought about 4 packets!) but yes Sainsbury’s prices have gone up quite a bit too. We don’t have an Aldi or Lidl near us unfortunately so I’m not able to take advantage of those shops prices. Also working shifts I sometimes pop to the “local” Sainsbury or Tesco on my way to work for a top-up item but they’ve gotten exorbitant. They’ve alwYs been priced a bit higher than the larger shops but I saw a pack of four apples for £2.60, a couple months back I believe it was a six pack for £1.60/1.80 or so. It’s exhausting trying to do my food budget.

I work in retail, it definitely is to cover costs. all.of my suppliers are struggling, two went bust recently and others are on their way.

I notice it mostly in fruit, 20p/30p here and there, and milk was £1.09 for 4 pints in Lidl and now it is £1.29. We're lucky to have lidl and Aldi nearby, the prices in metro/express/local supermarkets are even higher

QuebecBagnet · 14/06/2022 07:06

Butter
eggs
blueberries

i looked at some processed fish in Iceland last week and decided it was too expensive! When Iceland seems dear there’s something wrong!

stickershock · 14/06/2022 07:07

@Mol1628 i haven’t had a haircut since before the pandemic😳 We were paying so much for childcare that I couldn’t justify it any longer. (Also have stopped getting bikini waxed and eyebrows done as I did pre-baby, those seem like absolute luxuries that are completely out of reach now!)
