I'm 7 months pp now and about 1kg above my original weight. I gained 14kg in pregnancy and lost 10kg just gradually without active effort til my weight plateaued. Started making active effort about 1 1/2 months ago and lost 3kg.

Had ds when I was 28. 9 stone to 12. Got back to 9 stone in about ten months I think. Most of it fell off really quickly and with zero effort (just lots of pram walking and breastfeeding) but the last half a stone was a bit more stubborn!

I'm 32 now and have a nearly 3 month old. I'm just over 10 and a half stone. I know I'll get back to 9 stone again, it'll just take a bit of time - especially as I gained 4 stone in my most recent pregnancy not 3!

11 days.

this is not a smug post - because in the intervening years I’ve managed to put it all back on. And more.

Rainbows89 · 12/06/2022 15:43

My pregnant weight didn’t hang around for long. It honestly dropped off pretty fast.

but I have struggled with my weight since and am now heavier than pre pregnancy 😔

Pixies74 · 12/06/2022 15:56

With DC1, it was about six weeks but I put on less than 2 stones and she was 8lbs 8oz, so I only had about 10lbs to lose after a couple of days post-partum.

With DC2, it was nearer a 3 stones weight gain (exercise down, doughnut consumption up with a one-year-old 🤣) but I think it still only took a few months.

I think I'm quite lucky with a fast metabolism though.

Pixies74 · 12/06/2022 15:57

Oh and I was 33 and 35 (and about 8-8.5 stones each time).

Pixies74 · 12/06/2022 16:02

Though I think the reason I didn't put that much on with DC1, was that I actually lost a few pounds in the first trimester as I felt so nauseous I couldn't eat!

NoodletheSchnoodle · 12/06/2022 16:39

2 weeks after DS was born I was 1lb less than I weighed at 4 weeks pregnant.
Complete freak of nature! First week spent in hospital trying to establish breastfeeding, not eating and stress levels at the max I think.
Weight fluctuated a bit over the next couple of years then dropped to an all time low after a lot of stress and again not making time to eat properly. (ds around 2 years old at this time)
Since then the weight crept back on and I'm now the same weight I was at 38 weeks pregnant, and look chunkier then ever (and I hate it Sad)

In France, pregnant women are under the care of a gynaecologist not a midwife and they are very strict on excessive weight gain. They will tell you off if you gain more than 1 kg per month. For my first , I gained 11 kgs, and it was a constant reprimand, even if I was slim to start with.
As a result, very few women gain huge amounts, and with hindsight, it is way easier to go back to pre-baby weight, if you didn't gain enormous amount.

How infantilising. I wouldn’t stand for being ‘told off’ by Health professionals or being weighed either. Everyone is different and anxiety about weight gain could be very damaging.

RampantIvy · 12/06/2022 18:56

Is it "infantilising" though or is it advice that no-one wants to hear?

jumperoozles · 12/06/2022 18:59

Around 5 months - breastfeeding and pushing a pram for miles every day

eddiemairswife · 13/06/2022 09:41

When I had my (4) children it was customary to be weighed at every check-up during pregnancy. I gather this doesn't happen anymore. Why is that?

RampantIvy · 13/06/2022 11:13

I never got weighed once. DD was born in 2000.

My midwife told me it's because for the majority of women there was no clinical benefit of doing so. And it can have adverse effects e.g. increase stress/worry for the woman or make her too focused on weight gain (gaining too much/little). If a women's weight is a concern then the midwife can of course weigh her. I was weighed once at around 32 weeks I think - part of a routine midwife appointment. No comment was ever made on my weight (I have no weight issues).

I was back in my pre pregnancy jeans within 2 weeks however 6 months maternity leave where all i did was eat ensured I was heavier than ever by the time I got back to work.

AllTheMonacles · 13/06/2022 12:54

I lost at least a stone in all my pregnancies,
although gained it all back when breastfeeding.
With my first I was a size 12 when I got pregnant and size 8 by the time she was born.
