How long did it take you to get to your pre pregnancy weight?

I'm not there yet....almost... so far 13 months and counting! I did get pretty huge though.

Five days. All my pregnancy weight gain was baby, fluid and placenta. DD was an eight and a half pounder - I looked like a stick insect that had swallowed a beach ball! But I was back to 8 stone 5lbs by the fifth day post partum. It’s always easier to avoid excess weight gain in the first place, than try to lose it afterwards.

Fuzzyduckduckyfuzz · 11/06/2022 22:57

16 years and counting 🙄🤣

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 11/06/2022 22:58

I'm 17 years in ( 2 pregnancies and 3 kids) and still look 6 months gone!

But then I'm greedy and lazy and come from a family of fatties so it's not surprising...

30 years and still not back to pre- pregnancy weight!

I wasn't someone who put on a lot of weight so it's not personal to me - but this is so tone-deaf.

Many women don't have control over weight gain in pregnancy or loss afterwards, to the extent your comment suggests.

My friend who put on weight easily in pregnancy could only tolerate carbs when sick early on; nothing mad, but she found she just put on weight so quickly.

Weight gain & loss during & after pregnancy are complicated.

MolliciousIntent · 11/06/2022 22:59

About 3 days, both times. I never put on any weight apart from baby, water and placenta either time, and had quite severe morning sickness - with both pregnancies I didn't gain any weight at all til 6m because I was so ill.

My body shape is different though, both pregnancies changed the shape of my ribcage.

mummabubs · 11/06/2022 22:59

I'm also 13 months post DC2. With my first child I never really got back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I got within about 5lbs of it but then my body shape changed a lot during pregnancy so my body looked very different afterwards anyway if that makes sense? With my second child I'd say I was pretty stagnant until about a month ago which coincides with both me being so busy with the two kids that I forget to eat and also I've started to wind down breastfeeding to just two feeds so I think my appetite has decreased too. After DC1 I decided the scales weren't my friend at all so I haven't actually weighed myself in a few years, no idea what I weigh now but I know I'm one dress size larger than my pre-pregnancy weight due to my expanded rib cage and delightfully wide hips. 😅

Stupidpeoplesuck · 11/06/2022 22:59

How do you not understand that? No need to humblebrag for attention 😂

Don’t become a midwife with that sort of advice

Babdoc is (was) a doctor!

As in, think possibly retired, not that she stopped being one!

Cormoran · 11/06/2022 23:07

In France, pregnant women are under the care of a gynaecologist not a midwife and they are very strict on excessive weight gain. They will tell you off if you gain more than 1 kg per month. For my first , I gained 11 kgs, and it was a constant reprimand, even if I was slim to start with.
As a result, very few women gain huge amounts, and with hindsight, it is way easier to go back to pre-baby weight, if you didn't gain enormous amount.

Thecomfortador · 11/06/2022 23:10

Not sure I really fully returned to my pre pregnancy weight, but then lockdown happened and I piled on a stone or two. Don't think I'll ever get back anywhere near now without some fairly intense efforts.

Shmithecat2 · 11/06/2022 23:11

About 10 days. Put loads back on though when ds was on proper solids, hoovering up all his leftovers 😭

Suddha · 11/06/2022 23:14

Breastfeeding prevented me losing weight. My blood sugar was all over the place and I would get sick and dizzy if I didn’t eat. I had to quit breastfeeding in order to be able to reduce my food intake without getting poorly. So I couldn’t lose weight for a couple of years until I stopped breastfeeding.

user3199 · 11/06/2022 23:14

My child's 2 and I'd guess I'm a good stone more than I was pre-preg. I don't think I put on an excessive amount of weight during pregnancy, but I gained weight in the first year of motherhood. I breast fed (for 15 months in total) but that if anything led to weight gain for me as baby's feeding issues meant we were housebound for 2 months, and the constant feeding meant little to no sleep at night so then snacking on high sugar food for energy. None of my clothes fit me properly now but I feel quite overwhelmed with how to get back to how I was.

MissCalamity · 12/06/2022 00:20

With my 1st, just over 2 years.

With my 2nd, still not got there, she turned 8 a few months ago.....😪

@Babdoc @eddiemairswife I lost my Father in Law to cancer hald way through pregnancy. He was stuck in a ward suffering from cancer and neglected because of covid. I spent an entire half day staring as his dead body because tye junior doctors didn't know how to handle the death. We found a dried pill stuck to the roof if his mouth because he couldn't reach the broken table that wouldn't move to get his water.... I ate what I wanted after that.

About four months. Ds was ebf plus I was bored in maternity leave so I went hiking with ds in a sling all that summer.
As he got heavier, I shed more weight.🙂

Migraineroundthebend · 12/06/2022 07:23

I also had covid whilst pregnant so was stuck in for a while unable to walk anywhere. Then when I was well again it was a mini big freeze and ice and snow lay for weeks.

I also had terrible SPD/PGP but thanks to covid got no help. Spent 3 months sleep the sofa. Weight pilled on.

I didn't gain much in pregnancy, it was in the first 8 weeks pp that I gained it all. Cmpa baby who screamed 16 hours a day and then had horrendous reflux for months. 7 months on I'm only starting to loose weight as I have time to eat right. I'm not too fussed about being overweight though, my only consultation is that i didn't develop a single stretch mark . So you win some and you loose some.

PathObstacles · 12/06/2022 07:37

It really is horribly tone deaf, and completely wrong, to suggest that excess weight gain in pregnancy or at any other time is either a simple matter of choice, or some kind of moral failing.

It doesn't make anyone morally superior to have had a straightforward pregnancy / birth / weight loss / life. It doesn't make anyone inferior to have some extra pounds. Ever.

OP I'm really sorry to hear about your experiences. That would have been an incredibly difficult period of time. Please don't put any pressure on yourself to look a certain way or weigh a certain amount, or let anyone else pressure you.

We all have different experiences, pressures, limitations, health issues and consequences. That's just the way life is.

You're doing great Flowers

Older child is 12 years old. I am still 3 stone heavier than pre-preg. :( [starts diet again]
